Delhi to Varanasi – 14 Days
This thoughtfully curated North India Heritage & Wildlife Tour blends iconic monuments, sacred traditions, and extraordinary wildlife in a single seamless journey. Begin in Delhi’s bustling markets and Mughal-era landmarks before flying to the lakeside city of Udaipur, where royal palaces and folk culture await. Continue to Jaipur to discover grand forts, vibrant bazaars, and a rural elephant sanctuary. Stay at luxurious properties, each offering a serene base from which to explore.
Northern India's cultural heart is part of the Indian subcontinent, a region renowned for its remarkable biodiversity and home to some of the world’s most celebrated wildlife destinations.
Travel deeper into Rajasthan’s countryside to experience the tranquillity of Alwar and the historic mystery of Bhangarh. Enjoy sunrise yoga, fire meditations, and boat rides on peaceful lakes. Local people play an integral role in this journey, offering authentic cultural exchanges and benefiting from sustainable tourism initiatives. Then head to Ranthambhore for thrilling tiger safaris in one of India’s top national parks. End the tour in Agra and Varanasi—where the Taj Mahal’s splendour and the spiritual rituals on the Ganges offer powerful moments of reflection. This tour combines Northern India's cultural heart with rare wildlife and meaningful local encounters, all enhanced by the expertise of our wildlife guides who ensure exceptional wildlife viewing experiences.
DELHI‘S MUGHAL LEGACY AND MARKET LIFE: Explore the contrasting worlds of Old and New Delhi. Visit Jama Masjid and Humayun’s Tomb, ride a rickshaw through Chandni Chowk, and experience the spiritual atmosphere of a Sikh langar. This cultural immersion introduces North India’s heritage through its architecture, food, and vibrant street scenes.
WILDLIFE SAFARIS IN RANTHAMBHORE NATIONAL PARK: Go on morning and afternoon jeep safaris through Ranthambhore, a renowned tiger reserve and one of India’s best sites for wildlife viewing. Spot many animals including deer, crocodiles, and possibly the elusive Bengal tiger, along with a remarkable variety of species of birds. The tour also includes visits to some of the best sites and wildlife sanctuaries in North India, offering exceptional opportunities for wildlife observation. These heritage sites showcase the region’s royal history, rich art, and architectural splendour, making them essential stops on a North India heritage tour.
SACRED RITUALS IN VARANASI AND SARNATH: Experience the spiritual heart of North India in Varanasi. Witness the Ganga aarti by boat, visit ancient temples, and walk along the ghats. A visit to Sarnath, where Buddha gave his first sermon, adds a meaningful Buddhist dimension to this cultural and spiritual journey.
The difference with the Asian Geographical is, that each of our holidays is designed with extreme precision of a mountaineering expedition.
This 14-day North India Heritage & Wildlife Tour combines iconic cities, royal palaces and exhilarating safaris with deeply spiritual experiences. From Delhi and Udaipur to Ranthambhore and Varanasi, explore forts, stay in luxury hotels and retreats, and seek India’s national animal on guided wildlife safaris. Selected departures may include India’s oldest national park, celebrated for pioneering conservation. Alongside tigers, look out for other mammals and rare species, showcasing North India’s remarkable biodiversity.
Arrive in Delhi and meet your private transfer to the hotel. Since most flights land in the evening, today is for rest and recovery. If you feel energetic, join an optional evening food walk through old city lanes. Led by a local food expert, sample kebabs, butter chicken, kulfi, and stuffed breads from hidden restaurants and food stalls. It’s a delicious way to experience the city’s authentic flavours and lively atmosphere on your first night in India, and for many, this marks their first visit to India and its vibrant culture.
The Imperial
The Oberoi New Delhi
The Imperial is an elegant blend of Victorian, colonial and Art Deco style hotel, set right in the heart of New Delhi. Built in 1931 by Bromfield, a student of Edward Lutyens, the famed British architect, this hotel exudes luxury, elegance and hospitality reminiscent of the colonial era. Its marvellous mélange of Victorian, colonial, and Art Deco styles stands out even after more than seven decades and offers each guest the magic experience of capturing a piece of history.
New Delhi’s Oberoi hotel is a newly refurbished, luxurious hotel, set in South Delhi area, overlooking the verdant golf course. The hotel holds a dear place in my heart, as it does for many city natives. During my younger days, I frequent the Oberoi’s lobby with my friends as it was the epicentre for India’s glitterati and on special occasions eat at the famous Tabela restaurant. At the time, it was one of the fanciest hotel in India but then time caught up with the old Dame.
Begin the day at Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi’s historic market. Ride a rickshaw through narrow lanes lined with shops and shrines. Visit Jama Masjid, one of India’s largest mosques, and take part in a communal meal at a Sikh temple. In the afternoon, drive through New Delhi to see India Gate, the President’s Palace, and government buildings. End your tour with visits to the striking Lotus Temple and Humayun’s Tomb, a UNESCO site that inspired the Taj Mahal’s architecture.
Meals Included: Breakfast
Enjoy a slow morning in Delhi—visit modern art galleries, walk through Lodhi Gardens, or browse vibrant local markets. In the afternoon, take a flight to Udaipur and check into your hotel by Lake Pichola. Later, take a private boat ride on the lake, watching the city glow at sunset with views of palaces and temples. In the evening, enjoy a Rajasthani folk dance show in a historic courtyard, full of colourful costumes and local music.
Meals Included: Breakfast
The Oberoi Udaivilas
The Leela Palace Udaipur
Oberoi Udaivilas is a unique luxury hotel in Udaipur, located on the banks of a beautiful Lake Pichola. Built as a royal residence on 30 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens with fountains and pavilions, Udaivilas offers a tranquil and romantic ambience against the backdrop of the Aravalli hills. Set in the city of majestic palaces and beautiful lakes, Udaipur's Oberoi Udaivilas, mirrors that luxury with its own expansive courtyards, fountains and reflecting pools.
The Leela Palace Udaipur is an opulent, modern palace hotel, set on the banks of the tranquil Lake Pichola in Udaipur, Southern Rajasthan. You arrive in James Bond style, on a boat reminiscing the 1983 classic, Octopussy and are received with a shower of rose petals. Inside, royal furnishings evoke a bygone era of grandeur including silver thrones, crystal chandeliers, and copious amounts of black and white marble that cover its lavish interiors. The theme here is clearly one of ancient romance.
Visit Udaipur’s City Palace, filled with beautiful rooms, courtyards, and history. Walk to Jagdish Temple and take in views from the Monsoon Palace. See rare cars at the Royal Vintage Car museum. Many designers visit here for inspiration, making it a shopper’s paradise full of rich colours and traditional designs.

Rajmahal Palace RAAS Jaipur
Taj Rambagh Palace in Jaipur offers its guests a taste of royal living – luxury and extravagance that was once the sole preserve of the kings. Its elegantly appointed rooms, marbled corridors and majestic gardens echo with history, and every corner has a story to tell. Once the "Jewel of Jaipur", this 19th-century Palace is now the among the most authentic palaces of India.
Rajmahal Palace RAAS Jaipur, a stunning blend of heritage and modernity, is an architectural marvel set in the heart of Jaipur, India. The palace, originally built in 1729, features a captivating blend of Mughal and British colonial styles, showcasing grand arches, intricate jali work, and expansive verandas. Enjoy a relaxed start with a stroll through Jaipur’s markets and sample some sweets or a traditional thali lunch. Head out to the countryside to see Amber Fort, an impressive fusion of Hindu and Mughal architecture. In the afternoon, visit an elephant sanctuary dedicated to the conservation of Asian elephants and supporting their protection and migration corridors. Take a guided village walk with local guides, who provide valuable insights into the culture and wildlife of the area, and meet the Meena community. Amanbagh
Amanbagh is a modern maharajah’s palace, set near the town of Alwar about two hours drive outside the fabled Indian city of Jaipur. Situated on what was once the parched corner of the Rajastani desert that served as camping grounds for royal tiger hunts, it is now a lush oasis with marble pools and surrounded by the Aravalli Hills. And yet, this modern-day palace, humbly pays homage to the traditional architecture and design that has prevailed throughout its past.
Begin with a visit to the ancient ruins of Bhangarh, a site surrounded by myths. You may also choose to join a private sunrise yoga or meditation session here. Continue on to the Neelkanth Temple, known for its carvings and calm surroundings. Later, take a gentle boat ride on Mansarover Lake. This safari-camp-cum-boutique hotel, has just 25 spacious and elegant tents dotted through the Indian jungle. Each spacious tented room is set around waterlily ponds with an outside deck for sunbathing. Vanyavilas, meaning Jungle Lodge, forms a perfect base from which to explore the Ranthambore Jungles in search of the majestic tiger.
Aman-i-Khas is a complex of regal style canvas tents, set outside the Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan and well within reach of Delhi and Agra. Surrounded by low lying forested hills and nearby lakes, this exclusive retreat has taken inspiration from both the travelling quarters of Mughal emperors and the safari chic “glamping” styles. The result is majestic luxury in the wilderness with all the comforts of a Moghul palace, a modern hotel with exclusive Aman service.
Drive to Agra, stopping at Fatehpur Sikri on the way. This former Mughal capital is filled with palaces, courtyards, and an active mosque. After exploring the red sandstone city, continue to Agra and check into your hotel. In the evening, visit the Taj Mahal at sunset. Watch as the white marble changes colours in the fading light. Later, relax in your suite with a view of the Taj lit softly under the night sky.

The Oberoi Amarvilas

Situated just half a mile from the timeless monument to love, the Taj Mahal, it is the best place to stay in Agra.
Visit the Taj Mahal at sunrise for a quieter, more intimate view. Take time to appreciate its fine details and design. After breakfast, tour the grand Agra Fort, another Mughal masterpiece. Then fly to Varanasi, India’s most sacred city. In the evening, take a private boat on the Ganges to see the aarti ceremony, where fire, chants, and incense create a powerful and spiritual scene along the riverbanks.
Meals Included: Breakfast
Taj Nadesar Palace
Taj Nadesar Palace is a luxurious new hotel in the holy Hindu city of Varanasi in India. Built in the late 18th-century by the East India Company, it was bought by the Maharaja Prabhu Narayan Singh to offer sumptuous accommodation to visiting dignitaries. After the Maharajah died, the two-storey, yellow plastered palace went into grand decay, until it was spectacularly restored by the Taj Group and converted into an intimate, boutique palace chic hotel.
Take a morning walk along the Ganges to see life at the ghats—pilgrims bathing, prayers being offered, and cremation ceremonies taking place. Visit some of Varanasi’s historic temples, then head to Sarnath, where the Buddha gave his first sermon. In the evening, you may wish to attend the aarti again, this time from the riverbanks, for a closer look at this deeply meaningful ritual.
Meals Included: Breakfast
Begin your last day with a sunrise boat ride on the Ganges. Watch the city wake up—priests lighting lamps, people bathing, and the sky glowing with soft morning light. After breakfast, enjoy a slow morning before your transfer to the airport. Your journey ends with powerful memories of India’s culture, spirituality, and warm hospitality.
This wildlife holiday was designed by experienced tour operators as an immersive journey through India’s rich tapestry of cultures, landscapes, and historical monuments, with a strong commitment to conservation efforts and responsible travel.
Inspired by the allure of iconic destinations and the desire to provide unique, authentic experiences—from culinary explorations in Delhi to spiritual awakenings in Varanasi—this itinerary weaves together the diverse threads of Indian culture, nature, and architecture.
Perfect for those interested in a comprehensive cultural experience, it combines activities, nature, culture, and wildlife, ensuring a holistic exploration of India’s multifaceted beauty.
YOUR TRIP DESIGN, PACE & FLEXIBILITY: This North India Heritage & Wildlife itinerary is fully private and built around your preferred dates, pace and comfort level, combining Delhi and Agra’s landmark heritage with the classic north Indian heartland and a strong wildlife focus in Ranthambore. We will advise the most efficient routing to balance sightseeing with realistic driving times, then refine the day-by-day with you. The pacing can be softened by adding an extra night in Agra or Jaipur, increasing safari time in Ranthambore, or reducing long days with earlier check-ins. Monument opening times, traffic and seasonal conditions can affect timings, so we build sensible buffers and confirm a practical schedule.
PRIVATE GUIDES, DRIVERS & ON-THE-GROUND SUPPORT: This is a high-end private journey with a dedicated vehicle and driver throughout, and expert local guides arranged for key city touring and heritage sites. We manage airport meet-and-greet, seamless hotel arrivals, and well-timed guided access at signature highlights such as Old and New Delhi, the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort, and Jaipur’s forts and palaces. In Ranthambore, we arrange your game drives with reputable naturalists, timing them for the best viewing conditions and coordinating permits and park entry logistics. Where local conditions affect the day—traffic, weather, park regulations—we adjust sequencing to protect the key experiences while keeping everything smooth and unhurried.
ACCOMMODATION STANDARDS & MEAL BASIS: We select premium, well-located accommodation to match your brief, combining high-comfort city hotels with a quality wildlife lodge close to the park to maximise time on safari. We prioritise service, comfort and positioning, and we confirm room category and upgrades early, particularly in peak season when inventory tightens. Breakfast is typically included, with other meals arranged around your preferences; wildlife lodges are often more inclusive due to limited nearby dining. Your final itinerary will confirm what is included each day so there are no surprises, and we will plan ahead for dietary requirements, especially in lodge settings.
FLIGHTS, VISAS, HEALTH & TRAVEL INSURANCE: This itinerary is primarily overland with private touring between regions; domestic flights are not usually required, but can be considered if they materially improve comfort or reduce longer road transfers. International flights are optional: we can arrange the trip as land-only, or include flights as a flight-inclusive package under our ATOL (where applicable). Entry requirements depend on your passport; we will guide you on typical requirements and timing, while you remain responsible for meeting visa and entry rules. Activity levels are light to moderate, with walking on uneven surfaces at heritage sites and early starts for safaris. Comprehensive travel insurance is essential, including medical cover and disruption.
COSTING, PAYMENTS, CHANGES & CANCELLATIONS: Tailor-made pricing is built from live supplier rates (accommodation, private transport, guides, safari drives and any tickets/permits), so availability and costs can change until bookings are secured. The main price drivers are seasonality, hotel/lodge category, safari allocations, and limited inventory in peak wildlife months. Some high-demand lodges and premium hotels may require advance payments to secure space; we will confirm exactly what is due and by when before taking payment. Changes after booking can trigger supplier fees or rate differences—particularly for peak-period accommodation and safari permits—so we will explain the impact before actioning changes and provide clear documentation of deadlines and terms.
