DAY 1

Baku

Arrive in Baku, the lively capital of Azerbaijan on the Caspian Sea. You’ll be welcomed by your guide and taken by private transfer to your hotel. Once you’ve checked in, take the rest of the day to relax and get used to the city’s coastal climate. Whether you rest or take a short stroll nearby, today is all about settling in comfortably before the start of your journey. Baku’s modern skyline and sea breeze offer the perfect introduction to a city full of history, culture, and exciting experiences still to come.

DAY 2

Baku

Start your day exploring Icheri Cheher, Baku’s Old City and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk its ancient cobbled lanes lined with mosques, caravanserais, and the famous Maiden Tower. Visit the stunning Shirvanshah’s Palace to understand more of Baku’s royal past. After lunch, head to the Azerbaijani Carpet Museum, where colourful traditions are woven into every display. Later, admire the flowing curves of the Heydar Aliyev Centre, a modern architectural landmark designed by Zaha Hadid. This mix of ancient heritage and bold design perfectly reflects the city’s unique spirit.

DAY 3

Baku

Venture north to Red Town, home to one of the world’s oldest Jewish communities. Visit its synagogue and local museum to learn about this fascinating cultural heritage. Continue the journey to Khinaliq, one of Europe’s highest villages, sitting at 2,300 metres in the Caucasus Mountains. Surrounded by alpine views, the village preserves ancient customs and ways of life. Stroll through the settlement, meet locals, and see historical remnants from past civilisations. After this unforgettable mountain experience, return to Baku for a well-earned evening of rest.

DAY 4

Lankaran

Leave Baku and travel towards Lankaran, close to the Iranian border. On the way, visit Gobustan to see ancient rock carvings and rare mud volcanoes. Then explore Shirvan National Park, where you might spot goitered gazelles roaming across open plains. Reach Lankaran by evening and check into your hotel. Set between forests and the sea, the town has a gentle, subtropical feel. Enjoy a relaxed evening surrounded by nature, getting ready to explore the southern region’s unique character in the coming days.

DAY 5

Lankaran

Discover Lankaran’s fascinating past and rich traditions. Visit the local museum to learn about the city’s history, then see Zindan Tower, known for being part of Joseph Stalin’s escape story. Spend time with the Singing Grandmas, local women who perform folk songs while serving homegrown tea. Later, take part in a hands-on lavangi cooking class, preparing stuffed chicken in true regional style. Share a homemade meal with your hosts and enjoy the warmth of southern Azerbaijani hospitality in a setting that brings people and stories together.

DAY 6

Lankaran

Head south to Astara to visit Yanar Bulag, a spring where the water can be set alight due to its natural methane content. Wander through the town before travelling to Hirkan National Park. This lush forest was once home to the Caspian tiger and now shelters rare wildlife including Persian leopards. Enjoy the peaceful walking trails and stop for a lakeside picnic. The scenery here is truly untouched and serene. After a day in nature, return to Lankaran for a peaceful evening.

DAY 7

Sheki

Set out early for Sheki, stopping in Shamakhi along the way. Visit the Juma Mosque, rebuilt several times over centuries, and the Seven Domes royal cemetery. Pause for a local experience with a family who will show you how they make traditional butter and yoghurt – with a chance to taste both. Continue through rolling countryside to Sheki, arriving by late afternoon. Dinner at a local restaurant is a perfect chance to try more regional dishes while enjoying traditional music in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

DAY 8

Sheki

Start your day at the lively Sheki Bazaar before visiting the stunning Palace of Sheki Khans, famous for its painted interiors and stained-glass windows. Explore the old caravanserai, once a stop for traders and now part hotel. Then travel to Kish village to see the ancient Caucasian Albanian church, filled with local legends. Later, visit a local family making Sheki halva, a sweet specialty of the region. Enjoy a tasting session and learn how this dessert has become a symbol of Sheki’s culinary heritage.

DAY 9

Baku

Drive back to Baku with stops along the way. In Lahij, wander cobbled streets filled with artisan workshops creating copperware, carpets, and pottery. Next, visit Basqal, where silk scarves called kelagayi are made. Try your hand at making one in a local workshop. Before arriving in Baku, stop at Maraza to see the Diri Baba Mausoleum, a 15th-century tomb built into a cliffside. Its unique design and peaceful setting make it a fascinating final stop on your return to the capital.

DAY 10

Baku

Explore the Absheron Peninsula, starting with Ateshgah Fire Temple, once used by Zoroastrian fire worshippers. Nearby is Yanar Dag, a hillside where natural flames burn continuously. Return to Baku and visit Villa Petrolea, once home to the Nobel brothers, key figures in the country’s oil industry. Their legacy helped shape modern Baku. This day contrasts spiritual heritage with industrial history, showing how ancient beliefs and modern energy have shaped the identity of Azerbaijan’s capital.

DAY 11

Nakhchivan

Fly to Nakhchivan, a remote and intriguing part of Azerbaijan. In Nakhchivan City, visit Noah’s Mausoleum, the 18th-century Khan’s Palace, and various mosques reflecting Islamic architecture. Walk through Soviet-era streets and visit the Carpet Museum. Travel to Garabaghlar village, home to a ruined 12th-century monument from a once-flourishing town. End your day inside Duzdag Salt Cave, a former mine now used for breathing therapy. This underground experience offers insight into local health traditions and unique geology.

DAY 12

Nakhchivan

Journey across Nakhchivan’s semi-desert landscapes. Start at Daridagh spring, whose waters are believed to aid digestion and general health. Visit the quiet town of Ordubad, known for its unique layout with leafy neighbourhoods and elegant houses. See the Djuma Mosque and enjoy the town’s peaceful charm. Later, reach Ashabi-Kahf, a large cave linked to an Islamic tale about the ‘Seven Sleepers’. This site draws pilgrims and curious travellers alike and offers spiritual depth alongside striking natural beauty.

Fly back to Baku for a final day at leisure. Choose how to spend your time – perhaps unwind in a traditional hammam, sip tea with locals, or visit boutique galleries and stylish cafés. If you prefer something active, take a walk along Baku Boulevard, a seaside promenade perfect for relaxing and people-watching. Use this time to reflect on your journey across Azerbaijan, full of contrasts, culture, and natural beauty. Tonight is your last evening to savour the energy of the capital.

DAY 14

Baku - DEPARTURE

Enjoy a slow start to your morning, whether over breakfast or one last walk in the city. When ready, a private car will take you to the airport for your onward flight. Leave with wonderful memories of Azerbaijan – from ancient ruins and misty mountains to warm welcomes and coastal cities – and the sense that you've explored a country rich in culture, history, and hospitality.

The story

Inspired by Azerbaijan's hidden gems, our "Azerbaijan's Cultural Odyssey" tour was born. It wasn't just the destinations, but the allure of experiences, and a desire to weave a narrative through the country's diverse tapestry.

We wanted to connect travellers not just to places, but to the heartbeats of the communities.
