Nepal & Bhutan Spiritual Trail

Kathmandu to Paro – 13 Days

Expedition Overview

Journey through the heart of the Himalayas on this deeply immersive cultural and spiritual experience across Nepal and Bhutan. Begin in Kathmandu, exploring sacred Hindu and Buddhist sites, royal squares, and artisan quarters that reveal Nepal’s living traditions. Venture into the tranquil jungles of Chitwan for wildlife encounters and community visits, before returning to the capital for final reflections. This leg blends spirituality, history, and nature for a well-rounded Nepalese introduction.

Continue into Bhutan, the Land of the Thunder Dragon, where spiritual life is deeply woven into everyday living. From the monasteries and museums of Thimphu to the riverside tranquillity of Punakha and the iconic cliffside Tiger’s Nest in Paro, each moment offers insight into Bhutan’s unique worldview. Whether it’s a blessing from a monk, a quiet temple ritual, or a mountain hike to a sacred site, this journey invites you to slow down, connect deeply, and find meaning amid Himalayan serenity.

Highlights

KATHMANDU VALLEYS SACRED HERITAGE: Explore the spiritual and historical treasures of Kathmandu Valley, including Durbar Square, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, and Pashupatinath. Witness daily rituals, sacred art, and centuries-old architecture where Hinduism and Buddhism coexist, offering a profound insight into Nepal’s religious harmony and living culture.

CHITWAN NATIONAL PARK & LOCAL TRADITIONS: Experience the natural and cultural diversity of Chitwan. Enjoy wildlife safaris in search of rhinos and tigers, take peaceful riverboat rides, and meet the Tharu people. This region provides a refreshing contrast to temple visits, adding depth to your spiritual journey through Nepal.

BHUTANS SPIRITUAL CAPITALS: THIMPHU & PUNAKHA: Discover Bhutan’s devotion to spiritual life in its key cities. Visit grand dzongs, sacred monasteries, and hillside nunnery retreats. Engage with monks, local astrologers, and artisans as you explore Bhutanese beliefs and customs through insightful, respectful cultural encounters.

TIGERS NEST MONASTERY HIKE IN PARO: Climb to Bhutan’s iconic Tiger’s Nest, a sacred cliffside monastery with breathtaking views. This spiritual pilgrimage offers a personal and physical challenge, surrounded by pine forests and mountain air. It's a powerful highlight that symbolises Bhutan’s blend of nature, faith, and serenity.

See master craftsmen at work making metal crafts and ceramics. The Patan Museum gives you a deep insight into Nepalese art. Discover the art of Buddhist thangka painting and shop for fine pashmina. Try local snacks, especially the sweet curd called juju dhau. For something extra special take an optional scenic flight and see Mount Everest and the Himalayas from the air.

DAY 3

Kathmandu Valley

Spend another day in the Kathmandu Valley. Return to favourite sites or discover new ones, including lesser known temples or villages. Chat with locals to learn more about their way of life and traditions. Take an optional scenic flight to see the snow capped peaks from another angle. Whether you revisit key landmarks or go off the beaten track this day gives you flexibility to deepen your understanding of Nepal’s cultural and natural heritage.

DAY 4

Chitwan National Park

Leave Kathmandu behind and head to Chitwan National Park, a lush wildlife sanctuary. Check in to a luxury lodge on the Rapti River, surrounded by greenery and birdsong. Take a boat ride down the Rapti River to see birds and possibly crocodiles. Visit Tharu villages and meet locals to learn about their traditions. Cycle through rural areas to see village life. This day combines wildlife spotting with cultural interaction and is a full and rewarding day in Nepal’s lowland jungle.

This day lets you absorb the peacefulness of the countryside and learn more about the area’s history and religion.

DAY 11

Paro

Drive back across the mountains from Punakha to Paro. En route stop for scenic views and small cultural visits. Once in Paro take a walking tour of the town centre with traditional shops and cafes.
