Go on a high altitude wildlife journey In Pursuit of the Snow Leopard. This 14 day expedition combines expert tracking with cultural experiences, taking you from Delhi to Leh and deep into the remote village of Ullay—one of the best places in the world to see the Snow Leopard in its natural habitat, including the vital Hemis National Park. This unforgettable adventure is designed for wildlife enthusiasts, led by a local specialist and staying at the famous Snow Leopard Lodge. You’ll explore three valleys, each with opportunities to see rare wildlife and experience the raw beauty of the Himalayas.
Beyond wildlife tracking, this journey offers cultural insights. Use spotting scopes to observe elusive animals from a distance during your search.

Track Snow Leopards in the remote valleys of Ladakh on this 14-day wildlife expedition. Begin your adventure by reaching Leh, the gateway to the region’s wilderness. Stay in Ullay’s Snow Leopard Lodge, explore high altitude landscapes that form the perfect habitat for snow leopards, and visit ancient monasteries. A unique mix of nature, culture and adventure for travellers seeking rare wildlife encounters, including the chance to observe the elusive snow leopard, and meaningful experiences in Himalayan India.
Arrive in New Delhi, where you’ll be warmly welcomed and transferred to your luxury hotel. Spend the day relaxing and getting used to the local time zone. If you wish, explore the nearby area at your own pace or simply chill out and enjoy the hotel’s facilities. In the evening, enjoy a delicious meal at the hotel’s restaurant. It’s a gentle start to your journey, all about comfort, ease and getting ready for the adventure ahead in India’s capital.
Start early for your flight to Leh, high up in the Himalayas. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and spend the rest of the day relaxing and getting used to the altitude. Don’t do too much and drink plenty of fluids. Leh’s mountain air is fresh and the pace is slow. The cold weather, especially in the mornings and evenings, makes it essential to wear warm clothing to stay comfortable and safe. Enjoy the views around you, snow capped peaks and open skies. Drinking hot water is important here, both to stay warm and to help your body adjust to the altitude. It’s a peaceful and beautiful place to start your Himalayan journey. Spend the day unwinding and soaking up the stillness of this high altitude region.
Begin the day with a visit to Thiksey Monastery, famous for its hilltop location and peaceful atmosphere. Walk through the temple halls and see the large Maitreya Buddha statue. Later, head into Leh town to explore the bustling local market. Browse the stalls, try local snacks, and enjoy a true cultural experience as you witness everyday life in Ladakh. End the day at Shanti Stupa, which has great views of Leh and the surrounding area, showcasing the scenic beauty of the mountains—especially at sunset. It’s a day of spiritual calm, cultural immersion, and your first real steps into the heart of Ladakhi life.
Today, enjoy a scenic drive through Ladakh’s dramatic landscape, visiting small villages tucked between barren cliffs and snowy peaks. Watch for native wildlife such as Golden Eagles, Blue Sheep, soaring Lammergeiers, the sought-after White Winged Redstart, and the rare Tibetan Partridge. As you pass monasteries and fluttering prayer flags, take in the timeless beauty of this high-altitude world. You’ll have plenty of chances to stop for photos, admire the views, and speak with locals along the way. Return to Leh in the evening and enjoy some downtime at your hotel after a full day of natural and cultural exploration.
Depart for Ullay, a remote village known for Snow Leopard sightings and peaceful surroundings. The drive is beautiful, with winding roads passing rivers, canyons, and scattered settlements. Stop at monasteries or viewpoints along the way. As you arrive in Ullay, settle into the Snow Leopard Lodge, your base for the coming days. Take in the silence of the mountains and breathe in the pure air. With luck, you may even spot Ibex or a Snow Leopard nearby. The evening is spent enjoying a hearty dinner and resting in the warm, cosy comfort of your lodge. To cope with the biting cold of the mountains, guests often wear warm clothes and drink warm water or tea as part of their evening routine.
Enjoy a slow morning at the lodge, starting with a warm Ladakhi breakfast. Spend time chatting with fellow travellers and locals before taking a gentle walk through the village. With fewer people and untouched scenery, Ullay offers space for quiet reflection and genuine connection with nature. This day is ideal for rest and light exploration, helping your body continue adjusting to the altitude. Later, return to the lodge, where your hosts will prepare a delicious home-cooked dinner. Sleep well in the crisp mountain air, surrounded by silence and snow-covered ridges.
Meet Norbu, your expert guide and a true Snow Leopard enthusiast. His deep knowledge of the land and local wildlife makes him an ideal companion for today’s tracking adventure. With his help, you’ll learn about Snow Leopard habits, recent sightings, and how locals live alongside these shy creatures. The day is spent hiking and observing, with ample time for taking photos and enjoying the scenery. After the day’s adventures, return to the lodge for a hot meal and relaxing evening. It’s a day of learning, wildlife, and unforgettable landscapes.
Fuel up with breakfast before heading out with Norbu to the first of three valleys known for Snow Leopard sightings. Travel by SUV and on foot as you scan the snowy terrain for signs of wildlife. These remote valleys are home to more than just Snow Leopards—look out for Himalayan birds and foxes. Enjoy the thrill of the search, the solitude of the mountains, and the detailed tracking methods shared by Norbu. Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and conversation, reflecting on the landscapes and any wildlife you encountered.
Today, you’ll journey into the second Snow Leopard valley with Norbu, continuing your search. Keep watch for other mountain animals such as Urial, Ibex, Wolves, and the Himalayan Fox. Each moment offers the possibility of an encounter, and Norbu’s stories add depth to every sighting. The cold air, silent valleys, and raw beauty create a feeling of being far from the world. After another rewarding day of exploration, return to Ullay for a warm welcome, hot drinks, and a relaxing evening with your hosts.
Visit the third valley today, rounding off your trio of Snow Leopard habitats. The landscape changes subtly between valleys, each offering a different perspective. Listen to Norbu’s stories about his years of tracking leopards and helping protect them. Interact with villagers to hear their personal encounters with wildlife. Today’s journey blends natural discovery with cultural insight. As the sun sets behind the hills, return to your lodge for a final meal in Ullay. It’s a quiet moment to reflect on the experiences and connections you’ve made in this rare, wild place.
Take it slow today. After breakfast, enjoy one last walk through the village or return to a favourite valley. You may still spot animals or simply savour the quietness of this remote location. Spend time talking with your hosts, learning about their daily life, customs, and beliefs. With good visibility, the stars tonight might offer one last surprise—a reminder of how far you’ve come. This final day in Ullay is about appreciating the peace, nature, and kindness that defined your time here.
Say goodbye to Ullay after breakfast and begin the scenic drive back to Leh. Stop en route at Alchi Monastery, one of the oldest in Ladakh. Marvel at its detailed murals and wooden carvings. This peaceful riverside site offers a glimpse into the spiritual history of the region. Continue your journey to Leh and check in at the comfortable Hotel Grand Dragon. Take a walk in the town or relax at the hotel, enjoying modern comforts while reflecting on your time in the mountains.
After breakfast, enjoy your final full day in Ladakh. You may wish to return to the market for last-minute shopping or take a quiet stroll to soak up the mountain air. There’s time to rest, write in your journal, or simply sit back and enjoy the views. If lucky, you might even catch a final glimpse of a Snow Leopard in the distance. Spend your last evening in Leh at leisure, savouring local dishes and thinking back over the incredible experiences of the past two weeks.
After breakfast, you’ll transfer to Leh airport for your flight back to Delhi. Upon arrival, connect to your onward international flight. As your journey ends, carry home not just photos and souvenirs, but memories of wildlife encounters, highland landscapes, and the warmth of Ladakhi hospitality.
