Bishkek to Bishkek – 9 Days
Get into the heart of Central Asia with the “Kyrgyzstan Cultural Experience,” a full-on journey through Kyrgyzstan’s diverse landscapes and rich culture. Let this be your inspiration to explore one of the world's most impressive destinations, where every trip promises unforgettable memories. Starting in the lively capital city of Bishkek, you’ll experience the mix of modernity and tradition, exploring bustling bazaars, historic sites and the city’s artistic soul. Then the adventure moves to the peaceful Kyrgyz countryside where the majestic Issyk-Kul Lake, a stunning alpine lake, the green valleys of Karkara, and the timeless Karakol await, all set against breathtaking scenery.
Go deeper into the remote corners of Kyrgyzstan where the Suusamyr Valley and Song-Kul Lake, another pristine alpine lake, reveal the nomadic heart of the country and showcase traditional life. This trip lets you live in a yurt, try felt making, watch eagle hunting and more. From the Chon-Kemin Valley to the Burana Tower, this tour offers an in-depth exploration of Kyrgyzstan’s natural wonders and cultural heritage, making it an unforgettable journey through the gem of Central Asia. The striking mountain scenery and the world's most beautiful alpine lakes create a backdrop for adventure, while the weather can vary, so it's important to plan accordingly for outdoor activities.
TIAN SHAN MOUNTAIN ADVENTURES: Traverse the majestic Tian Shan mountain range on scenic drives and tranquil hikes. From alpine meadows to rugged gorges, this cultural tour lets you explore Kyrgyzstan’s natural wonders while staying in guesthouses and yurts. Spot snow-capped peaks, galloping horses and nomadic herders in one of Central Asia’s most spectacular landscapes.
NOMADIC LIFE AT SONG-KUL: This immersive cultural tour brings you into Kyrgyzstan’s nomadic traditions by Song-Kul Lake, nestled in the high mountains. Stay in a yurt, ride horses across vast pastures, and learn from local families and eagle hunters. Watch traditional games and enjoy authentic cuisine surrounded by stunning lake and mountain scenery.
CHON-KEMIN TO BURANA TOWER: Chon-Kemin Valley, framed by the Tian Shan mountains, is a highlight of many tours in Kyrgyzstan. Hike or ride horseback through remote trails, then visit the ancient Burana Tower – a relic of the Silk Road era. This route blends adventure, landscapes, and the cultural heart of Kyrgyz heritage.
TASH RABAT & ISSYK KUL ADD-ON: Enhance your Kyrgyzstan tour by extending to Tash Rabat, a remote 15th-century caravanserai, and Issyk Kul Lake, the ‘Pearl of Kyrgyzstan’. From high-altitude mystery to sparkling waters, these contrasting sites offer spiritual solitude and natural relaxation – ideal for those wanting to deepen their cultural and geographic experience.
The difference with the Asian Geographical is, that each of our holidays is designed with extreme precision of a mountaineering expedition.

This 9-day cultural tour of Kyrgyzstan explores mountain valleys, alpine lakes, and nomadic traditions. Journey through the Tian Shan range, visit Song-Kul and Issyk Kul, meet felt artists and eagle hunters, and stay in yurts. A perfect blend of nature, history, and authentic encounters on tours in Kyrgyzstan.
You start your journey as you land in Bishkek, one of the key cities along the Silk Road that combines its rich history with modernity. Upon arrival a guide will take you to your hotel and then you’ll begin to explore the city. Your tour will take you to the heart of Bishkek, starting at the Central Square, then to the Philharmonic House with the Statue of Manas, Lenin’s statue and the National Historical Museum, both reflecting the legacy of the Soviet Union in Bishkek’s architecture and history, and the Museum of Fine Arts. Finish the day with an immersive dinner at the “Supara” ethnic complex where traditional Kyrgyz cuisine meets cultural heritage, making it a great tour.
Visit the studio of Aidai Asangulova, a master feltmaker who weaves silk with traditional felting to create unique textiles. Then explore Kyrgyz craftsmanship at Tumar Studio where contemporary design meets traditional felt making, from decorative items to wearable art. After lunch, try local flavours by sampling traditional Kyrgyz meat dishes and enjoy a local drink such as kumyz to complement your meal, then delve into the world of Kyrgyz weaving with Gulmira Akmatova at the Kyrgyz Oimo studio. See firsthand the creation of beautiful ponchos, shawls, hats and scarves, each piece a testament to Kyrgyzstan’s textile heritage. The day ends in the peaceful valley of Chunkurchak, an hour away from the city. Snowy peaks, alpine meadows and streams.
Relax in Chunkurchak, a green jailoo where you can escape into nature. Summer is the ideal season to visit Chunkurchak for hiking and outdoor activities, as the weather is generally pleasant, though cool breezes can occur even during the warmer months. Spend the day hiking through meadows full of wildflowers, enjoying the fresh air while following mountain streams or horseback riding along the trails with stunning views, including snow still visible on distant peaks. For those who want to relax, Chunkurchak is the perfect place to meditate and connect with nature.
Leave Chunkurchak and head to the heart of Kyrgyzstan’s pastoral beauty, Suusamyr Valley, after lunch. The drive to Kyzyl-Oi village takes 4 hours. The road winds through Kara-Balta gorge, a 1.8 mile mountain tunnel and then opens up to the Suusamyr Valley. Along the way, we visited traditional Kyrgyz homes and scenic spots, providing a firsthand experience of local culture and landscapes. Photographic stops near flocks and Kyrgyz nomads will be along the way. Arrive in Kyzyl-Oi village and enjoy local dishes for lunch and then check in to a family-run accommodation for the night.
Leave Kyzyl-Oi village and drive to the peaceful Song-Kul Lake, a pristine alpine lake and the largest mountain lake and one of Kyrgyzstan’s natural wonders, 4.5 hours away. The lake’s pastures invite long hikes or horseback riding, and you can immerse yourself in the beauty and cool water. Experience the nomadic way of life, from milking cows to daily routines, and enjoy cultural activities such as meeting local eagle hunters. End the day with an authentic experience, spending the night in a traditional yurt at a yurt camp under the stars.
Full day at Song-Kul Lake. Horseback riding or hiking to discover the area’s biodiversity, yak herds and migratory birds. You can also climb nearby hills or ridges for panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Boat on the lake and meet local fishermen and learn about their craft. Watch or play Ulak Tartish, a game of Central Asia’s nomadic heritage played on horseback. Expect changing weather and a range of activities, from peaceful moments by the water to lively cultural encounters. Each day brings new scenery and experiences, making Song-Kul Lake a place of constant discovery. This day is to immerse in the natural beauty, culture and traditions of Song-Kul Lake and its people.
Drive to Kochkor after breakfast and visit local felt handicrafts, the backbone of Kyrgyz culture. Lunch in a local restaurant and then drive through Orto-Tokoi reservoir and Boom gorge and arrive in Chon-Kemin Valley, a highlight of many kyrgyzstan trips and holidays for those seeking authentic adventure and cultural immersion. Surrounded by the dramatic Tien Shan Mountains, enjoy dinner in a cozy guesthouse with local food and hospitality. Overnight in the guesthouse.
Morning in Chon-Kemin National Park, horseback riding or hiking through different landscapes, riversides and mountains, with the majestic Tian Shan range visible along the route. Lunch at the “Ashu” guesthouse and then start your return journey to Bishkek. Visit the Burana Tower on the way, a historical site of the Karakhanid era. This is a perfect opportunity to visit Kyrgyzstan and experience its unique blend of history and nature. End your holiday with a memorable farewell dinner in Bishkek and overnight in the hotel.
Morning. Check out from the hotel and airport transfer. Whether you are going home or to further travels, you leave with the history, culture and natural beauty of Kyrgyzstan, with stories and memories from a land of nomads and the heart of Central Asia.
The inspiration behind this journey through Kyrgyzstan lies in the country’s dramatic landscapes shaped by the Tian Shan mountain range and the enduring spirit of its nomadic culture. We wanted travellers to experience authentic connections—with the land, the people, and the ancient rhythms of high-altitude life. From yurt stays to horseback rides, the route was designed to immerse guests in this way of life.
Equally, we were inspired by Kyrgyzstan’s deep cultural heritage, seen in every felt artwork, culinary tradition, and mountain settlement. Sites like Tash Rabat, an ancient Silk Road caravanserai, symbolise the region’s historical significance and the resilience of trade routes across remote terrain. Meeting local artists and eagle hunters brings these traditions to life in a deeply personal way.
Finally, we included iconic landscapes such as Issyk Kul Lake and valleys like Chon-Kemin to ensure a balance of nature and culture. This is not just a scenic holiday, but a meaningful cultural tour through the soul of Kyrgyzstan.
