Sofitel Luang Prabang

Sofitel Luang Prabang is a luxury, boutique hotel, set near to the centre of Luang Prabang, Laos. Set in a 100-year-old former governor’s residence, this stunning dwelling with its fortified walls, has now been transformed into a luxury all-suite hotel. Standing a couple of blocks out of town, the hotel works better as a refuge; it’s ideal for those who like to stay in close proximity of the interesting sites and yet easily escape to a quiet sanctuary for a relaxing break after exploring the hectic city.

The Sofitel hotel embraces the Luang Prabang’s vernacular architecture – whitewashed walls, wilting eaves and shuttered windows. French colonial style abounds with large courtyards, landscaped gardens, reflecting pools and fireplaces. All suites are individually designed, creating sanctuaries of private space and sumptuous comfort, set against a backdrop of stunning mountains. Inside, expect four poster beds, polished tiled floors, high ceiling and deep baths overlooking the garden.

Dining options at the Sofitel Luang Prabang include the Governor's Grill restaurant serving traditional Laon and French cuisine in a romantic safari pavilion. For relaxation, there is a mosaic tiled pool, flower laden gardens and soothing spa to ensure you feel fully refreshed. In the surrounds, are colourful local markets along the peninsula’s Nam Khan and Mekong Rivers. Interesting sites include Kuang Si waterfalls, Wat Xieng Thong shrine and Pak Ou caves or Buddha caves.

Stay Sofitel Luang Prabang features just 25 elegant villa suites that range in size from spacious to palatial. The elegant décor comprises traditional dark-wood furnishings, high ceilings, polished concrete floors and neutral palettes. Garden, Heritage and Pool Suites feature high ceilings, large outdoor terraces and bathrooms with twin vanities and bathtubs. The grand Governor's Suites have both indoor and outdoor bathrooms, as well as a lavish marble bath tub and expansive garden.

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at Sofitel Luang Prabang but there are no specific facilities available for children. However, babysitting service can be arranged upon request.

Dine Set in a safari pavilion amidst the central courtyard, The Governor’s Grill restaurant serves a fusion of traditional Lao cuisine and delicious Western fare. Meals are served in the safari tent overlooking the botanical garden or in the intimate indoor dining room. Guests also have an option to dine at its sister hotel, 3 Nagas, or you can of course opt to head into the town.

Relax Facilities at the Sofitel Luang Prabang include a 25-meter swimming pool, perfect for laps. For ultimate relaxation there are time-honoured Laotian treatments at Le SPA. At the centre of the hotel is a rice paddy where you can roll up your sleeves and pick up a few harvesting skills or if that is too much work then pick a book from the library and laze in a shaded veranda while the locals plough their fields. There is also a well-equipped gymnasium located in the same building as Le Spa.

Experience Luang Prabang, is one of the beautifully preserved living heritage sites in the world, perfect for exploring on foot or by bike. There are almost 30 temples scattered throughout and groups of saffron-robed monks are a common sight. Interesting sites include the Royal Palace Museum, nearby caves, waterfalls and a vibrant night market. Don’t miss the town’s ‘crowning glory’, the 100 metre Mount Phousi (Sacred Mountain) topped by a 24-metre gilded stupa.
