Group Tour
Tbilisi to Tbilisi - 11 Days
This 11-day small-group journey links the cultural heart of Georgia with the spiritual and artistic heritage of Armenia. We run the smallest groups in the industry, with an exceptionally low guest-to-guide ratio, for a more personal, low-impact travel style and access to quieter, more remote places—often leading to closer, more natural wildlife moments where nature is part of the journey.
You’ll begin with a deep introduction to Tbilisi—its Old Town lanes, landmark churches and lively café culture—then branch out to explore Georgia’s defining layers: ancient cave towns, early Christian monuments, and the wine traditions of Kakheti, brought to life through local craft and home-hosted experiences.
Crossing into Armenia, the focus shifts to monasteries, manuscripts and enduring landscapes, from UNESCO-listed sacred sites to countryside communities where food traditions are shared at the source. Days combine guided touring with scenic drives, varied architecture, and time to absorb the atmosphere in both capitals. With expert local guides, private transport and a manageable group size, this is a well-rounded Caucasus experience—history, hospitality and living culture—without the complexity of three-country logistics.
Note: Book Now and take advantage of the early bird discount: £150 pp.
TBILISI OLD TOWN WALKING TOUR: Explore Tbilisi largely on foot, where the city’s character is best felt at street level. Begin in the sulphur-baths quarter and weave through Old Town lanes that reveal a rare mix of faiths and communities living side by side—Georgian Orthodox and Armenian churches, a synagogue and a mosque within a compact area. Continue to landmark viewpoints at Narikala and the riverside setting of Metekhi, then shift to the city’s contemporary pulse along Shardeni Street and Rustaveli Avenue with its theatres, galleries and cafés. The day finishes with dinner and a folk dance performance, offering a lively introduction to Georgian hospitality and culture.
KAKHETI WINE REGION EXPERIENCE: Spend a day in Kakheti, Georgia’s iconic wine region, with a focus on tradition rather than just drinking. Visit a local мастер’s studio to see how qvevri—large clay vessels buried underground—are made and used for fermentation and storage, followed by tastings of home-made wines. Continue to the beautifully sited Alaverdi Cathedral, then enjoy a long lunch in a local home, accompanied by Georgian songs that turn a meal into a cultural exchange. Later, stroll the hilltop town of Sighnaghi, framed by 18th-century walls and wide valley views, before visiting Bodbe Monastery, a significant Georgian pilgrimage site.
KAZBEGI AND GERGETI TRINITY CHURCH: Take one of the Caucasus’ great mountain drives, heading north from Tbilisi with stops at Ananuri Fortress and the turquoise Jinvali Reservoir. The landscape opens into higher valleys as you approach Kazbegi, with opportunities to browse local craft stalls along the route. From Kazbegi, switch to 4×4 vehicles for the climb to Gergeti Trinity Church, perched above the valley in a spectacular position. The setting delivers the classic Georgia image: a solitary church against vast mountain backdrops, with weather-dependent views towards glaciers and high peaks.
ARMENIA UNESCO HERITAGE: Armenia’s touring combines major sacred sites with hands-on cultural moments that make the history feel lived rather than observed. Visit UNESCO-listed landmarks including Zvartnots and Etchmiadzin, then explore Armenia’s distinctive blend of pagan and Christian heritage at Garni and Geghard. A highlight is the visit to a local home to prepare lavash, Armenia’s thin national bread baked in a traditional tonir oven—recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage. Sharing a simple lunch of lavash and cheese with your hosts turns a well-known staple into a personal experience.
The difference with the Asian Geographical is, that each of our holidays is designed with extreme precision of a mountaineering expedition.
A 11-day small-group journey through Georgia and Armenia, designed for travellers who want culture, heritage and local life in depth. With expert local guides and private transport, you’ll explore atmospheric capitals with Asian Geographical experts. Expect a mix of UNESCO-listed sites, craft experiences with local hosts, and scenic drives that reveal the Caucasus beyond the cities.
Arrive in Georgia and meet your representative at Tbilisi Airport for a private transfer to your hotel. After check-in, the rest of the day is kept light to help you settle in after travel. Depending on arrival time, you may choose an easy stroll nearby to get your bearings—Tbilisi’s café culture and relaxed evening atmosphere make it a pleasant first impression. Your guide can advise simple local options for dinner and an early night if you prefer, ready for the city tour tomorrow.
Rooms Hotel Tbilisi
Housed in a former publishing house in Vera, Rooms Hotel Tbilisi is one of the capital’s most distinctive design stays, a short walk from Rustaveli Avenue and well placed for cafés, galleries and nightlife. It has a lived in, local energy, with a lobby scene that feels as popular with Tbilisi residents as it is with travellers.
Interiors are intentionally moody and tactile: dark wood floors, rich leather, vintage lighting and handmade wallpaper, balanced with modern comforts and strong soundproofing for a genuinely good night’s sleep. The overall tone is relaxed and confident rather than formal.
Food and drink are a key part of the stay, anchored by The Kitchen and a lively bar lounge for easy breakfasts, late lunches and evening cocktails. Step out for the Dry Bridge market and Old Town walks, then return for a calmer night in a neighbourhood that feels stylish, central and quietly authentic.
After breakfast, explore Tbilisi mostly on foot, starting in the Old Town where the sulphur-baths quarter anchors the city’s story. Visit a close-knit cluster of places of worship—Georgian Orthodox and Armenian churches, a synagogue and a mosque—reflecting Tbilisi’s long tradition of coexistence. Continue to signature landmarks: the vast Sameba Cathedral, cliff-top Metekhi Church above the Mtkvari River, and the ancient Narikala Fortress for panoramic views. Wander Shardeni Street for galleries and cafés, then visit Anchiskhati, the city’s oldest church. Finish along Rustaveli Avenue, lined with theatres and civic buildings. Dinner is at a local restaurant with a folk dance performance.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Drive out after breakfast to Uplistsikhe, a remarkable rock-hewn city inhabited from early times into the medieval era. Walk through carved streets and chambers that once functioned as homes, shops, wine spaces and public buildings, including a theatre area, giving a vivid sense of a city shaped from stone. Continue to nearby Gori for the Stalin Museum, then travel to Mtskheta, Georgia’s ancient religious capital. Visit Jvari Church and the grand Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, a major 11th-century church at the heart of Georgian Christianity, traditionally linked to the robe of Christ. Both are UNESCO-listed and central to Georgia’s spiritual heritage. Return to Tbilisi for the night.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch
Head east into Kakheti, Georgia’s celebrated wine region, where vineyard landscapes and village traditions define the day. Begin with a visit to a local мастер’s studio to learn how qvevri—large clay jars buried underground—are made and used for traditional winemaking, followed by a tasting of home-produced wines. Continue to the beautifully sited Alaverdi Cathedral, set in the valley with the Greater Caucasus as backdrop. Lunch is in a local home and accompanied by Georgian songs, adding a personal, cultural layer to the day. In the afternoon, visit Sighnaghi, a hilltop walled town with sweeping views over the Alazani Valley, then stop at Bodbe Monastery before returning to Tbilisi.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch
After breakfast, drive north towards Kazbegi on one of Georgia’s most scenic routes, with the landscape shifting from valleys to high mountain viewpoints. Stop at Ananuri Fortress and the striking Jinvali Reservoir, then pause along the way at small roadside stalls showcasing local crafts such as feltwork, embroidery and icon-style painting. Continue to Kazbegi (Stepantsminda), the region’s main town, and switch to 4×4 vehicles for the ascent to Gergeti Trinity Church, dramatically positioned above the valley. Weather permitting, enjoy views towards the glacier and peak of Mount Kazbegi. Return to Tbilisi by evening.

Travel through the green Debed region to visit two outstanding monastic complexes from the 10th–14th centuries. Begin at Haghpat Monastery, a UNESCO-listed masterpiece set on an uneven plateau above a deep river cleft—once a major religious, cultural and educational centre of medieval Armenia. Continue to Akhtala Monastery, known for its distinctive character and impressive setting. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant during the day’s touring, then continue onwards to Yerevan. Arrive and check in for the night.

Tufenkian Historic Yerevan Hotel
Tufenkian Historic Yerevan Hotel is a designed, heritage inspired stay in Kentron, centrally placed near Republic Square and the Vernissage arts and crafts market—ideal for a walkable city break with museums, cafés and evening strolls on your doorstep.
The hotel’s personality comes from its Armenian craft focus: natural materials (basalt stone, metal, wool) and interiors accented with Tufenkian carpets, creating a warm, authentic feel rather than a generic international look. Accommodation is described as 83 rooms, suited to couples and small groups who value character and comfort in equal measure.
Onsite, Kharpert Restaurant is known for Western Armenian flavours, and there’s a seasonal outdoor pool for downtime between sightseeing. It’s a strong mid to upper option for travellers wanting style, location and a sense of place.
Today is a guided introduction to Yerevan, often called the “Pink City” for the warm-toned stone used across its architecture. Explore the main landmarks including Republic Square, Mashtots Avenue, and the Opera and Ballet Theatre, then continue to the Cascade park complex for open-air terraces and city views. Visit the Matenadaran, Armenia’s celebrated manuscript repository, which holds an extraordinary collection of ancient texts and illuminated works. Later, visit Tsitsernakaberd, the Genocide Memorial and museum—an important and moving national site that provides essential context to modern Armenian identity. Lunch is taken during the day’s visits.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch
After breakfast, drive to Khor Virap Monastery, a pivotal Armenian pilgrimage site associated with Gregory the Illuminator’s imprisonment and the country’s Christian conversion. The location is also prized for its sweeping views of Mount Ararat, Armenia’s enduring national symbol. Continue to the Areni wine region and visit Areni Cave, where remarkably ancient artefacts have been discovered, including what’s often cited as the world’s oldest known leather shoe. Then travel to Noravank Monastery, dramatically framed by sheer red-rock cliffs in a winding gorge and notable for its distinctive stonework and rare iconography. Lunch is hosted in a local home, adding a personal window into rural Armenian hospitality. Return to Yerevan for the night.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch
After breakfast, set out to two of Armenia’s most important early Christian sites, both UNESCO-listed. Begin at Zvartnots, the evocative remains of a 7th-century cathedral complex built under Catholicos Nerses the Builder, where the ruins still convey the ambition of the original structure. Continue to Etchmiadzin, the spiritual centre of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the seat of the Catholicos. Visit the cathedral precinct and the museum, where revered relics are displayed, including an item traditionally linked to Noah’s Ark. Return to Yerevan in the afternoon. This evening, enjoy dinner at a stylish Armenian restaurant with folk music—a relaxed finale to a heritage-rich day.

Continue to Geghard Monastery, a spiritual complex partly carved into rock and long associated with the relic of the sacred lance. Afterwards, visit a local home to see and join the preparation of lavash, Armenia’s thin national bread baked in a traditional tonir oven, followed by a simple lunch of lavash and cheese. In the afternoon, drive to Lake Sevan for expansive views and visit Sevanavank Monastery on the peninsula. Return to Yerevan for the night.

Enjoy a gentle morning stroll, then visit Parz Lake, a small, scenic spot surrounded by woodland; if you wish, there’s the option of a short boat ride. Continue to Goshavank Monastery, set in a beautiful natural corner and named after the medieval scholar Mkhitar Gosh. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant before beginning the return journey to Georgia. Cross the border after formalities (Bagratashen/Sadakhlo area) and continue to Tbilisi for the night.

The vision for the Caucasus Discovery Tour was inspired by a deep appreciation for regions where nature, culture, and history blend seamlessly. At Asian Geographical, our commitment to heritage preservation and sustainable tourism drives us to craft journeys that celebrate the world’s most remarkable landscapes and traditions.
Travelling through the Caucasus, we were captivated by its untamed mountains, medieval monasteries, and vibrant cultural heritage. From Azerbaijan’s Silk Road legacy to Georgia’s ancient winemaking traditions and Armenia’s monastic wonders, the region holds stories that deserve to be shared. However, as modernisation threatens architectural treasures and traditional ways of life, we recognised the need to create a journey that not only immerses travellers in the authentic beauty of the Caucasus but also contributes to sustainable travel initiatives.
The Caucasus Discovery Tour is a tribute to the region’s resilient cultures, pristine landscapes, and rich biodiversity, offering travellers an authentic experience while actively supporting local conservation efforts.
GROUP, SUPPORT STAFF & TRIP STYLE: This is a small-group cultural tour across Georgia and Armenia, led by expert local guides with private driver/vehicle support. Expect a relaxed, experience-led pace: mostly guided walking tours in the cities, plus easy site walks and viewpoints on day trips. There are a couple of longer touring days and border crossings (with guide/vehicle change), so timings can shift due to traffic and formalities. A highlight is the mountain day towards Kazbegi, including a 4×4 excursion to reach the hilltop church viewpoint. Your guide manages logistics, entry timings, cultural etiquette and daily pacing.
ACCOMMODATION, MEAL PLAN, FOOD & WATER: Accommodation is in comfortable hotels in Tbilisi and Yerevan. Rooms are typically twin-share; single rooms may be available with a supplement, subject to availability. Meals follow the itinerary (B/L/D where listed), including a dinner with folk performance in Tbilisi and a dinner with folk music in Yerevan. Several lunches are included, including home-hosted meals (e.g., Kakheti and Armenia) and food experiences such as lavash baking. When meals are not included, your guide will recommend good local options. Drink sealed bottled water; tap-water standards vary by area.
ALTITUDE, HEALTH & VACCINATIONS: This is not a trekking itinerary, but the day trip towards Kazbegi/Gergeti reaches higher elevation and involves winding mountain roads. Some travellers notice mild effects (shortness of breath on steps, fatigue) or motion sickness; take it steadily, stay hydrated, and bring any medication you rely on. For churches and monasteries, dress respectfully (shoulders and knees covered is the safest approach). Vaccination guidance depends on your medical history and current recommendations—consult a travel health professional in good time.
SPENDING MONEY, CURRENCY & TIPPING: You’ll use two currencies: Georgian lari (GEL) and Armenian dram (AMD). Cards are widely accepted in Tbilisi and Yerevan, but cash is useful for small purchases, craft stalls, and rural stops. ATMs are readily available in cities. Tipping is customary and appreciated for guides and drivers; your guide can advise practical local norms and help coordinate tips if the group prefers to pool them.
PASSPORTS, VISAS, BAGGAGE, CLIMATE & INSURANCE: You are responsible for meeting entry requirements. British citizens can visit Georgia visa-free for up to one year. British citizens can visit Armenia visa-free for up to 180 days in a year (tourism/business). This itinerary includes a land border crossing between Georgia and Armenia (via the Bagratashen/Sadakhlo area), with border formalities on the day. Pack light for easy hotel check-ins and border days; comfortable walking shoes are important for cobbled streets and uneven heritage sites. Weather can vary between city heat and cooler mountain air—layering and a light waterproof are sensible. Travel insurance is strongly recommended (and should cover medical treatment and any independent activities you choose).
