Satri House: Luxury Boutique Hotel in Luang Prabang

Satri House is a stylish boutique hotel, set in one of the exquisite colonial style buildings in Luang Prabang. Built in charming French colonial style around a lotus pond, this former residence of relatively minor Laos royalty, has been lovingly refurbished for the use of a hotel. The entire place has been wonderfully decorated, with antiques dotted around and there is a very individual feel to the design. Located close to main town, it has the calm and comfort of the past era.

The Satri House hotel has 31 Rooms and Suites, all of which are tastefully furnished with darkwood Lao classical furniture; Tuscan orange walls and muted greys and blues. Rooms are situated in the garden buildings with oversized balconies or terraces overlooking the charming gardens. Some rooms are more spacious and have bathtubs. The larger Satri House Suites are located within the UNESCO protected Heritage House and provide a truly relaxing environment.

The restaurant at the Satri House, serves Asian fusion menu of dishes but most people tend to enjoy the plethora of restaurants in Luang Prabang. There’s a bijou spa centre using organic products made in Thailand, with an herbal steam room and a Jacuzzi. The stunning 15m swimming pool with a pool bar is shaded by tamarind trees and sunburst palms. Within a walking distance are historical sites and in the surrounds, are waterfalls and Pak Ou caves.

Junior Suites are more spacious and come with a bathtub with a separate shower. The larger Satri House Suites are located within the UNESCO protected Heritage House, once used as a residence of the last Prince of Laos. Most rooms have a private balcony or patio.

ChildCare Children are welcome at Satri House but there are no specific facilities are available. However, extra cots and beds for children under 16s are available at a charge. Babysitting service can be arranged on request.

Dine The in-house restaurant, called the Satri House Restaurant overlooks the lush garden. Decorated in traditional Colonial style; Gustavian faux-panelled walls, tile floors and refined jade crockery, it serves Asian and French cuisine menu and excellent Lao food. There's also a pleasant garden bar but most prefer to eat out, at the nearby restaurants in Luang Prabang.

Relax There are two swimming pools in the beautiful grounds of Satri House. The lap pool and regular swim pool are well kept, and serve as a special treat, as swimming pools are rare in Luang Prabang hotels. The beautiful Spa houses a large, romantic Jacuzzi, cool plunge pool and herbal steam room, as well as shower rooms allowing a full therapeutic experience before your massage.

Experience Satri House has bikes available for you to explore Luang Prabang. Just ask at the front desk for keys and you can easily cycle into town, or explore some of the nearby villages as we did. Those who want to participate in the Monks receiving alms can check at the front desk. The hotel staff will help with an offering of sticky rice, but please take advice on the correct way to make your offering.

Location Satri House is a stunning colonial style villa, located in Luang Prabang’s Old Quarter of Luang Prabang. This sophisticated boutique hotel is just a short walking distance from the major tourist attractions, on the path of the morning alms-giving procession.

Getting There Take an international flight to Luang Prabang. Lao Airlines is the national carrier and monopolises the majority of flights in and out of the country, though many code-shares with other air carriers. Satri House is approximately a 25-minute drive from the airport.

When to go The climate in Luang Prabang remains tropical. The best time to visit is in the months between November and mid-March. During these months, the days are pleasant and the nights are chilly. Thereafter the temperature begins to rise and March to May gets very hot. The monsoon arrives in the month of April and peak in August but continues until mid-October. Travel is difficult during these months. Avoid travelling during March-April and August.
