Brickyard Beijing is an eco-hotel, set in a small valley under Mutianyu Great Wall near Beijing in Northeast China. This property is unique. Jim Spear, an American and his wife Liang Tang discovered this rundown glazed tile factory in the early 2000. And, although they were appalled to see its state, it also had incredible view of forested ridges topped by the imposing Great Wall. They decided to keep the story alive and now fully resorted it is an incredibly special boutique hotel.
Set in a private garden surrounded by fields and orchards, the Brickyard hotel features just 25 rooms in the main house. There are also nine 'houses' that are scattered throughout the village, perfect for families and small groups travelling together. There are no TVs, just beautiful floor to ceiling windows, exposed brick, crisp comfortable beds and contemporary open bathrooms. Some rooms have private terraces with views over the Great Wall.
At the heart of the hotel is the Brickyard Lodge, offering locally sourced, country style cuisine, including pork dumplings, pan fried steak, and grilled trout. Meals can be taken in the dining room or on the patio overlooking a lovely garden. For those who want to relax, there are two spa treatment rooms, an outdoor Jacuzzi and yoga platform. During the day, guests can explore the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall and meet local families and learn about their traditional way of life.

Location The Brickyard is located approximately 1 hour northeast of central Beijing and is just 1.3km from the Mutianyu entrance to the Great Wall. The hotel is located in the wonderful Mutianyu village, whereas The Schoolhouse is in nearby Mutianyu Village.
Getting there The Brickyard is about 60km from the Beijing international airport, a journey that normally takes 1 hour if the traffic is clear. Transfers are available between the resort and the airport on arrival and departure.
When to go Beijing enjoys four distinctive seasons owning to its humid continental climate, ranging from very warm during the summer to chilly and dry during the winter. Autumn is the optimal season to visit Beijing as the weather is gorgeous and fewer tourists are in town. In winter, it’s glacial outside and the northern winds cut through the city. Arid spring is OK, apart from the awesome sand clouds that sweep in from Inner Mongolia and the static electricity that discharges everywhere.
