The Banyan Tree in Lijiang is a luxurious Himalayan retreat in the south-west Yunnan Province. The first impressions at the Banyan Tree Lijiang, take advantage of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain with all individual villas facing northeast to take its unobstructed views. The high stone walls and private courtyards, emulate the style of local Naxi culture, best preserved at the nearby UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lijiang Old Town.
The entry to the Banyan Tree Resort in Lijiang is indeed an understated picture of elegance. On a first cursory look, the resort blends into the existing neighbourhood and seems like just another farm compound. In truth, Banyan Tree is designed to capture the essence of the mythical environment of Shangrila – the urban form of the bustling old town with narrow alleys and waterways, the arching bridges, the entry courtyards and the ever-present orientation to the Snow Mountains.
Each of the 55 villas at the Banyan Tree Resort, Lijiang, have their own garden variations and despite the uniformity in the architecture, the landscape provides a unique and varied experience. The gardens are conceptualized as Chinese courtyards with traditional patterned paving and planting motif. A heated private pool is strategically elevated within the courtyard to enjoy views of the sacred mountain. The Banyan Tree Spa offers signature treatments inspired by the ancient Chinese and Himalayan practices.
