Mandapa Ritz Carlton is a luxe jungle hideaway, set outside the centre of Ubud, central Bali. Spread along the banks of Ayung river valley, which cuts through Bali’s lush jungle and outlines the Mandapa, it comfortingly encapsulates the culture, history and heritage of Bali. Situated in a secluded location around an existing Hindu shrine, the resort emulates the temple porch (meaning ‘Mandap’), and unwittingly (or knowingly) shows the path through nature to wellness.
Surrounded by lush hills, the Ayung River and the verdant rice paddies, Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve offers just 60 villas and suites. Each have both traditional Balinese and contemporary interiors by renowned Asia-based DesignWilkes and an original Balinese painting by a local artist. Dining options include two elegant restaurants while private dining options include a natural setting of the river’s edge or in the middle of rice fields, or meal prepared in your private villa.
The Mandapa Spa, located on the sweeping Ayung River, offers tailored spiritual, health and wellness options with Balinese healing sessions. Guests can take a morning yoga class, bicycle through nearby villages or go whitewater rafting in the river. The hotel also organises signature tours to nearby interesting sites such as the Sebatu water temple and the historical Gunung Kawi or enjoy an unforgettable sunrise from one of Bali’s sacred volcanoes, Mount Batur.

When to go Bali’s climate is warm and humid, temperatures averaging between 21°C and 31°C. Short bursts of rain occur from November until April, making the velvet green landscape come alive. April to October is the dry season, although in hilly Ubud, you rarely feel too hot. Festival periods can get busier. In Ubud, however, you never feel the crowds. This is the advantage Ubud has over the south coast area that can get packed to bursting around August, Christmas and New Year.
