Amanfayun in Hangzhou, is set in an exclusive traditional Chinese village, west of West Lake and surrounded by green mountains. It’s a place of stone pathways leading to shaded courtyards, quaint restaurants and peaceful abodes. Nearby are Longjing (Dragon Well) tea gardens, famed for the finest green tea in China. In this beautiful landscape lies Amanfayun, with its two stately courtyard houses dating back to the 1800s.
Amanfayun offers 42 rooms, suites and villas, mostly constructed of camphor-wood, stone floors and clay-tiled roofs, that date from the Tang dynasty. Choose from Village Rooms, Village Suites or Deluxe Suites. Several of these are duplexes and some offer private massage facilities. For extra space book Village Villas or the 2-bedroom Amanfuyan Villa with its private courtyard, dining room and lounge, perfect for families.
The Aman Spa is a peaceful sanctuary for relaxation and rejuvenation. A choice of restaurants offers local and Western cuisine. In the surrounds is the famous Linyin Si, an important Buddhist temple, an absolute must-see. Explore the tranquil West Lake, botanical gardens and vast wetland areas with rich birdlife, perfect for nature walks. Within walking distance are seven spiritual sites and a pretty stream decorated with ancient Buddhist carvings, perfect for early morning walks.
Stay Amanfayun Hangzhou offers 42 rooms, suites and villas. There are 16 Village Rooms and 9 Village Suites that offer courtyard or forest views. There are 12 Deluxe Village Suites, several of these are duplexes, overlooking the village and forest. Some offer private massage facilities. The four Village Villas have enormous space over two floors and the two-bedroom Amanfuyan Villa with private courtyard, come with a lounge, dining area and private massage room.
ChildCare Children are welcome to stay at Amanfayun Hangzhou, but there are no specific facilities available. Babysitting can be arranged, on request.
Dine Dining at Amanfayun has a new innovative approach. The resort has invited selected local restaurants to open their outlets here, offering everything from vegetarian temple cuisine to regional Hangzhou specialties. The village operated Hangzhou House offers regional delights whilst the He Cha Guan Teahouse run by Miss Pang is renowned for her Tea Ceremony skills, and who deftly shows how to release the sweet flavour of the fresh green leaves. There is also an outlet which serves Western cuisine.
Relax The Amanfayun Spa, surrounded by bamboo groves and magnolia trees is a peaceful sanctuary, at the northern end of the property. It has five structures that include the Reception and Reflexology House, the Bath House, the Fitness Centre with a fully-equipped gym, Pilates and yoga, the Finishing Salon, and the Treatment House. There is also a 20-metre heated pool that provides the perfect place to relax and enjoy the surrounding nature.
Experience The main path that leads through the Amanfayun resort is one of the pilgrimage routes to Lingyin Temple, an important Buddhist temple and one of seven Buddhist sanctuaries that encircle the resort. Founded in 326AD by the Indian saint Hui Li, there are over 300 statues etched into the limestone walls. Amanfayun also organises informative talks and presentations on topics ranging from Buddhism and Chinese art to regional cultural practices, tea rituals, traditional Chinese Medicine and other subjects.

Location Amanfayun Hangzhou, is a rural retreat in the bamboo filled mountains above the historic city of Hangzhou. Nestled into 35 acres of tea plantations, natural forest and set in a Fayun village, it provides a peaceful and luxurious hideaway from the large and crowded Hangzhou city.
Getting There Amanfayun is approximately a 50-minute drive north of Hangzhou Airport. The Hangzhou International Airport serves domestic and International flights. The airport is 17 miles (27km) from the city centre. Hangzhou is about 180 kilometres from Shanghai. A bullet train zips here from Shanghai in a smooth 50 minutes, while the new maglev train is under construction.
When to go The best time to visit Hangzhou is during the spring (March to mid-May) and Autumn (mid-September to November) when it is pleasant, dry and cool. Winter is cold at just above freezing with heavy humidity. Spring is a good time to see the peach blossom when the weather remains cool. The temperature rises in June, followed by rain that lasts until September. Temperatures range from 2°C - 8°C in January, to 25°C - 33°C in July.
