3 Nagas Hotel, Luang Prabang, Laos - Asian Geographical Adventures

The 3 Nagas is a charming boutique hotel located in the heart of the World Heritage zone of Luang Prabang. It’s centrally located amongst the Buddhist temples, major tourist attractions, the Night Market and close to the best restaurants in town. The hotel comprises of three century-old buildings, built during the heyday of French colonial rule, now protected by UNESCO. No two rooms are the same but that is precisely, the beauty of this heritage hotel.

The accommodation in 3 Nagas hotel is split into two separate hundred-year old French Villas, set on either side of the road. The Khamboua House, is quieter and has a small private garden. The other, Lamache House, has the main lobby and is busier. Stunning rooms with verandas, furnished with king size beds draped in mosquito net, tiled floors and dark-wood furniture, spell old world style. Modern facilities include an effective A/C unit, bath and a shower. 

Les 3 Nagas is one of the original boutique hotels on the peninsula and still one of the most attractive. The hotel’s main restaurant is known for authentic Laotian cuisine and the laid-back Mango 3 serves Asian-Euro fusion dishes with a dash of French flair. There’s a free shuttle service to its sister hotel, the Sofitel Luang Prabang Hotel, where you can make use of the spa, free gym and outdoor pool. Free bicycles are also available.

Stay Les 3 Nagas has 15 rooms in 3 restored historical houses. Eight rooms are located in The Khamboua House, a classic timber Laotian house, while the other seven rooms are in The Lamache House, which was built in 1898 to house the royal family. Each character-filled room is unique and beautifully furnished with heavy rosewood floors, dark teak furniture and king size four poster beds with gauzy mosquito nets. Executive Suite have a separate living area, terrace and a veranda with a spacious bathroom. 


ChildCare Children are welcome to stay at Les 3 Nagas, Luang Prabang but there are no specific facilities available for them. Children meals and babysitting can be arranged upon request. In the surrounds are activities that will keep children entertained.


Dine There are two restaurants at the Les 3 Nagas. The main restaurant is known for authentic Laotian cuisine serves regional cuisine in a cosy indoor bistro or al fresco courtyard. On hot days, it serves great breakfast/lunch and dinner under the trees but the town has plenty of excellent eating places. The al-la-carte breakfast each morning, includes a wide choice for those not accustomed to Lao cuisine. Coffee is made to order, and the basket of breakfast rolls usually came with freshly baked muffins, still warm. The other, laid-back Mango 3 serves Asian-Euro fusion dishes with a dash of French flair.


Experience The 3 Nagas hotel can arrange for you to participate in the giving of rice to the monks who pass by near the hotel in the early morning (Tak Bat). They put down a mat with cushions and give large containers of rice, so you are able to generously give to each monk who stops by. There are bikes to explore the town. The hotel can also arrange a river cruise to the Pak Ou caves up the Mekong River that takes two-hours each way.

Getting There Take an international flight to Luang Prabang. Lao Airlines is the national carrier and monopolises the majority of flights in and out of the country, though many code-shares with other air carriers. 3 Nagas is located just 6 kilometres away from Luang Prabang International Airport. 


When to go The climate in Luang Prabang remains tropical. The best time to visit is in the months between November and mid-March. During these months the days are pleasant and the nights are chilly. Thereafter the temperature begins to rise and March to May gets very hot. The monsoon arrives in the month of April and peak in August but continues until mid-October. Travel is difficult during these months. Avoid travelling during March-April and August.
