Georgia Highlands Explorer

Tbilisi to Tbilisi – 10 Days

The Georgia Highlands Explorer is a bespoke private journey revealing Georgia’s most compelling cultural and natural treasures. Set at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia, Georgia has deep historical ties to Europe and a distinctive identity shaped by trade routes, empires and faith. Begin in Tbilisi, where private touring brings the capital’s contrasts to life: atmospheric Old Town lanes, landmark churches, hilltop fortresses and contemporary design, all woven into a walkable riverside city.

From here, the route moves into wine country and the highlands. Enjoy a private tasting in Kakheti, home to Georgia’s ancient qvevri winemaking tradition, then explore Mtskheta and its UNESCO heritage, including Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. Continue to the rock-cut cities of Uplistsikhe and Vardzia, and the fortresses of Khertvisi and Ananuri, before ending with three nights in Kazbegi National Park, framed by the dramatic Caucasus Mountains.

Highlights

TBILISIS OLD TOWN CHARMS: Discover the layered history of Tbilisi as you wander cobbled lanes, colourful balconies and hilltop viewpoints. Visit Narikala Fortress and the Abanotubani sulphur baths, with time for cafés, galleries and local flavour. Expect steps, uneven surfaces and gentle inclines in the Old Town. Tbilisi blends Eastern flair with European elegance.

KAKHETI WINE COUNTRY DISCOVERY: Enjoy exclusive tastings in Kakheti, Georgia’s premier wine region. Visit family estates to learn qvevri winemaking, walk vineyard landscapes, and meet passionate winemakers working with indigenous grapes. Explore Tsinandali Estate, where noble history, gardens and cellars come together. This is a memorable immersion in Georgia’s ancient viticultural tradition and hospitality.

SPIRITUAL SITES OF MTSKHETA: Explore Mtskheta, Georgia’s ancient capital and a UNESCO World Heritage centre of early Christianity. Visit Jvari Monastery for panoramic views over the Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers, then step inside Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, one of the country’s most sacred churches. These landmark sites reveal Georgia’s spiritual heritage through architecture, legend and living tradition.

KAZBEGIS ALPINE MAJESTY: Travel the Georgian Military Highway into Kazbegi National Park, where the Caucasus Mountains rise dramatically above Stepantsminda. Visit Gergeti Trinity Church beneath Mount Kazbek and explore alpine villages such as Juta. Choose gentle hikes, scenic drives or relaxed mountain time. Kazbegi delivers Georgia’s most powerful highland scenery and atmosphere.

The story

What inspired us to design the Georgia Wine & Highlands Explorer was Georgia’s rare ability to blend centuries-old winemaking traditions with breathtaking landscapes, deep cultural roots and historic landmarks. Tracing parts of the ancient Silk Road, the route includes UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Mtskheta and Vardzia, connecting travellers with the spirit of the Caucasus.

Georgia’s wine culture is not just about tasting, but about sharing stories. From traditional qvevri methods in Kakheti to the historic Tsinandali Estate and Chateau Mukhrani, we wanted guests to experience wine as a living tradition. Pair this with the dramatic peaks of Kazbegi National Park, the sacred Gergeti Trinity Church, and the restorative calm of Borjomi, and the journey becomes far more than a tour.

Designed as a premium private journey, it brings together warm Georgian hospitality, vineyard encounters, and highland discovery, with the option to extend towards the Black Sea for a coastal finale.

What To Expect

Enjoy a smooth, enriching journey through Georgia with private guiding and a flexible pace. Your local expert will tailor daily touring to your interests, balancing cultural landmarks, wine heritage and mountain scenery with unhurried time to absorb each place.
