The Temple House Hotel is a unique, modern-old themed hotel, set in the heart of the vibrant city of Chengdu, Northwest China. Built on the site of a 1,000-year-old Daci Temple complex (hence the name), it reflects a fusion of traditional charm and modern elegance. The architecture takes inspiration from location in an oblique, abstract way. Guests enter an ornate 100-year-old building, leading into a verdant high-walled courtyard evoking Sichuan’s rice terraces.
Housed within two L-shaped halves separated by a verdant courtyard, The Temple House offers 142 rooms and suites. Rooms are minimalist and incorporate local materials (timber, bamboo, step stones) and architectural elements. For best views ask for the room facing the courtyard. Three restaurants offer a range of delicious cuisines; modern Chinese at Temple Café, regionally inspired Italian fare at Tivano, and the wood-lined Teahouse at Mi Xun, its day spa.
The Temple Houses’ Mi Xun Spa is set in a serene Qing-era courtyard, with access to stunning indoor swimming pool. With its menu inspired by Chinese medicine, it’s the hottest seat in the house. Gents can indulge in a glass of whisky and a wet shave or trim using Refinery products at the spa’s single-seat barbershop. The indulgence does not end here, the Temple House concierge will ensure that your private day-tour is well planned with an expert guide and cold towels at hand.
Stay The Temple House offers 100 rooms and 42 apartments, grouped in eight different types to suit every discerning traveller. The lead-in Studios range from 60 to 90 square metres and the Suites provide even more space with some coming with their own balconies and other being spread over two floors with multiple bedrooms. The incredible Penthouse located over the 11th and 12th floors enjoys the best views. All have Qing Dynasty architecture with contemporary elegance.
ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at The Temple House. Children aged 12 or below can stay in the same room with parents without additional charge. However, there are no specific facilities available for children. Babysitting services can be arranged, upon request.
Dine There are three unique restaurants at the Temple House offering varied and delicious menus. The Temple Café offers a modern twist on the pan-Asian and Western fare and is perfect for a quick bite. Jing Bar and The Teahouse both provide wonderful spaces in which to relax with a trendy laid back cocktail or a healthy light bite in holistic atmosphere. Gilded, marble-lined and romantically low lit, Tivano is the hotel’s glamorous Italian restaurant for evening meals and has a superb wine list.
Relax Set in the Temple House Hotel’s Qing Dynasty courtyard is the Mi Xun spa, a lavish 900 sqm sanctuary with a sauna, hammam and shop. The extensive spa complex with 11 suites (including VIP and couple’s suites), acts as a complete day spa in its own right with an extensive treatment menu and beautiful indoor pool. For those who like to keep fit, there is a well-equipped gymnasium.
Experience The best way to see Chengdu is to simply explore at leisure. Guests at the Temple House can walk down to Kuan Zhai Alley, a historical culture protection area known for its ancient courtyard structures. Across the Jinjiang River is the 223 AD, Wuhou Temple of Marquis. Further afield enjoy alpine peaks, waterfalls and breathtaking lakes in the Huanglong Valley. The best place to see Pandas is the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, a non-profit organisation.

Getting there From the airport the hotel is best reached by car. Located 20km away, the journey should take approximately 45 minutes. From Chengdu North Railway Station, the distance is approximately 9 km taking about 25 minutes by car. If you're travelling from Chengdu's East Railway Station, the 7 km journey should take around 15 minutes.
When to go Chengdu weather is mild and humid all year round, featuring four clear-cut seasons – long and warm spring, short and sultry summer, cool and rainy autumn, cold and foggy winter. The distinctive characteristic of Chengdu weather is foggy and humid, so there are fewer hours of sunlight per day, and the summer is hotter and the winter is colder than the temperature shows. The rainy season is usually in July and August, with occasional storms. Thus, the best time to visit Chengdu is March to June and September to November.
