Caucasus Discovery Expedition

Baku to Yerevan – 13 days

Expedition Overview

This 13-day journey explores Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia, three countries that sit at the crossroads of Europe and Asia and reveal the South Caucasus in all its variety. Begin in Baku, where contemporary architecture rises beside the medieval Old City, then travel into the landscapes and heritage of Gobustan and onwards to Sheki, a Silk Road jewel known for ornate palaces and enduring craft traditions. Crossing into Georgia, discover Tbilisi’s characterful neighbourhoods, the rock-hewn cave town of Uplistsikhe, and the sweeping Georgian Military Highway to Kazbegi, where the Greater Caucasus delivers its most dramatic mountain scenery.

In Armenia, delve into a living spiritual legacy through ancient monasteries and UNESCO-listed sites, balancing culture with unhurried natural beauty. Spend time in Yerevan, the “Pink City”, pause by the tranquil shores of Lake Sevan, and join a traditional lavash-making experience for a taste of everyday heritage. Throughout, expect genuine hospitality, home-cooked flavours, and meaningful encounters with local artisans. Designed for curious travellers, the itinerary blends cultural discovery with active moments such as hikes and light adventure, offering a richly immersive, multi-country Caucasus holiday.

Highlights

BAKU & GOBUSTANS ANCIENT ART: Contrast Baku’s UNESCO-listed Old City with the city’s bold modern skyline, then take an evening stroll along the Caspian boulevard as the lights come up. Beyond the capital, explore Gobustan’s prehistoric petroglyphs and lunar-like landscapes. Nearby mud volcanoes add a striking natural spectacle to this archaeology-rich corner of Azerbaijan.

SHEKI & THE SILK ROAD LEGACY: Discover Sheki, a storied Silk Road town framed by green foothills and historic caravan routes. Visit the ornate Sheki Khan’s Palace, then wander cobbled streets past caravanserais and artisan workshops. Join a Shebeke stained-glass demonstration, sample regional flavours, and learn about local wine and culinary traditions that still shape everyday life.

GEORGIAS MOUNTAINS & MONASTERIES: Follow the Georgian Military Highway into the Greater Caucasus, pausing at Ananuri’s fortress walls before reaching Kazbegi for the iconic Gergeti Trinity Church. Enjoy scenic hikes and high-mountain viewpoints, then explore Georgia’s cave towns and sacred sites in Mtskheta. Expect sweeping panoramas, living Christian heritage, and rewarding outdoor moments.

ARMENIAS CULTURE & SPIRITUAL SITES: Trace Armenia’s profound Christian legacy at monasteries such as Geghard and Haghpat, set amid dramatic gorges and wooded hills. In Yerevan, explore key landmarks including the Genocide Memorial, then unwind beside Lake Sevan and the forests of Dilijan. Round it out with village hospitality, traditional cuisine, and hands-on cultural encounters.
