GATEWAY TO MONGOLIA: Your Mongolia adventure tour starts in Ulaanbaatar, a vibrant capital where ancient traditions meet modernity. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel and meet your local guide. In the afternoon visit Sukhbaatar Square, the city’s historic heart surrounded by the Parliament House, State Opera and Ballet Theatre and Cultural Palace. Visit the National Museum of Mongolian History where you can see the country’s history from prehistoric times to present. End the day at Gandan Monastery, the largest Buddhist monastery in Mongolia and an important spiritual centre. In the evening enjoy an optional welcome dinner and try some traditional Mongolian cuisine before overnight stay in a comfortable hotel.

KHARKHORIN

ANCIENT MONGOL CAPITAL (380 KM): Drive to Kharkhorin, the former capital of the Mongol Empire founded in 1220 in the Orkhon Valley. This city was the heart of the empire until Kublai Khan moved the capital to Beijing. Visit Erdenezuu Monastery, Mongolia’s oldest surviving Buddhist monastery built in 1586 on the ruins of Kharkhorin. See the beautiful Buddhist art, religious relics and Tibetan-Mongolian iconography as your guide explains its history and spiritual significance. Tonight experience nomadic life with an overnight stay in a traditional ger camp and get a true taste of Mongolia’s heritage.

DAY 3

ONGI MONASTERY

EXPERIENCE NOMADIC CULTURE (300 KM): Drive to the Middle Gobi where the sacred ruins of Ongi Monastery stand as a testament to Mongolia’s past. Founded in 1660 this once grand monastery was destroyed during the Communist purges.Along the way enjoy a Mongolian BBQ lunch with a nomadic family and experience their hospitality, customs and traditions. This will give you a deeper insight into Mongolia’s pastoral heritage. After Ongi River valley settle in for the night at a ger camp surrounded by the vast and rugged Gobi Desert.

DAY 4

BAYANZAG

THE FLAMING CLIFFS (250 KM): Drive into the heart of the Gobi Desert and arrive at Bayanzag, also known as the Flaming Cliffs. These red rock formations shaped over 60 million years are one of the world’s most important paleontological sites. It was here in the 1920s that the first dinosaur eggs and fossils were discovered and changed our understanding of prehistoric life. Walk through the dramatic landscapes surrounded by Saxaul tree forests and take in the breathtaking desert scenery. Your guide will explain the site’s geological and paleontological importance. As night falls enjoy an overnight stay in a ger camp under the star-lit Gobi sky.

DAY 5

KHONGORIIN ELS

THE SINGING DUNES OF THE GOBI (180 KM): Drive deeper into the Gobi Desert to see the amazing Khongoriin Els Sand Dunes stretching 180 km and 200 metres high. Known as the “Singing Dunes” the wind-carved sands make an eerie sound as they move with the wind. Experience Mongolia’s nomadic traditions by riding a Bactrian camel, often called “Living Dinosaurs” by locals. Cross the golden dunes and see the Khongor River, a vital water source for desert nomads. After a day of adventure return to your ger camp and relax and unwind in the desert.

DAY 6

YOL VALLEY

THE FROZEN CANYON OF THE GOBI (180 KM): Enter Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park, Mongolia’s largest protected area. Today’s highlight is Yol Valley, an extraordinary narrow canyon where ice remains frozen even in summer. Walk through the valley surrounded by cliffs and dramatic landscapes and see the wildlife. Visit the Fauna and Flora Museum and learn about the region’s rare species and fragile ecosystem. Have a picnic lunch in the surreal landscape and then settle in for the night at a ger camp and reflect on the diverse landscapes you have seen so far on your Mongolia tour.

DAY 7

BAGA GAZRYN CHULUU

HIDDEN WONDERS OF THE GOBI (420 KM): After breakfast drive to Dundgobi Province and the dramatic rock formations of Baga Gazryn Chuluu rising from the vast arid plains. This geological wonder often called the Stone of Malaya Zemlya features basalt and granite formations sculpted by nature over millions of years. As you drive enjoy the sweeping views of the semi-dry steppe, scattered with sacred historical sites and rock formations. Stop for lunch in Mandalgovi, the provincial capital and then continue to your campsite. As night falls experience the wilderness under Mongolia’s vast sky.

Terelj National Park

CHINGGIS KHAAN STATUE & SCENIC LANDSCAPES (310 KM): Drive to Terelj National Park, one of Mongolia’s most beautiful and ecologically rich regions. En route visit the Chinggis Khaan Statue Complex, home to the world’s largest equestrian statue, a 40-metre stainless steel monument to Mongolia’s legendary ruler. From the viewing platform take in the panoramic views of the Mongolian steppe. Upon arrival in Terelj National Park explore its natural wonders including Melkhii Khad (Turtle Rock) and the Aryapala Buddhist Meditation Temple with stunning hilltop views. After a traditional Mongolian lunch at a yurt camp settle into the eco-friendly Guru Camp surrounded by wilderness.

Ulaanbaatar

A DAY AT LEISURE (60 KM): Return to Ulaanbaatar and have a free day to explore at your own pace. Optional activities include a traditional Mongolian throat-singing performance, shopping for Mongolian cashmere or a luxury spa experience. This is your last day to relax before the excitement of the Naadam Festival begins.

NAADAM FESTIVAL – MONGOLIA’S BIGGEST CELEBRATION: The main event of this Mongolia Expedition starts today! The Naadam Festival, also known as the “Three Manly Games”, is a centuries-old tradition where Mongolia’s warrior spirit is showcased through wrestling, horse racing and archery. Watch the opening ceremony with cultural performances, parades and music. Try traditional Mongolian food including the famous khuushuur (fried meat pastries) which is a festival favourite. As night falls experience the electric atmosphere of Ulaanbaatar’s central square where fireworks and street parties fill the city with national pride.

HORSE RACING: The Naadam Festival continues with the horse racing. Young jockeys, some as young as five, show off their skills racing across the Mongolian steppe. Today’s highlights include the Soyolon race (five-year-old horses) and the Daaga race (two-year-old horses) testing the endurance and agility of Mongolia’s best horses. In the afternoon return to Central Stadium for the final rounds of Mongolian wrestling where competitors battle for the championship title. Feel the festival’s energy as locals cheer on their champions and celebrate Mongolia’s warrior heritage.
