Suján Rajmahal Palace is a contemporary boutique hotel, set in the heart of Jaipur city. Owned by the royal family of Jaipur, it was once the British Residency and then a private home of the last Maharajah of Jaipur and his glamorous wife Gayatri Devi. It has hosted the Queen and Prince Philip as well as Jackie Onassis, Lord and Lady Mountbatten. Now painstaking restored, this small Art Deco structure makes a bold contemporary take on Indian palatial style and Rajput grandeur.
Built in the 1720s and now exquisitely restored, Suján Rajmahal Palace houses just 15 spacious rooms and suites. Expect vibrant patterned wallpapers, traditional Indian artworks, crystal chandeliers, silk cushions and antique glass vases holding fresh rose petals. Reminiscent of English Georgian architecture, the palace has been transformed but original features remain from the Mughal era; mirrored doors and ceilings and an original marble staircase.
Three dining options at Suján Rajmahal Palace offer a choice of contemporary Indian and western cuisine prepare by Relais and Châteaux trained chefs. For relaxation there is a regal Art Deco swimming pool surrounded by manicured gardens and Suján Spa offering a range of massages. In the surrounds is the fabled Pink City where guests spend most of their day exploring forts and palaces and shopping for gems, hand printed paper or miniature paintings.
