The Intercontinental Lijiang is a luxury heritage resort, set inside the ancient town of Lijiang, Northwest Yunnan. This is an expansive resort with an old-world charm, beautiful gardens and sensational scented Regal lily ponds, offering modern luxury in the ancient surroundings of Lijiang. The Lijiang region that most people know because of its postcard views of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain from Black Dragon Pool, not so much for its origin of plants you see in your gardens.
Housed within various wooden buildings are 270 rooms and suites. Its hard not to be impressed by its sloping tiled roofs backed with Jade Dragon Mountain shining in the background. All the houses are built in the style of Naxi people, native to this area of Yunnan. Inside a series of two storey villas (including 10 individual suite villas) surrounding the large main house, are spacious rooms, decorated with timber floors, plush bedrooms and modern facilities some with bathtubs.
Inside that main building, the Intercontinental Lijiang offers two restaurants serving locally inspired authentic Cantonese, South East Asian, Thai, Malaysian and Singaporean cuisine. The spa, with a stunning Naxi home-style location. Treatments incorporate traditional Pu'er tea and ancient Yunnan herbs in scrubs, oils and aromatherapy steams. For relaxation, there is Tea Tree Spa is located in the centre of the resort with an indoor swimming pool, the only one in Lijiang.
Amenities
Stay The Intercontinental Lijiang features 270 rooms spread over many traditional houses within the resort. All rooms including the lead-in Classic Rooms are modern in style but decorated in a traditional way with warm woods and timber beams inspired by the old town. Club rooms are located on the ground floor and have a courtyard shared by two Premier rooms. Suites have a bedroom, living area and a huge bath with enough space to dine and unwind.
ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at Intercontinental Lijiang, but there are no specific facilities available for children. Babysitting service can be arranged on request.
Dine There are two main restaurants at the Intercontinental Lijiang hotel. Located on either side of an open-air courtyard, is the 7 Colours Chinese restaurant serving a fusion of local dishes and Cantonese fair. The other is the Basil Leaf South East Asian Restaurant, which serves up Thai, Malaysian and Singaporean cuisine. During the day, the Green Tea lounge decorated with dark wood drawers and metal teapots is a great place to relax with some of Yunnan's famed Pu'er tea.
Relax Nestled in the trees around the resort, the Tea Tree Spa at the Intercontinental Lijiang has a stunning Naxi home-style design. It offers a range of treatments incorporating Tibetan medicines and traditional Pu'er tea using ancient Yunnan herbs in scrubs, oils and aromatherapy steams. Guests can also unwind in the indoor 25-metre swimming pool or make use of the fully-equipped fitness centre.
Experience The Yunnan region is famed for its natural beauty and there is plenty to explore in and around Lijiang. Begin with the Old Town of Dayan, a short walk from the Intercontinental where the impeccably rebuilt Mu Mansion, the palace of Lijiang’s ruling chieftains still dominates Dayan. The town is dominated by Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, a glorious peak that helps create one of the region’s most sublime settings. Activities include trekking to the mountain and surrounds.
Location The Lijiang Ancient Town Resort is set in extensive gardens and enjoys spectacular views of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Conveniently located for the historical town, this is a fabulous retreat from the hustle and bustle of most Chinese cities.
Getting there The nearest airport is Lijiang Sanyi which is situated 27km away from the resort. A shuttle can be arranged with the resort itself or the 30-minute journey can be taken by taxi. From Lijiang Railway Station 15km away, the resort is best reached by taxi.
When to go Overall, the temperature of Lijiang is lower than the other places in Yunnan. There is also a big temperature difference between day and night. The best time to travel Lijiang is spring and summer. If you want to experience the most beautiful scenery of Lijiang, April and May is the best time for you to arrive.
