Amandayan – Explore Lijiang’s Cultural Elegance

Amandayan is a luxury heritage retreat, situated in China’s southwestern province of Yunnan. Known as the Land of Eternal Spring for its exceptionally mild climate, Yunnan is famed for limestone plateaus, snow-capped peaks and rushing rivers. Perched above Lijiang’s Old Town, Dayan Amandayan overlooks the dramatic mountainous landscape, perfect for leisurely treks and horse rides amidst its wildflower meadows and remote villages with a unique heritage and culture.

Located just above the Lijiang Old Town Amandayan boasts 35 suites. These luxurious dwelling with high pitched ceilings, intricate wooden screens and indigenous Nakhi details, pay homage to Lijiang’s fabled architecture. The impressive Amandayan Suite; measuring 440sqm, features two bedrooms and an expansive living area with beautiful views of the area. Two in-house restaurants serve Yunnan, Cantonese and Western cuisines focused on seasonal and locally grown produce.

Situated above Lijiang, Amandayan guests are well placed to explore its exotic Naxi ethnic group and Dongba Culture. In the background is Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, one of the world’s most beautiful and diverse massifs, climbed by a cable car. In between are beautiful meadows, crisscrossed by snow streams, perfect for hiking and horse riding. Back at the resort is a wellness spa, home to a 20-metre heated pool, a fully equipped gym and Pilates studio.
 


Stay Amandayan features just 35 suites, grouped in three categories; Courtyard, Deluxe and Amandayan. All suites are decorated in locally inspired designs, using local materials, with beautiful hand carved furniture. The spacious Courtyard Suites with generous living areas and expansive bathrooms are set around peaceful courtyards while Deluxe Suites are on the first floor and come with a large terrace. The impressive Amandayan Suite have two bedrooms, a large living area and beautiful views.

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at Amandayan, but there are no specific facilities available for children. However, there is an Amandayan Suite measuring 440sqm and features two bedrooms with an expansive living area and beautiful views of the area, making it an ideal option for families or larger groups.

Dine Man Yi Xuan, Amandayan’s main restaurant, specialises in Nakhi cuisine with modern accents. Try the traditional hotpot dish; a simmering pot of rich, organic chicken stock with meat and Yunnan mushrooms. In the afternoon visit the Tea House for a deliciously traditional Chinese tea experience. At the library’s lounge, enjoy cocktails as well as western and Asian cuisines with an emphasis on seasonal produce.

Relax Amandayan has a fully serviced spa offering treatments including cupping, scrubs and rubs with Aman’s essential oils. There is a gym and Pilates cum yoga pavilion, and four treatment rooms, each equipped with a steam room, shower and bathtub. Across the carved wooden walls of the spa is a 20-metre swimming pool surrounded by sun loungers and lovely manicured garden. Inside, is a private cinema with leather seats and 43 square-metre screen. There is also a library and gym.

Experience Lijiang is a famous for its ancient towns, spectacular natural scenery and Naxi culture. Amandayan offers signature private guided tours to its most important sites. Begin with a tour of Dayan, Lijiang’s old town, home to traditional artisans. Nearby villages Shuhe and Baisha, Unesco world heritage sites, which are repositories of Nakhi culture. Adventure enthusiasts can take a trek along the majestic Tiger Leaping Gorge known for its exceptional beauty.

Location Amandayan is perched on Lion Hill, a forested oasis in the heart of the town of Lijiang and offers some of the city's finest views.

When to go Overall, the temperature of Lijiang is lower than the other places in Yunnan. There is also a big temperature difference between day and night. The best time to travel Lijiang is spring and summer. If you want to experience the most beautiful scenery of Lijiang, April and May is the best time for you to arrive.
