Leh

After breakfast, go for an optional birdwatching tour with a local expert. After lunch, explore Leh’s heritage with visits to the 17th century Leh Palace, Ladakh Arts & Media Organisation and the colourful local market, where you can browse Tibetan handicraft items—popular souvenirs among visitors to Leh city, including jewelry and textiles crafted in Tibet. In the late afternoon, head to the hilltop Shanti Stupa for views of the city. Enjoy a cup of butter tea while taking in the peaceful surroundings. Back to camp for dinner and relax under the stars, reflecting on your first full day of cultural immersion in the mountains of Ladakh.

Leh

Rise early to visit Thiksey Monastery and join the monks for morning prayers at sunrise. Thiksey is a great vantage point for panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. See the massive Maitreya Buddha statue and explore the peaceful surroundings. After breakfast at the camp, choose a cycling trip or meet the Oracle of Saboo, a unique spiritual experience. In the afternoon, visit Hemis Monastery, the largest Buddhist monastery in Ladakh and its most famous. Back to camp in the evening for sundowners and dinner under the open sky. This day has a mix of adventure, spirituality and local culture.

KANJI

Leave Leh and drive to Kanji, stopping at Alchi and Lamayuru monasteries. Alchi’s frescoes and wood carvings show a different style of Ladakhi art, while Lamayuru’s setting and murals speak of its importance on the old Silk Route. This area feels untouched and quiet, time to absorb the landscape and its silence. Back to the Kaafila camp by evening, where you can unwind with warm food and enjoy the night sky in this remote Himalayan setting, far from the noise of the modern world.

Full day in the mountains around Kanji. After breakfast, go for a scenic trek through valleys and gentle slopes. The route offers stunning views of nearby glaciers and towering peaks. After breakfast, leave Kanji and drive to Stok. On the way visit Likir Monastery with its 75-foot-tall Buddha statue. Take time to explore the village and experience the pastoral lifestyle of Ladakh, engaging with the local community and observing their peaceful, rural way of life. Relax at the Digar camp, a delightful oasis in the mountains. A short drive and easy walk takes you to the Kharpoche Bodhisattvas statue, an 11-foot ancient carving with Gandharan influence, unusual for Ladakh. After this visit, enjoy a picnic lunch and then back to camp. The rest of the day is yours to relax, take photos or simply sit and watch the sunset. Start the return journey to Leh with an adventurous ride crossing Khardung La, one of the world’s highest motorable roads. Enjoy the picturesque landscapes and stunning views of the Karakoram range. Back in the Leh Valley, return to Stok Palace for the last night of your journey. After days in the wilderness, the palace is a warm and familiar haven. Relax and enjoy the evening, think about all the landscapes, stories and people you met during your time in Ladakh.

DELHI - DEPARTURE
