Azerbaijan Heritage Experience

Baku to Baku – 10 Days

Expedition Overview

Azerbaijan is a mix of ancient and modern, set in stunning natural beauty. As a country uniquely positioned at the crossroads of East and West, Azerbaijan blends influences from both Europe and Asia. Known as the 'Land of Fire', this land is famous for its natural resources and fiery landscapes. This nation boasts a rich history and diverse cultural heritage. From the streets of Baku to the landscapes of Lankaran, this is a journey through time. The tour starts in Baku where historic landmarks like the Maiden Tower and Shirvanshah’s Palace share the skyline with modern buildings. This city is the best example of Azerbaijan’s ability to combine its rich past with modern ambitions.

Going beyond Baku the itinerary includes Sheki’s silk trade heritage, Lahij’s artisanal excellence and Lankaran’s tea plantations. Azerbaijan tours offer travelers the chance to experience the country's diverse cities, landscapes, and traditions. Highlights are exploring the ancient petroglyphs in Gobustan and experiencing Azerbaijani hospitality through local crafts and cuisine. Each destination on the tour is carefully chosen to give an immersive experience of Azerbaijan’s diverse cultural landscape and its people’s traditions.

Highlights

SHEKIS SILK ROAD: Sheki was a Silk Road gem, surrounded by the Caucasus Mountains. Visit the Palace of Sheki Khans with its stunning shebeke windows and the historic caravanserai where ancient traders rested. Sheki shows off its cultural heritage through architecture, craft and mountain magic. This itinerary highlights the diversity of cities across Azerbaijan, each offering unique urban experiences.

GANJA CULTURE: Wander Ganja’s streets and discover centuries of Azerbaijani identity. From the 17th century Shah Abbas Mosque to the quirky Bottle House, the city blends history with creativity. Visit the tomb of Nizami Ganjavi, a famous poet whose legacy still shapes Azerbaijani literature and Ganja’s role in national culture. Exploring Ganja alongside other cities in Azerbaijan showcases the country’s rich urban diversity.

BAKU EXPLORATION: Step into UNESCO-listed Old Baku, Icheri Sheher, the key historic district of the capital. Wander medieval alleys, mosques, caravanserais and see the Maiden Tower and Shirvanshah’s Palace. This UNESCO-listed site is a window into Azerbaijan’s layered history, where Islamic architecture meets Persian influence and urban life by the Caspian Sea.

LANKARAN NATURE AND CULTURE: Travel to Lankaran, a green coastal region near the Iranian border. Enjoy a scenic drive through picturesque villages and natural landscapes en route to Lankaran. Meet the Talysh people, learn their customs and visit tea plantations. Taste local tea and see the methane-rich Yanar Bulag spring, where natural gas bubbles to the surface. This subtropical paradise is Azerbaijan’s ecological and cultural treasure in one, shaped by the country’s abundant natural resources such as oil and natural gas, which have influenced the region’s development.
