TAKTSANG PALPHUG MONASTERY: Trek to the famous Tiger’s Nest, perched on a cliff above Paro Valley. This sacred site reveals Bhutan’s soul through ancient artifacts and beautiful murals, with stunning views and a deep sense of devotion that is the essence of the kingdom and the Himalayas.
BUMTHANG CULTURAL HEART: Visit Bumthang, the spiritual heart of Bhutan, where monasteries meet alpine landscapes. Go to Fritz Maurer’s Swiss Farm for a unique Bhutanese-Swiss experience, then into Tang Valley for peaceful landscapes, temples and a countryside picnic full of culture and calm.
PHOBJIKHA VALLEY EXPLORATION: Get lost in the untouched beauty of Phobjikha Valley, winter home of the black-necked cranes. Visit the Gangtey Monastery and Crane Centre then hike across misty marshlands, quiet paths, traditional farmhouses and big views of Bhutan’s harmony with nature and the seasons.
PUNAKHA ARCHITECTURAL WONDERS: See the grandeur of Punakha Dzong, Bhutan’s riverside palace, where two rivers meet under the white walls. Then to Chimi Lhakang, famous for fertility blessings and a picnic by the river with a traditional archery session for a taste of real Bhutan.

Upon arrival in Paro, a charming town in Bhutan, a private car will pick you up and drop you at your hotel for some rest. In the afternoon, start your exploration with a visit to the National Museum, a cultural treasure housed in a unique fortress. Here you’ll get to experience Bhutanese culture and art. Next, visit the Drukgyel Dzong ruins, a UNESCO site symbolizing Bhutan’s victory over the Tibetans, showcasing the country’s history and resilience.
Fly to Bumthang, a region steeped in history and royalty. Experience Swiss and Bhutanese culture at Fritz Maurer’s Swiss Farm, the only producer of Bhutanese cheese and Red Panda beer. Taste honey, cheese, jam and fresh beer amidst stunning scenery. Later stroll around the town and visit the iconic Jakar Dzong with panoramic views of the Choekor Valley.
Early morning excursion to the serene Tang Valley with farmhouses and forested mountains. Visit the mystical Burning Lake in the river gorge, a sacred site. Explore Pemacholing Nunnery, a monastic school for nuns of all ages. Hike along the river and have a peaceful picnic lunch. Visit the historic Ogyen Chholing manor, now a museum preserving Bhutanese heritage. Evening at the lodge, perhaps a spa treatment.
Today’s adventure takes you to the beautiful Ura Valley, Bhutan’s highest valley with lush meadows and terraced fields. Wander around the valley and see locals in traditional dress. Picnic lunch and then downhill bicycle ride to town. Visit Bumthang’s famous yathra handicraft, a handwoven woollen textile at a local cooperative. Bike along the tranquil trails and explore more of Bumthang.
Drive to Gangtey (5 hours) through Bhutan’s scenic landscapes. En route visit Trongsa town and the majestic Trongsa Dzong. Visit the Trongsa Museum of Monarchy, a century of royal history. Upon arrival in Gangtey, check into your luxury lodge and relax.
Explore the serene Phobjikha Valley in Gangtey, home to the black-necked cranes. In winter visit the Crane Centre to learn about these auspicious birds. Visit the ancient Gangtey Monastery, an architectural wonder with valley views. Hike through the valley, a unique marshland and open terrain, away from the crowds.
Drive to Punakha, Bhutan’s former capital, famous for its majestic dzong at the confluence of two rivers. After admiring this architectural wonder, hike to Chimi Lhakang, crossing paddy fields. This unique temple associated with fertility was built by a yogi and has legends of a flaming thunderbolt and a dog demon.
Hike to the ornate Khamsum Yuley Monastery, a decade in the making. Picnic lunch by the river and try archery, Bhutan’s national sport. Afternoon rafting in the river with varying levels of difficulty amidst stunning scenery.
Drive to Thimphu via the picturesque Dochula Pass and stop for tea and 108 stupas. Thimphu, Bhutan’s largest and most unique capital has no traffic lights and plenty of museums and monasteries. Visit the administrative Dzong and create your own stamp at the post office for a souvenir.
Spend another day in Thimphu, exploring Bhutanese culture from traditional arts to textiles and medicine. Visit the Motithang Takin Preserve to see the takin, Bhutan’s national animal. Meet an ethno-historian for tea or lunch and discuss Bhutan with her.
Return to Paro and trek to Taktsang Palphug Monastery, the Tiger’s Nest. Perched on a cliff this monastery is a repository of sacred art and relics. The trek has panoramic views of the Paro Valley. After the hike relax at the lodge, perhaps a hot stone bath.
Enjoy your last day in Bhutan with a cup of butter tea and a mountain walk. When ready a private transfer will take you to the airport and your journey will conclude.
