Welcome to Kazakhstan! Begin your captivating journey through Kazakhstan with your late-night arrival in Almaty, the nation's cultural and historical gem. After being transferred to your hotel you’ll get a snack, a taste of what’s to come and settle in for your first night in this cool city.
First full day in Almaty is all about history and nature, exploration its deep-rooted history and breathtaking natural landscapes. Start with a visit to the Central Historical Museum, offering insights into Kazakhstan's past. Then travel to Issyk Lake, an alpine lake surrounded by archaeological treasures, including the burial grounds of the Golden Man. Afterward, take an adventurous hike through Turgen River Gorge to a magnificent waterfall before returning to Almaty for a well-deserved dinner and restful night.
Day of ancient history and nature. We will start with the UNESCO-listed Tamgaly petroglyph site, with rock carvings where your expert guide will provide details. After lunch, travel to Big Almaty Lake, offering stunning mountain views. End of the day visit to a falcon farm for an enthralling Golden Eagle Show, to see Kazakhstan’s falconry heritage and return to Almaty for dinner and overnight.
Start the day with a trip to Charyn National Park, with the stunning Charyn Canyon, the world’s second largest canyon. This natural wonder will leave you speechless with its vast landscapes and geological formations. After exploring the canyon continue to Shonzhy, a peaceful place to relax in hot springs and enjoy the tranquillity of the area. Lunch in the quaint village of Kokpek will introduce you to local cuisine and dinner at your hotel in Shonzhy where you can take a good night’s rest.
After breakfast drive to Altyn-Emel National Park to see the ‘Singing Dunes’. The sound of the sand is a natural wonder not to be missed. Then journey to Kapchagay, a nice city by the Ili River, to relax by the water. The day concludes with a return to Almaty for dinner, where you can relish the city's vibrant culinary scene once more.
Continue your adventure with a second visit to Altyn-Emel National Park to see more of its natural beauty. Discover ancient petroglyphs where your expert guide will tell the story of the land. End of the day take a train journey from Almaty to Taraz, a unique overnight journey that bridges the ancient and modern Kazakhstan.
Arrive in Taraz, a historical city in Jambyl Province, and start the day with a gentle morning at your hotel. After breakfast with a local archaeologist visit the Regional Museum, ancient mausoleums, Tukturmas catacombs and a local market. Afternoon adventure to Akyrtobe to see the remains of an ancient civilization. End of the day take a scenic drive to Berikara Gorge, where the mountainous landscape unfolds. Overnight at a cozy guest house in the mountains.
Spend the day in Berikara Gorge where rock paintings will show you ancient tribal life. Traverse the landscape on horseback, a peaceful experience blending culture and nature. See ancient mounds that tell the story of the past. As the sun sets return to your guest house and reflect on a day in Kazakhstan’s great outdoors.
Drive to Shymkent, a city full of life and history. Here visit an underground mosque and see local potters at work. At the South Kazakhstan Regional Historical Museum you will hear tales of the region’s past. After lunch visit ancient city of Sairam, which reveals the Silk Road legacy. End your day at the breathtaking Aksu Canyon in Sairam Ugam National Park, where the brave can cross the Devil’s Bridge. Dinner in Shymkent and end of the day.
Drive to Turkestan, a city steeped in the history of the Turkic people. Visit ancient Otrar and pilgrimage sites like 12th century Mausoleum of Arystan-bab and Khodja Ahmed Yassaui Mausoleum. Lunch at a café and then visit medieval bathhouses and see remnants of citadel walls. Overnight train journey to Almaty.
Today we will explore Kok-Tobe mountain in Almaty, the highest point of the city with stunning views of the city and mountains. Spend the day on cultural visits: Kastayev State Arts Museum and Monument of Independence. End of the day with dinner and show at Alasha restaurant, a nice farewell to Kazakhstan.
