Georgia Highlands Hiking

Tbilisi to Tbilisi – 13 Days

This 13-day Georgia Highlands Hiking in the Caucasus Mountains itinerary blends soft adventure with cultural discovery across Georgia’s most scenic regions. Begin in Tbilisi, then travel to UNESCO-listed Mtskheta before heading into the Greater Caucasus for rewarding hikes in Truso Valley, Juta and Stepantsminda (Kazbegi). Walk beneath towering peaks and past medieval churches, with optional higher ascents for those seeking a more challenging Georgian Caucasus climbing experience. The pace is designed for confident walkers, with flexible routes and expert local guiding throughout.

Continue west into Svaneti, a dramatic highland landscape of alpine trails, glacial valleys and ancient stone towers. Stay in traditional guesthouses, meet local artisans, and hike to highlights such as Koruldi Lakes and the wild mountain scenery around Ushguli. Cultural depth is woven in, from the cave city of Uplistsikhe to time in Kakheti wine country, where you can explore traditional winemaking and sample regional vintages. Expect authentic Georgian meals, traditional feasts and optional cooking classes, creating an immersive, well-paced hiking tour without extreme trekking demands.

DAY 13

TBILISI - DEPARTURE

Spend a lazy morning in Tbilisi. Have breakfast, take a stroll through the city or do some shopping. When you’re ready your private driver will take you to the airport for your flight home. Leave Georgia with the memories of the mountains, villages, hospitality and the Caucasus.

The story

We designed this tour to reveal Georgia in full contrast: the layered heritage of Tbilisi and Mtskheta, followed by the raw, high-altitude drama of the Caucasus Mountains. The inspiration was to create a walking-led journey where history is not confined to museums, but encountered in streets, churches, monasteries and mountain communities.

The route links Georgia’s defining landscapes and traditions: alpine valleys, remote villages and medieval towers in Svaneti, as well as ancient sites such as Uplistsikhe. Staying in family-run guesthouses is central to the concept, pairing scenic trails with genuine cultural exchange, local food and the warmth of Georgian hospitality. Each day was chosen to balance soft hiking with meaningful context, so travellers understand the people and places they walk through.

This itinerary suits travellers who value culture, outdoor activity and nature without extreme trekking. With varied altitudes and seasonal landscapes, Georgia offers strong hiking conditions across much of the year, making it an ideal destination for a well-paced blend of trails and heritage.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

YOUR TRIP DESIGN, PACE & FLEXIBILITY: Tailor-made holidays are built around your priorities: dates, pace, comfort level, and interests. We’ll propose a routing that balances travel time with meaningful experiences, then refine it with you. Unlike fixed group departures, timings can be adjusted—later starts, extra rest days, or more time in one place—provided it remains practical for local logistics. In some destinations, weather, seasonal access, local festivals, and road conditions can affect plans; we design with sensible buffers and realistic driving times. Your final itinerary will confirm what is pre-booked and what is left open for spontaneity, so you know where you have flexibility.

PRIVATE GUIDES, DRIVERS & ON-THE-GROUND SUPPORT: Most tailor-made trips include private transfers and a dedicated driver, with private local guides in key cities or regions. This gives you privacy, efficiency, and the ability to personalise visits on the day. In remote areas, additional support may be used—local spot guides, porters, boat crews, or trekking staff—depending on the programme. You’ll receive clear joining instructions, contact details, and escalation support. If you need assistance during travel (flight delays, lost luggage, route changes), we provide practical help through our local partners and your assigned point of contact.

ACCOMMODATION STANDARDS & MEAL BASIS: We select accommodation to match your brief—boutique, heritage, wilderness lodges, high-comfort camps, or best-available local options where choices are limited. Room types (double/twin/single), bed preferences, and family configurations should be confirmed early, especially in peak seasons. Meal basis varies by region and property (B&B / half board / full board); your itinerary will specify what is included each day so there are no surprises. Dietary needs can usually be accommodated in cities and larger hotels; in remote regions, options may be limited, so we will advise what is realistically possible and help you plan accordingly.

FLIGHTS, VISAS, HEALTH & TRAVEL INSURANCE: Tailor-made holidays often involve multiple internal flights or long overland days. We will advise the most reliable routing and sensible connection times, and confirm whether flights are included or arranged separately. Visa and entry requirements depend on your passport and routing; you are responsible for meeting them, but we will provide guidance on what is typically required and when to apply. Health considerations (altitude, heat, vaccinations, remote travel) vary by destination; we’ll flag key risks so you can make informed decisions and seek medical advice where needed. Comprehensive travel insurance is essential, including medical cover and evacuation for remote areas.

COSTING, PAYMENTS, CHANGES & CANCELLATIONS: Tailor-made pricing is built from live supplier costs (hotels, guides, transport, flights, permits), so availability and rates can change until bookings are secured. We’ll clearly show what is included, what is excluded, and any assumptions (e.g., room categories, seasonal supplements). Deposits are required to confirm arrangements; final balance dates depend on supplier terms and departure date. Changes after booking can trigger supplier fees, fare differences, or re-ticketing costs—particularly for flights and limited-inventory lodges. We will explain the commercial impact of changes before actioning them, and provide documentation so you understand cancellation terms and deadlines.
