Amandari | Luxury Holidays in Bali, Indonesia | AsianGeographicalAdventures.com

Ubud, Bali

Amandari is a boutique rural retreat, located outside of Ubud, in the little village of Kedewatan, Central Bali. Nestled in the undulating hills and rice paddies wreathed in tropical flowers, Amandari is built along the lines of a small village, surrounded with nature and dominated by views of the luscious deep Ayung River gorge. The open-air lobby is reminiscent of a wantilan, a village meeting place surrounded with thatched-roofed villas and connected with river-stone walkways.

All of the 30 Amandari Suites and Villas have a sophisticated Balinese style; thatched roofs, tiled floors and sliding glass doors overlooking the lush forest and the valley below. Beds are hand-carved and adorned with finely-painted murals, while bathrooms have outdoor sunken marble bathtubs. Those wanting more space can splurge out on the decadent Amandari Villa, with three detached terrace-style bedrooms, a glass-walled living room and a two-tiered swimming pool.

Dining at the Amandari is in an open-air, teak framed pavilion, overlooking the beautifully lit swimming pool, serving delicious fresh local, Indonesian or Western cuisine. Recommended appetite building activities include hiking and mountain biking around the surrounded villages and visiting local temples, rafting in the Ayung River and playing tennis. For ultimate relaxation and spiritual healing visit the Amandari spa, offering massages and scrubs using local ingredients.

Amandari Ubud, Bali

Stay Amandari Ubud features just 30 standalone Suites and Villas. All are Balinese in style with thatched roofs, tiled floors and sliding glass doors opening up to lush garden courtyards. Suites have one or two detached bedrooms in single-storey or duplex, with views of the valley or rice terraces, while some feature private plunge pools. The Amandari Villa features three detached terrace-style bedrooms around a glass-walled living room and kitchen and serviced by two staff.

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at Amandari Ubud. All villas are spacious to accommodate at least one child and includes 4 hours of complimentary babysitting per day. Special child friendly activities can also be organised on request.

Dine Looking out over the swimming pool to the Ayung Valley, the open-air Amandari restaurant serves Western and Indonesian meals throughout the day. Meals are prepared with fresh ingredients sourced from local organic farms, including unconfined foraging pigs and free-range poultry. Picnic hamper or guests going on an excursion or a feast in a scenic location can be arranged. There is also a terrace-style bar offering spectacular views and a range of international beverages.

Relax Leisure services include a tranquil Amandari Spa, set near a lotus pond within the resort’s gardens featuring two open-air bales, a beauty room, sauna and marble steam room. There’s also a gorgeous crescent-shaped infinity pool, tucked-away tennis courts, and complimentary bicycles. Other activities include sunrise yoga classes, evening movie screenings and visits to local schools. Private yoga classes, guided meditation sessions or cooking classes can be arranged.

Experience Ubud is known for its beautiful landscapes dotted with Hindu temples and shrines. Within a short drive of Amandari is Bali’s longest pavilions at Pura Agung Gunung Raung, and the woodcarvings of Gunung Kawiv. A short hike leads you to the Taman Burung Bali Bird Park, home to over 250 tropical species. You can bike through its surrounding villages, traverse the area atop an elephant or plunge through unspoilt nature on a whitewater raft, past waterfalls and steep rock walls.

Location Located in the village of Kedewatan, on the fringe of Bali’s cultural capital, Ubud. Perched on an escarpment high above the winding Ayung River gorge, the resort follows the design of a traditional Balinese village. Bali is located at the heart of the Indonesian archipelago. Its north coast faces the Bali Sea, while the southern coast is lapped by the Indian Ocean.

Getting there 17-hour international flight (with one change in Singapore) to Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport, also known as Denpasar International Airport. Amandari is about 1-hour away from the airport.

When to go Straddling the equator, Indonesia tends to have a fairly even climate year-round. Rather than four seasons, Indonesia has two – dry (between May to September) and wet (between October to April) – and there are no extremes of temperature between winter and summer. In most parts of Indonesia, the wet season falls between October and April and the dry season between May and September. December and January see Bali at its most humid and rain tends to come in sudden tropical downpours, but it can also rain for more prolonged periods.
