Group Tour
Paro to Paro – 11 Days
Bhutan is a rare balance of living Buddhism, intact Himalayan landscapes and village life that still moves to a traditional rhythm. This small-group journey begins in Paro and Thimphu, where museums, craft schools and markets give clear context to Bhutanese culture, before crossing Dochu-la into Punakha’s warmer valley for dzongs, riverside walks and quiet hilltop chortens.
From there, travel deeper into central Bhutan, stopping at historic Trongsa and continuing to Bumthang, the spiritual heartland of temples, monasteries and rural communities. A short domestic flight returns you to Paro for the iconic Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) hike, a fitting finale above the valley. Throughout, Asian Geographical’s expert local guides bring the stories behind each place to life, while meticulous planning, comfortable accommodation and high-standard transport ensure the pace stays steady, sociable and rewarding for a small group.
EXPLORE BHUTAN’S REMOTE VALLEYS
Travel beyond the usual path into the untouched beauty of Gangtey, Bumthang, Tang Valley, and the scenic Choekor Valley. Journey through lush pine forests, the tranquil Haa Valley, and the picturesque Thimphu Valley, each offering unique glimpses into authentic rural life. These hidden regions are surrounded by dramatic mountain landscapes, open marshlands, and peaceful farmland — ideal for nature lovers and travellers seeking cultural depth away from crowds.
DISCOVER BHUTANESE CULTURE & TRADITION
Visit historic dzongs, working monasteries, and vibrant village farmhouses to gain insight into Bhutan’s living heritage. From cheese-making and textile weaving to sacred pilgrimage sites, this journey reveals the country’s deep-rooted traditions and the strong community spirit that defines life in Bhutan’s remote cultural heartlands. Enjoy the opportunity to witness traditional dances at local festivals and savor authentic Bhutanese cuisine throughout your trip.
TIGER’S NEST MONASTERY TREK
End your journey with a guided hike to Bhutan’s most iconic site — the iconic Tiger's Nest Monastery, also known as Taktsang Monastery. Perched dramatically on a cliff above Paro Valley, this revered pilgrimage site is adorned with colorful prayer flags and offers a spiritual atmosphere with panoramic views, marking a powerful and reflective finale to your cultural adventure. Enjoy a memorable picnic lunch with breathtaking views of Paro Valley or at a nearby cafeteria after your trek.
LUXURY & COMFORT IN THE COUNTRYSIDE
Stay in boutique lodges and heritage-style resorts that offer warmth and comfort in scenic settings. Whether overlooking dzongs or nestled in highland valleys, your accommodation ensures a restful experience, with thoughtful service, Bhutanese hospitality, and stunning views throughout the entire journey. The capital city of Thimphu is a key stop, offering cultural and urban experiences as part of your itinerary.
The difference with the Asian Geographical is, that each of our holidays is designed with extreme precision of a mountaineering expedition.
A small-group journey through Bhutan’s valleys and spiritual heartland, blending museums, craft traditions and living Buddhism with warm river valleys and quiet hilltop chortens. Travel via Trongsa to Bumthang’s temples and rural communities, then fly back to Paro for the iconic Tiger’s Nest hike—expert guided throughout.
Transfer to Thimphu Valley (Drive 60kms/ 1hr). On a clear day, your flight into Paro delivers superb Himalayan views before a dramatic descent into the valley. After landing, complete immigration formalities with your Visa Approval Letter and passport, then meet your Asian Geographical guide, who will accompany the group throughout Bhutan. Travel by comfortable private vehicle to Thimphu, Bhutan’s lively capital where tradition and modern life sit side by side. Check in to your hotel and take time to settle in. Later, visit the Buddha Dordenma, a vast seated Buddha overlooking the valley, with wide, uninterrupted views across Thimphu.
Meals Included: Dinner
Spend the day discovering Thimphu with your expert guide, keeping a relaxed pace and time for photographs. Begin at Zorig Chosum (the painting school) to see students training in Bhutan’s 13 traditional arts, from drawing and painting to carving and embroidery. Continue to the Takin Preserve to observe Bhutan’s national animal and hear the folklore behind it. At the National Textile Museum, explore the craft of Bhutanese weaving, including kiras, ghos and ceremonial dress, with clear context on patterns and regional styles. Evening is free, or—if open—visit the weekend market for local produce, crafts and people-watching.
Meals Included: Breakfast
Drive 70 km/3hrs. After breakfast, drive from Thimphu towards Punakha, crossing the Dochu-la Pass (3,088m/10,130ft). Prayer flags and 108 chortens mark the ridge, and on clear days the eastern Himalayas appear in full sweep. Pause for a quiet meditation experience in a cave near the pass, set above the mountains for a moment of stillness. Descend into Punakha’s warmer, subtropical valley—Bhutan’s former capital until 1955. On arrival, walk gently through villages and paddy fields to Chhimi Lhakhang, dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kuenley (the “Divine Madman”). Later, visit Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Nunnery, home to a welcoming community of nuns.
Meals Included: Breakfast
This morning, set out on a guided hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, positioned high above the Punakha Valley. Built by the Queen Mother to promote harmony and ward off negative forces, it is notable for its intricate design, golden spire and detailed wall patterns. Return and continue to Punakha Dzong, dramatically located at the confluence of the Pho Chu (male) and Mo Chu (female) rivers. Your guide will share the dzong’s history, restoration story and architectural features as you explore its courtyards and halls. Later, cross the Punakha Suspension Bridge, draped with prayer flags and ideal for photography and bird watching. The remainder of the day is at leisure.
Meals Included: Breakfast
Drive 75km/ 3hrs. Travel onward to the Phobjikha Valley, a wide glacial basin known for open landscapes, forested slopes and a calm rural rhythm. In winter (late October to February), the valley becomes an important habitat for endangered black-necked cranes migrating from Tibet. Visit Gangtey Monastery, a revered 17th-century complex that overlooks the valley and remains central to local spiritual life. Afterwards, take a gentle walk through the surrounding village to observe traditional farmhouses, fields and everyday Bhutanese life. Later, enjoy the Gangtey Nature Trail, a beginner-friendly 5 km walk (around two hours) through pine forests and farmlands, with frequent viewpoints across the valley. Return to your hotel for a restful evening.
Meals Included: Breakfast
Drive 170km/ 5-6hrs. After breakfast, travel east towards Bumthang through changing mountain scenery, with regular comfort stops. En route, visit Trongsa, often called the “Gateway to Eastern Bhutan”, and explore impressive Trongsa Dzong, the country’s largest fortress-monastery. Built in 1647, its layered courtyards, chapels and woodwork reveal how Bhutan’s spiritual and administrative life once merged in one stronghold. Walk through the Ta Dzong museum within the complex for royal history, religious artefacts and objects linked to the Wangchuck dynasty. Continue to Bumthang, arriving late afternoon. Check in, then enjoy a quiet evening to rest and acclimatise.
Meals Included: Breakfast
Today focuses on Bumthang’s temples, villages and living traditions, guided at an unhurried pace. Begin at Jambay Lhakhang, a 7th-century temple linked to King Songtsen Gampo and among Bhutan’s most important early Buddhist sites. Continue to Tamshing Monastery, founded by Pema Lingpa in 1501, noted for sacred relics and historic murals that still frame daily monastic practice. Visit Wangdichholing Palace to understand the region’s former governance and its distinctive Bhutanese architecture. Later, take a gentle walk around Jakar town and nearby fields, with time to browse small shops, meet artisans and observe rural life before returning to your hotel for rest.
Meals Included: Breakfast
Drive into the quieter Tang Valley, a less-visited part of Bumthang known for unspoilt landscapes and traditional hamlets. Stop at Ogyen Choling Heritage House, an ancestral estate with a well-curated museum that recreates noble household life from the last century. Your guide will walk you through original rooms, household objects and textiles, offering context on how families lived, worked and practised faith in this remote valley. Visit the adjacent Tsugh Lhakhang with its temples, statues and paintings, then spend time outdoors for photographs and a short village stroll if conditions allow. Return to Bumthang by late afternoon, with the evening free for relaxation.
Meals Included: Breakfast
Domestic flight 30Minutes. Fly from Bumthang to Paro this morning, enjoying aerial views of Bhutan’s valleys before landing in Paro. After check-in, begin sightseeing with the National Museum, housed in the historic Ta Dzong watchtower above Paro Dzong. The collections provide a clear introduction to Bhutanese art, arms, textiles, stamps and cultural heritage, with helpful narrative on the kingdom’s evolution. Later, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most revered temples, originally built in the 7th century and expanded with a second temple in the same style. The recall of Jambay Lhakhang links today neatly to Bumthang’s spiritual story.
Meals Included: Breakfast
Total Taktsang Hike Time 4-5 hrs. This morning, tackle Bhutan’s iconic Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), dramatically set on a cliff face above the Paro Valley. The trail climbs steadily through pine forest with viewpoints along the way; your guide will pace the walk with breaks for water, photographs and recovery. Taktsang is associated with Guru Rinpoche, who is believed to have meditated here after arriving on the back of a tigress, making it one of Bhutan’s most meaningful pilgrimage sites. After visiting the monastery, descend and return to Paro. The afternoon is free, or spend time browsing Paro’s craft market and small shops for textiles and handicrafts.
Meals Included: Breakfast
After breakfast, transfer to Paro airport for your onward flight. Your guide will assist with timing and check-in formalities, ensuring a smooth departure. Depending on flight schedules, there may be time for a final view across the valley before leaving Bhutan.
Meals Included: Breakfast
Bhutan Hidden Valley Tour was designed for travellers who want Bhutan to unfold in layers, not in a rush. Our CEO’s Trans-Himalayan Expedition reinforced a simple truth: the most meaningful journeys are shaped by rhythm—time to watch, listen, and let place reveal itself. This tour follows that principle, pairing signature moments with quieter valley discoveries that most itineraries skim past.
We built the route as a narrative road journey, where each change in altitude and landscape signals a shift in culture. High passes, river confluences and fortress towns are not treated as isolated “sights”, but as chapters that explain how Bhutan’s spiritual life, monarchy and community traditions developed over time. The pacing is deliberate, with space for markets, crafts, and village encounters to feel natural rather than staged.
The finale returns to Paro for Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest), chosen not simply as an icon, but as a closing note that brings Bhutan’s devotion and mountain drama into one unforgettable view—expert guided, coherent, and quietly powerful.
Travel in a genuinely small group, led by Asian Geographical’s expert local guides. Expect clear briefings and personal attention, cultural context, and a calm, well-managed pace that suits varied abilities. Days are structured but not rushed, with time for photos, tea stops, and moments of quiet in monasteries and valleys.
Road travel is a key part of Bhutan, with winding mountain routes and changing altitudes. Journeys are broken with scenic stops and visits en route, including Dochu-la and Trongsa. Transport is arranged in comfortable private vehicles, and your guide manages timing, check-ins, and practicalities to keep days smooth each day.
Activities combine gentle walks with one standout hike: Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest), typically 4–5 hours return. Most other days involve short village strolls, dzong and museum visits, and optional market time. A moderate fitness level helps, but the group will walk at a steady, supported rhythm on mountain trails as needed.
Accommodation is comfortable and well-located, with breakfasts included and opportunities to sample Bhutanese cooking. Expect modest evening options in smaller towns, and early starts on travel days. Weather can shift quickly in the mountains, so programmes may adjust for safety. Pack layers, rain protection, and good footwear for day walks.
A small-group Bhutan trek linking Tiger’s Nest with a high ridge traverse from Paro to Thimphu. Walk through alpine forests, yak pastures and high lakes, camping with a dedicated crew and expert guiding. Descend via Phajoding, then unwind with cultural touring in Thimphu and Punakha before returning to Paro.
