Delhi to Delhi – 9 days
Trace North India’s essential arc in nine well-paced days: Delhi’s layered Old–New contrasts, Agra’s Mughal masterpieces and the Taj Mahal, Ranthambore’s tiger country, and Jaipur’s fort-studded “Pink City” before returning to the capital for departure. The route is sequenced to minimise backtracking and keep drive times sensible, with UNESCO highlights woven through each stop—Jama Masjid and Chandni Chowk, Humayun’s Tomb and Qutub Minar, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri, Amber Fort, the City Palace and Jantar Mantar. It’s a classic introduction, elevated by strong guiding and smart timing.
Wildlife adds a different register: two canter safaris in Ranthambore with a resident naturalist, looking for tiger, deer, crocodiles and prolific birdlife. Expect a comfortable rhythm—curated sightseeing, unhurried evenings, and reliable hotel bases—ideal for first-time visitors or travellers who want India’s icons with a touch of wilderness and royal Rajasthan heritage, without feeling rushed.
TAJ MAHAL SUNRISE VISIT AND AGRA FORT TOUR: Few experiences match seeing the Taj Mahal at its most atmospheric, when the marble shifts from cool grey to soft gold as the sun rises. Your guide helps you read the detail—perfect symmetry, calligraphy, and the extraordinary pietra dura inlay work that still looks razor-sharp centuries later. Back in the old Mughal capital, explore Agra Fort (UNESCO), a vast red-sandstone citadel of palaces, audience halls and mosques where emperors shaped an empire. Together, these two monuments reveal the power, artistry and human stories behind North India’s most iconic architecture.
DELHI OLD AND NEW CITY SIGHTSEEING WITH UNESCO LANDMARKS: Start in Old Delhi’s living history: Jama Masjid’s monumental courtyard, then a cycle-rickshaw weave through Chandni Chowk’s spice lanes and bazaars, with a drive past the Red Fort’s ramparts. Contrast comes fast in New Delhi—broad boulevards and imperial geometry as you pass India Gate, Parliament House and the President’s residence. The day deepens with two UNESCO standouts: Humayun’s Tomb, the prototype for later Mughal mausoleums, and Qutub Minar, a soaring victory tower set amid early Sultanate ruins and the famous Iron Pillar. It’s Delhi in full dimension.
RANTHAMBORE TIGER SAFARI EXPERIENCE WITH NATURALIST: Ranthambore is one of India’s best-known places to look for wild tiger, and the landscape—rocky ridges, lakes and ancient ruins—makes every safari feel cinematic. You’ll head out twice in shared canter vehicles, morning and afternoon, when wildlife is most active. A resident naturalist tracks alarm calls and pugmarks, and explains how water sources, prey movement and season shape sightings. Beyond tiger, expect sambar and chital deer, nilgai, langurs, marsh crocodiles by the lakes, and prolific birdlife (over 300 species recorded). The safaris add genuine wilderness to an otherwise heritage-rich route.
JAIPUR AMBER FORT AND PINK CITY PALACE HIGHLIGHTS: Jaipur delivers Rajasthan’s royal theatre in one compact, walkable core. Begin with a photo stop at Hawa Mahal, the “Palace of Winds”, its honeycomb façade built for discreet viewing of street processions. Then head to Amber Fort (UNESCO), a hilltop stronghold of gates, courtyards and mirrored halls overlooking Maota Lake—one of North India’s most dramatic fort settings. In the city, tour the City Palace complex, still partly occupied by the former royal family, with museums of textiles, arms and miniature art. Finish at Jantar Mantar, the extraordinary 18th-century observatory that still measures time with startling precision.
The difference with the Asian Geographical is, that each of our holidays is designed with extreme precision of a mountaineering expedition.
A 9-day small-group journey through North India’s icons: explore Old and New Delhi, then travel to Agra for the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. Continue via Fatehpur Sikri to Ranthambore for two guided canter safaris in tiger country. Finish in Jaipur with Amber Fort, the City Palace and Jantar Mantar, before returning to Delhi to fly home. Well-paced drives, strong guiding, and comfortable hotel bases throughout.
Arrive at New Delhi International Airport (Terminal 3) where our representative meets you at the exit with a placard. Transfer to your hotel and settle in; standard check-in is from 14:00. After lunch, take time to rest and reset after the journey. Delhi—rebuilt by successive dynasties—sets the tone for the days ahead, with Old Delhi’s medieval lanes and New Delhi’s grand, planned avenues offering a compelling contrast. The remainder of the day is at leisure for a gentle stroll, spa time, or simply recovering your energy. Overnight in Delhi.
Meals Included: Breakfast
The Suryaa New Delhi
Set in New Friends Colony, South Delhi, The Suryaa New Delhi is a polished city base for guests who want comfortable logistics as well as a little downtime between sightseeing and meetings in New Delhi. The address works well for south-Delhi districts and key road links.
The hotel has 244 recently renovated rooms and suites, geared to practical comfort rather than fuss. When you’re not out exploring, there’s a swimming pool and a well-equipped fitness centre, plus a spa with massage, sauna, jacuzzi and hydrobath—ideal after a long flight or a day in traffic.
Dining is a strong suit: Ssence for all-day favourites, Sampan as a rooftop Pan-Asian address with city views, Atrium Bar & Lounge for an easy drink, and French Crust for pastries and takeaway treats. We like it as a reliable, well-rounded stop on Delhi-led itineraries.
Begin in Old Delhi at Jama Masjid, Shah Jahan’s 17th-century masterpiece, then ride a cycle-rickshaw through Chandni Chowk’s lively bazaar lanes (many shops close Sundays). Drive past the Red Fort before heading to Imperial New Delhi for a panoramic pass of India Gate, Parliament House, the Secretariat buildings and the President’s residence. This afternoon, explore Humayun’s Tomb, a UNESCO-listed garden mausoleum that inspired later Mughal architecture. Continue to Qutub Minar, a soaring victory tower surrounded by evocative early Sultanate monuments, including the Iron Pillar and historic tombs. Overnight in Delhi.
Meals Included: Breakfast
Travel by road to Agra, once the Mughal empire’s ‘seat of the Emperor’ on the Yamuna River. On arrival, tour Agra Fort (UNESCO), a vast complex of audience halls, gardens, mosques and royal pavilions that reveals the evolving aesthetics of Akbar, Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb. Check in to your hotel and pause before this evening’s highlight: the Taj Mahal (UNESCO), a white-marble masterpiece built by Shah Jahan in memory of Mumtaz Mahal. Take time to absorb its symmetry, changing light and exquisite pietra dura inlay work. Note: the Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays. Overnight in Agra.
Meals Included: Breakfast
Grand Mercure Agra
Set on Fatehabad Road in Agra, Grand Mercure Agra is a five-star property from Accor that nods to the city’s heritage. Many rooms are positioned for Taj-facing views, and the hotel sits by a metro station, making transfers straightforward. It works well for leisure stays and efficient tour stopovers.
Rooms start at around 32 m², with junior suites offering extra space. For downtime, head to the rooftop: there’s a swimming pool and a poolside restaurant with the Taj Mahal as your backdrop. Dining is rounded out by Lattice, the all-day restaurant, plus Bello Italiano—promoted as the only Italian restaurant in town.
We favour it on our Golden Triangle-style journeys because it supports early starts and clean logistics: sunrise at the Taj, breakfast afterwards, then a calm base for an afternoon reset before your next guide-led visit. It also suits small-group arrivals and departures, with several banquet spaces for private groups.
Drive to Ranthambore, stopping en route at Fatehpur Sikri, Akbar’s extraordinary red-sandstone capital (1572–1585). Walk through courtyards, palaces and mosque precincts, and visit the luminous white-marble tomb of Shaikh Salim Chishti, before continuing onwards. Lunch at a local restaurant along the way. Arrive in Ranthambore and check in to your lodge near the national park—one of North India’s best-known tiger reserves, framed by rugged Aravalli hills and the atmospheric Ranthambore Fort. This evening, join an introductory talk and slideshow with a resident naturalist to understand the park’s wildlife and safari dynamics. Dinner and overnight in Ranthambore.
Meals Included: Lunch, Dinner
Ranthambore Regency
Ranthambore Regency is a well-established safari hotel close to the national park, known for its easy logistics and relaxed, friendly feel. It suits clients who want comfort and convenience for early game drives, with a property that feels calm once you’re back from the forest.
Rooms are practical and comfortable—good beds, air-conditioning and dependable hot water—set within a leafy, resort-style layout. Between safaris, there’s space to unwind: gardens for a quiet stroll, shaded seating for reading, and a pool that’s particularly welcome in warmer months. Staff are used to the Ranthambore rhythm and keep things running smoothly around park timings.
Meals are served in-house, generally Indian with familiar options, and the team can usually arrange early breakfasts and packed snacks when required. Overall, Ranthambore Regency is a reliable, good-value base for tiger country, offering a straightforward stay with solid service and easy access to the park.
Rise early for a shared canter safari in Ranthambore National Park, once the Maharaja of Jaipur’s hunting grounds and now one of Rajasthan’s best places to look for wild tigers. Your naturalist helps interpret tracks, calls and habitat, while you scan for sambar and chital deer, nilgai, langurs, crocodiles near the lakes, and an exceptional birdlife list (300+ species). Return to the lodge for breakfast and time to rest. This afternoon, head out again for a second safari, with fresh light and different wildlife rhythms. Park closure: July–September (monsoon).
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Enjoy a relaxed morning at leisure—sleep in, take a gentle walk, or simply unwind at the lodge. After lunch, drive to Jaipur and check in on arrival. Founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, Jaipur is India’s celebrated “Pink City”, planned on classical principles and still alive with palaces, processional streets and bazaar energy. As evening falls, settle into your hotel and begin to feel the city’s royal rhythm—forts on the horizon, sandstone façades glowing in the last light, and a lively street scene that blends tradition with modern India.
Meals Included: Breakfast
Radisson City Centre, Jaipur
On M I Road near Khasa Kothi Circle, Radisson Jaipur City Centre is a convenient base for the Pink City—close to the railway, metro and bus links, and within easy reach of the old bazaars and landmark sights. It’s a practical choice for Golden Triangle-style itineraries where timing and smooth transfers matter.
Rooms and suites are modern and comfortable, with free Wi-Fi and a calm, business-friendly feel. Between outings, there’s a rooftop pool for a late-afternoon reset, plus a gym and spa facilities (including a steam room) when you want to unwind after a day in the heat.
Dining is a genuine plus: four on-site venues ranging from all-day Mosaic to the The Great Kabab Factory, Dragon House, and Kasbah lounge. Sightseeing days pair neatly with nearby icons such as Hawa Mahal, City Palace, Jaipur and Amber Fort.
This morning drive to Amber, pausing for photos at the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds), its honeycomb façade designed so royal women could watch street life unseen. Continue to Amber Fort (UNESCO), a grand hilltop citadel of ramparts, gates and courtyards, with highlights such as the Diwan-i-Aam, Diwan-i-Khas, the Sheesh Mahal (Mirror Palace) and lake views from Maota. This afternoon, explore the City Palace complex—museums, courtyards and royal collections—then walk to the adjacent Jantar Mantar, an 18th-century astronomical observatory whose instruments still measure time and celestial movement with striking accuracy.
Meals Included: Breakfast
The morning is free for a slow start—perhaps a final browse of Jaipur’s artisan bazaars, a café pause, or time at your hotel before the journey. In the afternoon, drive back to Delhi and check in on arrival. The evening is at leisure to enjoy a relaxed dinner, organise last-minute shopping, or simply recharge after a rich run of highlights—from Mughal masterpieces to tiger country and Rajput splendour. Your guide can advise on timing for the airport transfer tomorrow and any practicalities for departure. Overnight in Delhi.
After breakfast, transfer to Delhi’s international airport in good time for your onward flight to Singapore. Depending on flight timings, there may be a chance for a final tea or coffee before check-out. Assistance is provided with arrival at the terminal and airport formalities as you connect onwards. Leave India with the arc of the journey clear in mind: Delhi’s layered history, the timeless beauty of the Taj, the thrill of Ranthambore’s wilderness, and Jaipur’s palaces, forts and living traditions—each chapter distinct, yet woven into one well-paced northern India experience. Safe travels.
Meals Included: Breakfast
GROUP, SUPPORT STAFF & TRIP STYLE: This is a well-paced 9-day small-group journey linking India’s headline sights with a short wildlife chapter. Depending on group size, you’ll be hosted either by an English-speaking accompanying Group Leader (typically for 7–34 guests) or by excellent local city guides at each stop (1–6 guests), with a dedicated driver and private air-conditioned vehicle throughout. Days combine guided touring with free time in the evenings, and early starts are built in where they materially improve the experience (notably in Delhi and around the Taj Mahal). Roads are generally good, but there are a few longer drive days; flexibility is helpful for traffic, security checks and occasional monument closures.
ACCOMMODATION, MEAL PLAN, FOOD & WATER: Accommodation is in comfortable hotels on a twin-share basis; single rooms may be available with a supplement, subject to availability. Breakfast is included daily. In Ranthambore, your lodge/hotel is on a full-board basis (breakfast, lunch and dinner), which suits safari timings and the limited evening dining options in the park zone. Elsewhere, lunches and dinners are typically taken at trusted local restaurants or your hotel and are paid separately unless stated. Vegetarian choices are widely available; if you have allergies or specific dietary needs, tell us in advance so we can brief hotels and restaurants. Bottled drinking water is provided daily (two 500 ml bottles per person).
WILDLIFE SAFARIS, PARK RULES & PERMITS: Ranthambore safaris are conducted in shared canter vehicles (open-sided “bus”) and are scheduled in morning and afternoon slots of around three hours each. Tiger sightings are never guaranteed, but the park also offers excellent chances for deer, langur, crocodile and prolific birdlife. Safari allocations (zone, timing and vehicle) are controlled by the forest authorities and are limited; bookings open months in advance and are issued on a first-come basis. Providing passenger names and passport details early helps us secure permits, but allocations cannot be guaranteed if details are received late. Ranthambore National Park typically closes during the monsoon (generally July–September).
SPENDING MONEY, CURRENCY & TIPPING
India’s currency is the Indian Rupee (INR). Daily costs vary by appetite and style, but you should budget for lunches and dinners (outside Ranthambore, where all meals are included), drinks, snacks, personal shopping and optional extras. Cards are widely accepted in city hotels and many restaurants, yet cash remains useful for markets, small cafés and tips—so carry a sensible mix of smaller notes. ATMs are common in Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, but can be less convenient around Ranthambore; withdraw what you need before entering the park zone. Tipping is customary and genuinely appreciated: budget for gratuities for your driver, local guides/accompanying leader, naturalists, and hotel staff. Your leader can suggest a simple per-day guideline based on group size and local norms.
PASSPORTS, VISAS, BAGGAGE, CLIMATE & INSURANCE
You are responsible for travelling with a valid passport and meeting India’s entry requirements. All UK citizens, including children and minors, require a visa to enter India. British citizens can apply for an Indian e-Visa online. Applications must be made using an Ordinary Passport (e-Visa India). Pack light and use soft-sided luggage where possible; vehicle luggage space is limited, and you’ll find it easier for hotel check-ins. Expect a mix of warm days and cooler mornings/evenings (especially between November and February), with occasional haze in the Delhi–Agra corridor; layers, sun protection and comfortable walking shoes are essential. Travel insurance is strongly recommended and should cover medical treatment, cancellations and travel disruption; if you want cover for safari-related activities and delays, ensure these are included in your policy.
