Start your adventure in Tajikistan in its heart, Dushanbe. Upon arrival you will be met and taken to your hotel for some rest. After lunch, explore the city’s history. Once known as Stalinabad, Dushanbe was transformed during Soviet rule into a model Central Asian city with wide boulevards and big public spaces. See Dousti Square’s monumental architecture and the statue of Ismoil Somoni, replacing Lenin, as a tribute to the regional hero. Visit the Ismaili Centre, modernity and tradition and the National Museum, where you can view an impressive collection of antiquities and ancient artifacts, offering a glimpse into Tajikistan’s history from natural wonders to contemporary achievements.
Start the day with breakfast and then continue to explore Dushanbe. See the Soviet-era buildings as you head to the Museum of Antiquity, home to a remarkable collection of antiquities including the biggest Buddha in Central Asia, a site frequently visited by travelers. Visit the Gurminj Museum of Musical Instruments and the historic Fort Hissar, both popular sites visited by those interested in the region’s long history. Drive to the beautiful Iskander-Kul Lake, a glacial lake known for its striking blue color, in the Fann Mountains. The road through Varzob gorge offers stunning views of meadows, waterfalls, hot springs, and snow-capped, towering mountains. This remote area is renowned for its seclusion and untouched natural beauty, which makes the journey especially memorable for those seeking adventure. Upon arrival, check into a local hotel and have lunch. Explore the area’s natural beauty, a hidden waterfall, and the peaceful Snake Lake. If you wish, swim in the cool waters of Iskander-Kul Lake and spend the evening surrounded by nature.
Visit Saritag, a small, remote village in the Fann Mountains. Here you will experience the local way of life, staying in a guesthouse among farmers and herders, where you can interact with the local people and learn about their traditions. Explore the landscape, the Karakul River and the mysterious Karakul Lake, surrounded by majestic snow-capped mountains. The breathtaking scenery and warm hospitality makes the experience in Saritag truly memorable. Have a picnic with views and spend the day immersing yourself in nature before returning to the village at sunset.
Go higher into the Fann Mountains to the enigmatic and remote Alaudin Lakes. Check into the Verticle Base Camp, your base for exploring this hidden paradise. Trek to Alaudin Lake, where blue skies, crystal clear waters, and the diverse flora—including vibrant wildflowers and unique alpine plants—await. The untouched landscape and the variety of plant life are part of what makes the Alaudin Lakes so special. Have a picnic by the lake and enjoy the serene atmosphere. Continue to explore the area, each lake has its own colour and charm. End your day with dinner and a peaceful night’s rest.
Spend an unforgettable evening at the Artuch Base in the Fann Mountains. Located 2,200 meters above sea level, Artuch offers stunning views of alpine meadows and traditional Tajik architecture. What makes Artuch Base truly memorable is the breathtaking mountain scenery combined with the tranquility of the surroundings. The area is known for its rich alpine flora, with diverse plants and wildflowers adding vibrant color to the meadows. On the way, have a traditional Tajik dinner in the picturesque Rudaki village, named after the famous Tajik poet A. Rudaki, whose mausoleum you will also visit. Here, you can meet local people and experience their renowned hospitality, gaining insight into traditional Tajik life. After settling in at the base camp, hike for 2-3 hours to Chukurak Lake, 2,450 meters. The lake is divided into two by a natural dam and surrounded by juniper-covered mountains, a peaceful escape into nature where the unique flora and serene landscape make the hike especially rewarding.
Leave the Fann Mountains behind and head to the Seven Lakes, one of the most remarkable places in Tajikistan. These glacial-melt lakes in a rocky valley, connected by the Shing River, are a natural wonder frequently visited by travelers. While travelling through the valley, you can drive along the river, see each lake and then hike to the seventh lake, 2,420 meters, only accessible on foot. End your mountain adventure and head to Pendjikent, another place of interest and an ancient city with an evening of history.
