Alila Fort Bishangarh is a luxury, boutique hotel, set atop a granite hill in the small village of Bishangarh near Jaipur. Built inside the 230-year-old fort, this beautiful, raw old heritage property has undergone a painstaking seven-year restoration project. Polished anew, the powerful edifice, displays an unornamented façade with some turrets and windows painted in the original red-ochre colour that links it back to its original style. The result is a miracle of passion and sheer splendour.
With only 59 suites, Alila Fort Bishangarh is a perfect place for a tranquil retreat in a striking setting. All rooms are spacious with large traditional Rajasthani style arched windows used primarily in palaces and regal in style. The décor is clean and uncluttered with ancient metal ‘jaalis’ screens, antique brass artefacts and block printed fabrics. Four gourmet restaurants offer a range of cuisines inspired by traditional Rajasthani, Silk Route and Hunter’s ancient recipes.
There are plenty of facilities at Alila Fort Bisangarh including the Alila Spa offering a range of remedies by experienced therapists. There’s also an organic garden, a fruit orchard and a greenhouse set up amidst the ravines as well as various green lounging areas to explore. Other activities include private cooking classes and food trails to biking and horse riding. One day, take a city tour of Jaipur to see its forts and palaces including the majestic UNESCO site of Amber Fort.
