Taj Lake Palace – Floating Luxury in Udaipur

Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur, is a luxury hotel that sits exclusively in the middle of Lake Pichola. Set against the backdrop of the majestic Aravalli Hills on one side, and regal palaces on the other, the Taj Lake Palace spreads across a four-acre island – like an almost surreal vision in marble. Conceived by a Mewar prince, Maharana Jagat Singh II, as a pleasure palace in the 18fth-century, has turned into one of the most romantic hotels in the world.

Inside the Taj Lake Palace, scenic courtyards are filled with lily-filled ponds, and indoor spaces with period pieces and extravagant embellishments. The palatial 83 standard Luxury and deluxe Palace rooms with high ceiling, feature marble bathrooms, well-crafted furniture and fabulous views overlooking the lake and the Aravalli mountains. A handful of suites are delicately restored with antique furnishings, inlaid with pearls and gemstones, bohemian crystal lights and intricate miniature paintings.

Despite being set on a small island, the Taj Lake Palace has plenty of facilities, including three restaurants, offering both Indian and international cuisine, and the stylish Amrit Sagar bar, with a wide range of vintage wines & spirits. There is a beautiful swimming pool and Jiva spa offers classic remedies in the backdrop of the stunning Aravalli mountains. The hotel concierge can arrange cultural excursions to explore Udaipur and the surrounding area.

Stay The Taj Lake Palace hotel has 83 rooms and suites. Palatial in style, the rooms and suites feature opulent silks, richly coloured murals and ornately carved furniture and have stunning views of the lake, city or mountains. The standard Luxury Rooms and the spacious Palace Rooms have high ceilings which creates an environment of luxury. Royal Suites are graced with impeccable interiors and delicate stained-glass windows. Suites feature a King size bed and an extra sitting room, with panoramic views of the lake and city palace from bedroom, sitting room and even the bathroom.

ChildCare Children are welcome to stay at the Taj Lake Palace but there are no specific facilities available for them. However, items like toiletries for children and some game items are provided. Babysitting can be arranged upon request.

Dine The fine-dining three restaurants and bar at Taj Lake Palace are for the exclusive pleasure of resident guests. Neel Kamal offers authentic flavours of the royal cuisine of Udaipur, as well as signature dishes from north India. At Bhairo, the seasonal rooftop restaurant, you can treat your senses to exquisite contemporary European cuisine. Jharokha, is an informal all-day-dining restaurant that offers an array of delicacies from all over the world. And Amrit Sagar, aptly named ‘sea of nectar’, offers a selection of vintage wines and spirits.

Relax For those who want to have fun outdoors; horse riding and wildness trekking is available nearby. For those who want to relax, Taj Lake Palace offers Jiva Spa treatments. Alternatively, take a quiet Heritage Champagne Walk through the historic palace or a shopping excursion in vintage car from the royal fleet followed on heel by your Royal butler. Like the honoured companions of the Maharana of days past, all guests enjoy the kind of luxurious living until then reserved only for the official of the highest courts.

Experience Dining experiences at the Taj Lake Palace is not restricted to traditional settings. The Royal Butlers can create magical dining moments wherever you desire; whether it is a romantic dinner by the Lily Pond, on the Mewar Terrace with scenic views of the lake or the marigold-decked royal barge. The hotel can also organise cultural excursions to explore Udaipur and the surrounding area.

Location Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur, is a luxury hotel that sits exclusively in the middle of Lake Pichola. Legend has it that it was conceived by a Mewar prince, Maharana Jagat Singh II, believed to be descendant of the Sun God. But what may have served for him as a pleasure palace in the 18fth-century, has turned into one of the most romantic hotels in the world.

Getting There Most major airlines fly to India’s main airports. Delhi is the best point of arrival for Rajasthan and north India. Maharana Pratap Airport (UDR) more popularly known as Dabok airport, Udaipur is well connected to New Delhi and Mumbai. Flying time from Udaipur to Delhi is 1 hour and 15-minutes and from Udaipur to Mumbai is 1-hour and 30-minutes, followed by a 5-minute boat ride from the shores of Lake Pichola.

When to go Rajasthan, the desert state of India is largely hot but unlike the rest of India, has a much longer tourist season. Summer in Rajasthan extends from April to June and is the hottest season. Monsoon arrives in July and extends until September, is a good time to travel to Rajasthan, since it never rains there. Post monsoon, October to November and right through winter months of December to March are perfect for travelling through Rajasthan.
