The Puli Hotel & Spa, Shanghai, China - AsianGeographicalAdventures.com

The Puli Hotel & Spa is set in the heart of Shanghai that is perfect for both business and leisure purposes. Located next to JingAn Park, the hotel benefits from picturesque views of the green park, the best shopping and dining areas, as well as a Metro line under the hotel.  Set in a serene setting within the beautiful part of downtown Shanghai, it makes a perfect enclave for travellers who want to be in midst of the action but seek quiet indulgence of a luxurious resort.

The grand lobby at the Puli Hotel in Shanghai is luxuriously equipped with comfortable seating, indirect lighting and furnished with portraits by native artist Li Jing Bin. The polished black ink stone floor reminisces of the past imperial days. The contemporary sofas and Ming-style wooden armchairs are set up to form exclusive enclaves within a Long Bar-cum-reception. I sneak a view of a Chinese water garden through floor-to-ceiling windows and the truth about being an urban resort sinks in.

The Puli hotel is five minutes’ walk to subway and the transportation station to Pudong airport, making it easy for sightseeing and business. Just a few streets away are the animated, tree-lined avenues of Shanghai's French Concession (Xintiandi) which has some quirky shops and great restaurants. Within the hotel, the Anantara Spa and Wellness offers a range of ancient therapies. There is also a swimming pool and well-equipped gym.

Stay The Puli Hotel & Spa has 193 stylish rooms and 36 spacious Suites. The lead in Deluxe Room overlooks the ever-changing Shanghai skyline, while the Grand Room has views of the JingAn Park. These are designed in studio concept with an open space that can be separated with a sliding ceiling-to-floor silk partition screen. The Grand Studios are more spacious but book a Junior Suite if you want to entertain guests without giving up the privacy of the bedroom. All rooms have minimalist zen-like design with black decor and dark Oriental furniture.

ChildCare Children are welcome to stay at The Puli Hotel & Spa, but there are no specific facilities available. Babysitting can be arranged, on request.

Dine The Puli has one restaurant, Jing'An serving refined East-meets-West menu all day and a decadent Sunday brunch that overflows with delicacies. The 32-metre Long Bar offers one of Shanghai's "longest" wine and champagne selections, cocktails and refreshments throughout the day. The Garden Terrace is possibly the best place for pre/post-meal sensation as well as friends gathering.

Relax The Puli’s spa on the third floor, is run by the renowned wellness group Anantara. There are tea-themed restorative treatments, pearl wraps and herbal compress massages, performed in five small teak-lined treatment rooms. The wellness centre has a series of sliding doors that lead to jet pools, saunas, steam rooms and a gorgeous 25-metre indoor swimming pool facing the Jing An park. There is also a three-in-one Jacuzzi pool and a state-of-the-art gym.

Experience In the day, take a boat on the Huangpu River that descends from Taihu Lake and passes through Shanghai. You can admire the view of the high-rise buildings along the bank. Then spend your evening at the Long Bar or sit in the library, a cosy space with open fireplace and appreciate the Puli’s charms; design, style and comfort. It is a creative mix of Chinese and contemporary art that is pleasing to the eye, stylish in design and luxurious in comfort.

Location The Puli Hotel & Spa is set in the heart of Shanghai that is perfect for both business and leisure purposes. Located next to JingAn Park, the hotel benefits from picturesque views of the green park, the best shopping and dining areas, as well as a Metro line under the hotel.

Getting There International passengers will arrive at the Pudong International airport (PVG) served by major airline carriers. It is approximately 45 minutes by car to the city centre but the magnetic-levitation train takes less than eight minutes. If you are not staying in Pudong then it is faster and wiser to take a taxi. Domestic travellers will land at Shanghai Airport (SHA) which is about 25 minutes from the city centre on the western side of Shanghai.

When to go The best time to visit Shanghai is during March-April and September to early November. Winter is windy and chilly. July and August are unpleasantly hot and humid. September and October are ideal months but they’re also very popular times for meetings and conventions. To avoid big crowds and enjoy good weather visit late March or late October-November. Avoid the two golden weeks; 01-03 May and from 01-07 Oct when the Chinese have their long holiday.
