M.S Yangzi Explorer: Cruise Through China's Majestic Yangtze River

The M.S. Yangzi Explorer is the most luxurious ship, operating on the Yangzi River between Yichang and Chongqing. The ship boasts the largest cabins and suites on the river, all with private balconies, as well as the highest crew to passenger ratio, to ensure every level of comfort for an intimate cruising experience. With luxurious onboard facilities including a la carte dining, a luxury spa, an observation deck and a two-floor theatre, it is a perfect choice for discerning travellers.

There are just 62 cabins including 24 suites at the Yangzi Explorer. All cabins are tastefully decorated and fully air conditioned with private bathrooms and balconies for viewing the magnificent scenery. Public areas are tastefully furnished, and include an Observation Deck, an international restaurant and two private dining rooms that can be pre-booked at an additional cost. For relaxation there is a luxurious spa with six treatment rooms, a fitness centre and salon.

Recommended itineraries for Yangzi Explorer include Chongqing to Yichang (4 days/3 nights) or vice versa (5 days/4 nights) which include breathtaking scenery along the 'ghost city' of Fengdu, the Shennong Stream and the Three Gorges Dam Project. There are daily complimentary sightseeing taken by experienced guides to reveal the highlights of this little-known region. Onboard activities include T'ai Chi and Chinese cooking classes, calligraphy and silk embroidery demonstrations.

Stay Yangzi Explorer features 62 cabins including 24 suites. All cabins are tastefully decorated in neutral tones, fully air conditioned and boast floor-to-ceiling windows for natural light and private balconies with outdoor armchairs and coffee tables. Room amenities include king or queen-sized beds, private bathrooms, hairdryer, safety deposit box, mini bar and LCD satellite television.

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at the MS Yangzi Explorer, however children under 12 years will need to be supervised by an adult at all times. A special children’s programme is available on request and includes activities such as Chinese mask making, kite making and Mandarin lessons to keep them entertained. Connecting cabins are available on request as are high chairs, cots, children's DVDs, books and board games.

Dine The Dynasty Palace restaurant on Yangzi Explorer has three dining halls, all serving innovative a-la-carte menus featuring the finest of Chinese and continental cuisine, with complimentary house wines, local beers and other refreshments at all lunches and dinners. The kitchen is happy to accommodate particular dietary requirements, or create a special dinner for your party. Guests can take cooking lessons from the ship’s executive chef and learn to cook local delicacies.

Relax Facilities on board the MS Yangzi Explorer include a theatre, observation deck, library, espresso bar, and boutiques. The Huang Ding Spa with six individual treatment rooms offers a variety of beauty treatments using the best Italian Spa products from 'Comfort Zone'. Other facilities include a sauna, fitness centre and beauty salon. On board entertainment is discerning and the boat is a karaoke free zone!

Experience 'Yangzi Explorer's' on-board China specialists offer a programme of daily lectures and shore excursions, ensuring guests get the best information and are truly engaged in their surroundings. All shore excursions are kept small to ensure passengers experience life on the river in a less crowded environment. Activities on-board include T'ai Chi classes, Chinese cooking classes, calligraphy and silk embroidery demonstrations.
 


 

Location 'Yangzi Explorer' cruises downstream from Chongqing to Yichang (3 nights) and upstream from Yichang to Chongqing (4 nights), with shore excursions while travelling in either direction at local villages (including markets and home visits), the lovely Shennong Stream and the colossal Three Gorges Dam Project.

Getting there The cruise onboard the Yangzi Explorer depart from Chongqing and Yichang. The 3-night cruise departs Chongqing on Thursday and travels downstream to Yichang, arriving on Sunday. Alternatively, you can travel upstream over 4 nights, leaving Yichang on Sunday and arriving in Chongqing the following Thursday.

When to go Best time to travel is between April to October, September is the best month, although pleasant climate resulting in year-round visits. July experiences the heavier rains.
