Start your journey in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan’s capital, where east meets west. Upon arrival and after checking into your hotel, go on a guided city tour. Visit the Philharmonic House with the Statue of Manas, Central Square, Lenin’s statue, National Historical Museum and Museum of Fine Arts to see the extensive collection of Kyrgyz artifacts and artworks. At these museums and cultural sites, you’ll notice that many locals in Bishkek speak Russian as well as Kyrgyz, reflecting the country's diverse linguistic heritage. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant and get your first taste of Kyrgyz cuisine before retiring to your hotel.
Today you will drive to the beautiful Toktogul reservoir in the Suusamyr valley. The 4.5 hour drive offers stunning views and many photo opportunities. Stop for lunch in the charming Chichkan gorge. Continue to Toktogul and marvel at the reservoir and the surrounding hills. Spend the night in a family-run accommodation that offers an experience similar to a traditional camp, allowing you to enjoy the natural surroundings and authentic local hospitality.
Leave early and drive along the Naryn river to the Sary-Chelek Biosphere Reserve, passing the Toktogul reservoir. This route offers a great display of Kyrgyzstan’s natural beauty, from mountains to lakes. Your destination, Arkik village, is on the edge of the Sary-Chelek Biosphere Reserve and offers a chance to connect with nature and local life. Enjoy a home-cooked dinner and the hospitality of a family-run accommodation, and take the opportunity to interact with locals in Arkik village to gain insight into their daily life.
Explore the Sary-Chelek Biosphere Reserve and its stunning, pristine alpine lake, Sary-Chelek. Above 1,000 meters above sea level, this lake, known as the “Jewel in the Crown” of the reserve, is even more beautiful than the reserve’s 7 other lakes. Spend your day hiking on foot to explore five of these pristine lakes, each offering unique vistas and tranquil surroundings. Enjoy a picnic lunch amidst this breathtaking scenery. Return to Arkik village for a restful evening, dinner and another night of Kyrgyz hospitality.
Drive to Arslanbob, a village famous for having the world’s largest walnut forest, stretching over 200 km. The road to the village is as beautiful as the village itself, perfect for a picnic en route. Spend the afternoon walking around the village and the walnut forests surrounding it. Experience rural Kyrgyz life, the natural beauty of the area, and discover traditional life in the village and surrounding walnut forests. Overnight in Arslanbob in a family-run accommodation, to get a glimpse into local life.
Go horse riding in the beautiful forests around Arslanbob. This 4 hour ride takes you through the forest to a small sacred waterfall, perfect for a picnic lunch. Walk through the legendary walnut forests, a natural wonder that will transport you into nature. The day combines horse riding and the peace of the forest. Return to Arslanbob village in the evening, for dinner and another night in your local accommodation, or take the opportunity for camping in the forests or nearby natural areas for those seeking an immersive outdoor experience.
Drive from Arslanbob to Osh, Kyrgyzstan’s second largest city, 3 hours. Start the day with a scenic drive, stop for lunch in Jalalabad and visit the ancient Uzgen tower and mausoleums, remnants of the Karakhanid era, which have been visited by travelers from many countries along the Silk Road, to get a glimpse of the country’s history. Visit Uzgen’s bustling market to see the local culture and the daily exchange of goods. Arrive in Osh in the evening, have dinner at a local restaurant and overnight in a comfortable hotel.
After breakfast in Osh, take a flight back to Bishkek for your last day in Kyrgyzstan. Use this day to visit any missed sights in the capital. Bishkek with its mix of modern and Soviet-era architecture has many cultural and historical landmarks to see.
