47 Jobner Bagh is a stylish and boutique guesthouse, located in central Jaipur. Shiva Gujar, who earlier had a successful jewellery business, worked with the late Italian architect Paola Giacomini to create this charming retreat, filling the gap in Jaipur’s hotel industry which had either restored palaces or simple guesthouses. Situated just beyond the edge of the old walled city, in what was once the garden of the Maharajah of Jobner, it offers both luxury and a homestay experience.
Built in the late 17th-century, 47 Jobner Bagh offers just 11-bedrooms with its whitewashed, curved jali walls and wide terraces. Inside, the simple, sunlit interiors are furnished with regional Rajasthani antiques and vintage Indian pieces. Friendly staff serve fresh lime and soda or nimbu pani and tea with snacks during the day. Evenings are spent on the terrace overlooking the neighbouring town and the Nahalgarh Fort.
Delicious home-cooked meals comprising of regional dishes and Indian specialities are supervised by Shiva's wife Anita and served on the terrace or in the gardens. City sightseeing tours can be easily organised by staff at the 47 Jobner Bagh and include highlights such as Amer Fort, Hawa Mahal, City Palace, the 18th-century Jantar Mantar or outdoor observatory. For relaxation, there is Dr Upal's small spa offering Ayruvedic and aromatherapy massages as well as yoga classes.
