Peninsula Beijing – Premier Hotel in China’s Capital

The Peninsula Beijing is located in the centre of the city’s upmarket Wangfujing shopping district, and close to Tiananmen Square. It has everything you can wish for including; suite size lead in rooms, rooftop bar and a world-class spa, a wide range of dining options and a designer shopping arcade. The hotel prides itself on offering Mercedes or Rolls Royce luxury, and world-class facilities, decorated with an exhibition-worthy collection of paintings, photographs and sculptures.

As part of a $123 million renovation, The Peninsula Beijing has more than halved its rooms. As a result, standard rooms have doubled in size, to 65-square metres, making them the largest in the city. The new décor is smart and soothing with classic earth tones and white marbled bathrooms. Specially-commissioned tablets allow control of internal fittings, city information and booking house services. Duplex rooms are top-notch and its 61 Suites have pretty city views toward Jingshan Park.

The in-house facilities at the Peninsula Beijing are top end including the gym and pool. The spa offers a dazzling menu of treatments featuring traditional Chinese techniques and materials. The indulgent treatments are so much more than just a standard treatment that you need at least an hour to relax before and after your treatments. The hotel is located not far from the historical monuments such as Tiananmen Square, The Forbidden City, and The National Theatre.

Stay The Peninsula Beijing has 230 suite-style rooms. The 60-square metres lead-in Superior rooms, are actually suites with the ability to separate the bedroom from living area via a sliding door. This helps corporate customers to book a standard room and get an automatic upgrade at lead pricing. The Deluxe and Grand Deluxe just have comparatively better views. The 17 Suites have surround sound and come with private cinema rooms and bathrooms with windows above the tub.

ChildCare Children are welcome to stay at Peninsula Beijing. All the rooms are spacious to accommodate cots, which are available. There is a children’s menu at Jing and children's room service. The Peninsula Kids Academy runs cultural and cooking activities for 6 to 12-year-olds. Babysitting can be provided.

Dine The two restaurants at Peninsula Beijing cover a full spectrum of Cantonese, Asian and Western cuisine. The popular Huang Ting Chinese restaurant, with an atmospheric setting, recreates a Beijing nobleman's courtyard home. We fell in love with their dumplings – a must try. International restaurant Jing, has an on-trend farm-to-table affair using organic, seasonable, traceable produce wherever possible. Experience afternoon tea at The Lobby or enjoy a la carte breakfast.

Relax The Peninsula spa offers a dazzling menu of treatments featuring traditional Chinese techniques and materials. Its signature journey of a Yin-Yang massage begins with a body exfoliation, then moves into a cool marine mud or algae gel body wrap or black lychee and green tea essential oils. The two-hour treatment ends with one-hour long relaxation. The hotel also has a stylish Fitness Centre and a crystal-clear indoor swimming pool, canopied by an elegant glass ceiling.

Experience The kilometre long Wangfujing Street, close to the Peninsula Hotel, Beijing is full of shops with international brands. The Oriental Plaza is huge, with over 40 worldwide known brands and possibly one of the largest shopping malls in Asia. It is Beijing’s version of the Bloomingdales and the Wangfujing shopping district comparable with the New York's Fifth Avenue, the Champs-Elysees of Paris and the Ginza in Tokyo.

Location The Peninsula Beijing is located in Beijing's cultural district, adjacent to the Wangfujing shopping. The great plus is that it is only a few blocks from two underground train stations which makes getting around town extremely easy. All the important tourist destinations like Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Drum Tower etc, seem like just a walk away.

Getting There Beijing International Airport is about 19 km northeast of the city centre. Taxis are plentiful and can take you into town from 30 mins to over an hour, depending on traffic. Adventurers can take a 23-min train ride to a fairly central station in Beijing. Unless you are fluent in Mandarin, have the address of your hotel written out in Chinese. If you get lost, ask. Beijingers are friendly and willing to help. Hint: The younger the person is, the more likely he or she is to speak some English.

When to go The best time to visit Beijing is during autumn (September to early November) when the skies are clear and the weather is at its comfortable best. The second-best time is spring; late March to mid-May, when winds blow away the pollution but sometimes bring clouds of scouring sand for a day or two, turning the sky a livid yellow (great for pictures). From May onwards the mercury begins to surge well over 30°C until the rains arrive. The months of July and August are sultry and humid.
