Taj Lake Palace – Floating Luxury in Udaipur

Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur, is a luxury hotel that sits exclusively in the middle of Lake Pichola. Set against the backdrop of the majestic Aravalli Hills on one side, and regal palaces on the other, the Taj Lake Palace spreads across a four-acre island – like an almost surreal vision in marble. Conceived by a Mewar prince, Maharana Jagat Singh II, as a pleasure palace in the 18fth-century, has turned into one of the most romantic hotels in the world.

Inside the Taj Lake Palace, scenic courtyards are filled with lily-filled ponds, and indoor spaces with period pieces and extravagant embellishments. The palatial 83 standard Luxury and deluxe Palace rooms with high ceiling, feature marble bathrooms, well-crafted furniture and fabulous views overlooking the lake and the Aravalli mountains. A handful of suites are delicately restored with antique furnishings, inlaid with pearls and gemstones, bohemian crystal lights and intricate miniature paintings.

Despite being set on a small island, the Taj Lake Palace has plenty of facilities, including three restaurants, offering both Indian and international cuisine, and the stylish Amrit Sagar bar, with a wide range of vintage wines & spirits. There is a beautiful swimming pool and Jiva spa offers classic remedies in the backdrop of the stunning Aravalli mountains. The hotel concierge can arrange cultural excursions to explore Udaipur and the surrounding area.

Location Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur, is a luxury hotel that sits exclusively in the middle of Lake Pichola. Legend has it that it was conceived by a Mewar prince, Maharana Jagat Singh II, believed to be descendant of the Sun God. But what may have served for him as a pleasure palace in the 18fth-century, has turned into one of the most romantic hotels in the world.

Getting There Most major airlines fly to India’s main airports. Delhi is the best point of arrival for Rajasthan and north India. Maharana Pratap Airport (UDR) more popularly known as Dabok airport, Udaipur is well connected to New Delhi and Mumbai. Flying time from Udaipur to Delhi is 1 hour and 15-minutes and from Udaipur to Mumbai is 1-hour and 30-minutes, followed by a 5-minute boat ride from the shores of Lake Pichola.

When to go Rajasthan, the desert state of India is largely hot but unlike the rest of India, has a much longer tourist season. Summer in Rajasthan extends from April to June and is the hottest season. Monsoon arrives in July and extends until September, is a good time to travel to Rajasthan, since it never rains there. Post monsoon, October to November and right through winter months of December to March are perfect for travelling through Rajasthan.
