Ansara Hotel, Vientiane, Laos - Asian Geographical Adventures

The Ansara Hotel is Vientiane’s boutique destination that will delight the visitor at first sight. The property is made up of a cluster of colonial-style low buildings around a beautifully landscaped courtyard. The mood here is one of understated elegance, the same kind of gracious, professional hospitality one finds at a high-end country hotel in France. A sense of quiet and privacy pervades.

With just 24 rooms and 4 suites, the Ansara hotel combines quiet sophistication with genuine charm. The decor is casually elegant in the French colonial manner, and our suite was lovely and very comfortable. The wall between the bedroom and sitting room didn't extend all the way to the high ceiling, which gave the rooms an unusually pleasant feeling of both cosiness and openness. The spacious balcony with seating off the bedroom, overlooked their lovely garden area and a wat next door.

The air-conditioned dining room with its white table cloths and well prepared provincial French cooking is an added unexpected pleasure. The hotel itself is very close to the riverfront but was very quiet at night. Recently a new sleek pool has been added, ideal as Vientiane can get quite hot. But the best part of Ansara Hotel is its location next to Wat chan and being immersed in the heart of Vientiane itself and being able to wander and soak up its culture and many heritage sites.

Dine La Signature at the Ansara Hotel has earned the reputation as one of the finest French dining experiences in Vientiane. Guests can choose in the air-conditioned dining room on the first floor or weather permitting, ‘al fresco’ on the ground floor or for more private setting, in the adjoining garden. The Lobby bar is perfect for a casual drink for an intimate setting to enjoy pre- or post-dinner drinks.

Experience Vientiane is possibly one of the best cities for cycling in Southeast Asia. There are bicycles the Ansara Hotel for you to explore the city on your own. Ansara Hotel can arrange half day or full day guided bicycle tours through and around Vientiane. Visit the Orchid Farm if you have a passion for orchids and the desire to be part of the conservation of the unique Lao biodiversity. Alternatively, take a cooking class at the Ansara Hotel gardens, set by the Mekong River.

One More Thing Ansara Hotel is perfect for those on a business trip or even travellers visiting the capital. It has everything that the business traveller needs yet provides it in an intimate manner that other travellers would also enjoy. There is no swimming pool, but you won’t have time for it anyway, but yes, it would have been a great touch. A big tick for the Ansara was when we left for the airport at 4am. They packed us a breakfast of fruit and croissants – these small things leave a great impression.
