June 01 - 1, June 01, 2025
The JW Marriott Phu Quoc is a unique experiential resort, located on the south-eastern shore of Vietnam's Phu Quoc Island. Designed by eccentric architect Bill Bensley, it is themed entirely after the fictional Lamarck University. Each pastel-coloured building is dubbed after a different area of study and even the Hotel Manager is referred to as The Dean. Yet, there are no student digs. Rooms, suites and villas are elegantly designed with high ceilings, four poster beds and roll top baths.
Amenities
Stay JW Marriott Phu Quoc features 244 rooms spread across several pastel-coloured buildings, each themed around various subjects from biology and zoology to architecture and fine arts. All are bright, airy and spacious, each featuring a private balcony. Inside, rooms are beautifully decorated with European-style furnishings with Asian touches, four-poster beds and floor-to-ceiling windows. Marble bathrooms come with spacious walk-in showers, tubs and toiletries from Aromatherapy.
ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at the JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa, but there are no specific facilities available for children. Babysitting service can be arranged, upon request.
Dine There are three restaurants at the JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort. The beachside Tempus Fugit is where you will have breakfast. The Pink Pearl with a fine dining atmosphere, offers elegantly-curated Thai cuisine in the main dining hall with six private rooms. While Red Rum offers fresh seafood paired with locally sourced Vietnam produce and quality meats with fantastic ocean views. And there is a cocktail bar dubbed as the Department of Chemistry.
Relax The JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort’s characterful Chanterelle Spa or Department of Myology has a playful Alice in Wonderland theme. Featuring lime green interiors and framed pictures of fungi covering the ceiling with female staff wearing Alice-style dresses, it offers menu of heavenly massages in eight spacious treatment rooms. Alternatively, head to a well-equipped small gym or relax in one of three swimming pools including the beautiful shell pool.
Experience In keeping with the theme, the JW Marriott Phu Quoc hotel offers a daily timetable of activities, that fall into three categories: culinary, culture, and wellbeing. Guests can take guided morning bike rides to lantern making, and further afield visit Phu Quoc National Park, where nature lovers can spot rare wildlife and plants. There are uninhabited islands, most of which are great for diving, snorkelling, kayaking and fishing available between October and April.
Location Phu Quoc island lies around 40km off the south-west coast of Vietnam, just below the southern coast of Cambodia. The JW Marriott is on the south-east coast of the island, around 30 minutes from the airport.
Getting there It is an 11-hour direct flight from London to Hanoi, or 12-hour direct flight to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. Phu Quoc can be reached by an hour-long domestic flight from Ho Chi Minh City or an hour and 55-minute domestic flight from Hanoi. The JW Marriott is approximately 30 minutes by road from the airport.
When to go Phu Quoc is warm all year round, but the driest months run from November to March, with a pleasant temperature of around 30 degrees Celsius. April and May are the hottest months of the year, with temperatures often rising to 35 degrees Celsius with high humidity. The rainy season is from June to October, and like most tropical destinations this can range from being very wet to intermittent spells of great weather.
