India Wildlife Safari and Taj Mahal

Mumbai to Delhi – 13 days

See India’s coast, jungles and Mughal showpieces on a well-paced 13-day small-group journey. Start in high-energy Mumbai, then fly to central India for two tiger reserves: Pench’s teak valleys and Tadoba’s bamboo thickets. Morning and afternoon jeep safaris are led by lodge naturalists who read alarm calls, pugmarks and waterholes for the best chances of tiger, leopard, dhole and superb birdlife, with restful lodge time between drives.

Fly on to Delhi for Old–New contrasts, then board the fast Gatimaan Express to Agra for Agra Fort and a sunrise Taj view. Continue by road via Fatehpur Sikri to Jaipur for Amer Fort, City Palace and Jantar Mantar, plus curated craft lanes and safe street-food stops if you wish. Asian Geographical’s local expert guides add clear context and etiquette, while our team sequences flights, trains, safari permits and visit times to reduce backtracking, place you near the action and sidestep peak crowds—so you spend your energy on real discovery, not logistics.

Highlights

MUMBAI HERITAGE WALK: Prince of Wales Museum, Mani Bhavan and Gateway of India set the story; Marine Drive’s Art Deco curve frames sunset. Your guide can add Khotachiwadi lanes or Kala Ghoda galleries, pacing the day for heat and traffic. A punchy, well-told introduction to India’s most cosmopolitan city.

PENCH NATIONAL PARK TIGER SAFARI: Dawn and afternoon jeep drives with lodge naturalists who read pugmarks, alarm calls and waterholes. Teak forests and river meadows host tiger, leopard, dhole, sloth bear and superb birdlife. Between drives, rest by the lodge pool. Permits, zones and timings are arranged so you focus on sightings, not admin.

TADOBA ANDHARI TIGER RESERVE: High tiger density, perennial lakes and bamboo thickets make Tadoba prime for big-cat encounters. Scan Tadoba Lake for mugger crocodiles and storks; watch bamboo edges for leopard and sloth bear. Your specialist team manages routes and shade breaks, keeping photography and comfort in balance across morning and afternoon safaris.

GOLDEN TRIANGLE HIGHLIGHTS: Old Delhi rickshaw lanes and Jama Masjid; Gatimaan Express to Agra for Agra Fort and sunrise Taj; road to Jaipur via Fatehpur Sikri, then Amer Fort, City Palace and Jantar Mantar. Smart sequencing trims backtracking and crowds, while expert guides add context, etiquette and reliable tastes along the way.

DAY 1

ARRIVAL IN MUMBAI

Land in Mumbai and meet our representative after immigration and baggage claim for a seamless transfer to your hotel (standard check-in 14:00). India’s most cosmopolitan city blends finance, film and fashion with neighbourhood temples and late-night cafés. Depending on arrival time, take it easy: a short seaside stroll, a rooftop drink, or simply rest. Your guide is on hand for money tips, dress codes for shrines and safe dining suggestions. A brief run-through this evening sets timings for tomorrow and highlights nearby.

Hotel Options:
Resort

President, Mumbai

Accommodation is designed for practical comfort and polished service, with well-appointed rooms and suites geared to busy touring days. Dining is a real strength, anchored by three signature restaurants—Thai Pavilion, Trattoria and Konkan Café—supported by a deli-style Qmin Shop and easy drinks at Wink.

For downtime, expect a pool and a spa/fitness set-up that makes late afternoons feel restorative after Mumbai traffic. The hotel also has sophisticated banquet spaces, which suits private dinners and small-group logistics when you need everything under one roof.

DAY 2

Mumbai

Explore the city’s big narratives and small details. Visit the Prince of Wales Museum (Mon closed) for sculpture, miniatures and trade routes in context, then Mani Bhawan, Gandhi’s Mumbai base and now an excellent museum. Continue to the Gateway of India and drive the curve of Marine Drive—“Queen’s Necklace”—towards Chowpatty. Expect contrasts: colonial façades, Art Deco blocks and busy bayside life. Your specialist can add a Khotachiwadi heritage lane, a Kala Ghoda gallery or a café pause, tuned to heat and crowds. Return to your hotel with dining options and an early night before tomorrow’s flight.

Meals Included: Breakfast

DAY 3

Pench National Park

Early transfer for the flight to Nagpur, then drive about two hours to Pench National Park. Check in and settle before an introductory briefing on habitats, zones and sighting etiquette. Pench’s teak forests and riverine meadows inspired The Jungle Book; key species include Bengal tiger, leopard, dhole and rich birdlife. Your naturalist explains how permits work, what to pack for cool mornings, and the rhythm of dawn and afternoon drives. After lunch, relax by the pool or take a short lodge nature walk if available. Dinner at the lodge with an outline of tomorrow’s safaris.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Hotel Options:
Resort

Pench Jungle Camp

Set on a private forested estate near Pench National Park, Pench Jungle Camp is a safari lodge designed to feel close to the wilderness—leafy, low-rise and unforced, with open spaces and an in-house lake that draws birdlife. Its position near the Turia Gate makes early departures straightforward while remaining pleasantly removed from the busier lodge strip.

Accommodation is split across 13 Luxury Safari Tents (around 670 sq ft including verandah), three Deluxe Safari Cottages, four Standard Safari Rooms and a Family Suite—pitched for comfort after drives, with verandahs and forest outlooks in many categories. Dining centres on a traditionally styled restaurant serving buffet/set menus, with the option of special outdoor meals when arranged.

Between safaris, guests can unwind by the pool, book spa and wellness treatments, or join on-site nature-led activities set up around the estate—ideal for families or anyone wanting more than game drives alone.

DAY 4

Pench National Park

Dawn and afternoon game drives in open jeeps with your driver-guide and lodge naturalist. Look for sambar and chital at waterholes, scanning for pugmarks, alarm calls and raptors circling thermals. Pench also supports sloth bear, jackal, crocodile and four protected vulture species; birders should watch for drongos and barbets. Between drives, return for breakfast and rest; lunch is timed to the park schedule. Your team manages gate timings and seating so you focus on the forest. Optional talk this evening on central India’s conservation challenges and community projects.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Pench Jungle Camp or similar

DAY 5

TADOBA

After breakfast, depart by road for Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (approx. 4 hours). Check in and refresh before a safety and spotting briefing. Maharashtra’s oldest national park combines teak woodland, bamboo thickets and perennial lakes, including Tadoba Lake—prime habitat for mugger crocodile and waterbirds. Tiger density is strong; sightings can be excellent in summer when wildlife congregates at water. Your naturalist will discuss likely routes, zone allocations and photography dos and don’ts. Enjoy an unhurried afternoon at the lodge to recover from the drive and prepare kit for tomorrow’s early start.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Tadoba Jungle Camp

Tadoba Jungle Camp Tadoba Jungle Camp is a forest lodge positioned near Moharli Gate—an easy base for wildlife days in and around Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve. The look is safari-lodge rather than flashy resort, with cottages built using indigenous materials and a layout that keeps you close to the trees.

Accommodation centres on Luxury Safari Cottages, with options such as elevated cottages featuring a private deck around ten feet up and wide-angle jungle views. Dining is relaxed but well run: breakfast and lunch are casual, with a more formal feel at dinner, led by the camp’s executive chef team.

Between drives, settle into the lodge rhythm—quiet time, poolside downtime, and guided touches that add atmosphere. A signature “Sundowner” takes you by open safari jeep to a lake/sunset point about 6 km away for panoramic views, snacks, and an evening start that feels properly wild.

DAY 6

TADOBA

Two focused safaris today, morning and afternoon, exploring contrasting zones. Scan lake margins for crocodile, storks and bee-eaters; in the bamboo, watch for leopard, sloth bear and, with luck, tiger on patrol. Smaller highlights include flying squirrel at dusk, rusty-spotted cat and rich butterfly life in season. Expect dust, cool starts and strong midday sun—your guide will pace stops and shade breaks. Return to the lodge between drives for breakfast, lunch and a swim or siesta. Optional night sky session after dinner if conditions are clear.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 7

New Delhi

After an unhurried breakfast, drive to Nagpur (about 2½ hours). Your guide coordinates timings and porterage for the evening flight to Delhi. On arrival, meet our Delhi representative for a smooth transfer and assisted hotel check-in. Delhi’s layered past—Mughal capitals, British planning and a modern hub—sets the scene for tomorrow. If you’d like to stretch your legs, we can suggest a short neighbourhood stroll or arrange a simple dinner nearby. Early night recommended after the travel day.

Meals Included: Breakfast

This afternoon contrasts New Delhi’s boulevards and monuments—Humayun’s Tomb and Sunder Nursery—followed by India Gate, Parliament and Rashtrapati Bhawan from the car. Set on Fatehabad Road in Agra, Grand Mercure Agra is a five-star property from Accor that nods to the city’s heritage. Many rooms are positioned for Taj-facing views, and the hotel sits by a metro station, making transfers straightforward. It works well for leisure stays and efficient tour stopovers.

Rooms start at around 32 m², with junior suites offering extra space. For downtime, head to the rooftop: there’s a swimming pool and a poolside restaurant with the Taj Mahal as your backdrop. Dining is rounded out by Lattice, the all-day restaurant, plus Bello Italiano—promoted as the only Italian restaurant in town.

We favour it on our Golden Triangle-style journeys because it supports early starts and clean logistics: sunrise at the Taj, breakfast afterwards, then a calm base for an afternoon reset before your next guide-led visit. It also suits small-group arrivals and departures, with several banquet spaces for private groups.

DAY 10

Jaipur

Rise early for the Taj Mahal at sunrise (closed Fri). Your specialist explains marble inlay, symmetry and the stories behind Shah Jahan and Mumtaz, then return for breakfast. Drive onwards to Jaipur, pausing at Fatehpur Sikri to walk Akbar’s red-sandstone courts and gateways; learn why the capital was short-lived and how design blended influences. Continue to Jaipur for check-in and downtime. Optional this evening: a film at Raj Mandir or the aarti at Birla Temple—both easy to add and time-checked to your energy levels. Your guide shares tomorrow’s plan and tips on bargaining, textiles and dress codes.

Meals Included: Breakfast

Hotel Options:

This afternoon visit the City Palace Museum—textiles, arms, miniatures—then Jantar Mantar’s giant astronomical instruments, which your guide will demonstrate in simple terms. Expect shade breaks, water top-ups and pacing that keeps gradients manageable. Optionally add a Pink Tuk-Tuk spin inside the old city or a short blue-pottery workshop visit to see glazing and motifs. Curated snack tips (lassi, samosa) are offered where safe and convenient.

The story

The India Tiger Safari Expedition was born from our deep-rooted passion for wildlife conservation and cultural heritage. At Asian Geographical, we believe responsible travel plays a vital role in protecting Indian wildlife and its diverse wildlife species, while also supporting indigenous traditions and community livelihoods.

Seeing the pressures on tiger populations first-hand shaped our resolve to create a journey that builds awareness and appreciation for these magnificent animals. In the forests of Pench and Tadoba, and other renowned tiger parks in India such as Ranthambore, we recognised the need for a tour that balances thrilling safaris with immersive cultural encounters. India’s wider conservation landscape matters too: Satpura National Park and Panna National Park offer distinctive wildlife safari experiences, including jungle excursions and, where permitted, night safaris. Pre-booking safaris and securing permits is essential, and we manage these details as part of a well-curated itinerary.

Working with local conservationists, expert guides and sustainable lodges, we designed an expedition that brings travellers close to Bengal tigers while supporting long-term biodiversity protection. More than an adventure, it is a commitment to safeguarding nature and ensuring these wild landscapes endure for future generations.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

JOURNEY STYLE, PACE & DAILY FLOW: This itinerary blends two distinct rhythms: focused wildlife mornings/afternoons in Central India, then classic North India heritage with well-paced city touring. Safari days start early and are structured around park timings, with a long mid-day rest built in; this is deliberate, as the heat and dust can be more tiring than the driving itself. Travel days include internal flights and overland sectors, so you’ll feel a few “transit” stretches—balanced by lighter afternoons and early nights when needed. Walking is generally easy to moderate at monuments, with occasional steps at forts and some standing time during site explanations.

SAFARIS: WHATS REALISTIC & HOW WE RUN THEM: Pench and Tadoba are both serious tiger landscapes, but sightings are never guaranteed; the experience is built around habitat reading, patience and time in the forest rather than a promise of a cat on cue. Drives are in open vehicles with a naturalist/driver-guide team; mornings are cool, afternoons warmer, and dust is common in the dry season. Photography is rewarding, but etiquette matters—quiet voices, controlled movement, and respecting distance improve both sightings and the wider conservation ethic. Expect strict gate times, zone allocations by permit, and occasional route changes on the day to match conditions.

COMFORT, CLIMATE & WHAT TO PACK DAY-TO-DAY: The key comfort variable is temperature swing. Early drives can be surprisingly cold, then quickly become hot by late morning; layering is essential, as is sun protection. Dust is part of Central India safari reality, so a light buff/scarf, sunglasses and a sealed day bag help. In the cities, heat and crowds can be more demanding than walking distance—particularly at the Taj and in Old Delhi—so breathable clothing, comfortable shoes and a calm approach to security checks make a noticeable difference. Hydration is treated as a priority throughout, especially on travel days and during monument touring.

GUIDES, FLIGHTS, TRAINS & SMOOTH TRANSITIONS: The tour involves multiple moving parts—domestic flights, long drives, rail sectors and early starts—and the purpose of the operating style is to keep each transition calm and predictable. Seats, boarding flow and luggage handling are managed on travel days so you are not negotiating stations or airports alone. City touring is led by specialist guides who time entrances, manage closed days (e.g., the Taj on Fridays), and filter out unwanted shopping pressure. In the parks, lodge naturalists brief you clearly on zones, routines and realistic viewing dynamics.

ACCOMMODATION, MEALS & FOOD CONFIDENCE: Accommodation is chosen for reliable comfort and service in each location, with lodges selected for their ability to deliver early safari logistics smoothly. Safari days are typically full-board or lodge-led dining because timings favour simplicity; city stays allow more flexibility, and your guide can curate dependable local dining or arrange reservations and transfers. If you enjoy food experiences, there is scope for safe, well-chosen snacks and tastings, but it remains optional and time-checked. Dietary needs are usually manageable in hotels; lodge kitchens can be more fixed, so advance notice helps ensure the right cadence and choices.
