Raffles Angkor – Historic Luxury Hotel in Siem Reap

Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor’s imposing facade gives way to a marble lobby, connected by Art Deco black-and-white tiled halls. The main building is built in a beautiful French colonial style with public spaces that have been renovated in a contemporary way, sympathetic to the buildings heritage. It’s Grand Restaurant offers formal fine dining experience in Royal Khmer and Western cuisine. And, its Elephant Bar is not to be missed for its signature rum based cocktails.

Inside, the rooms and suites at Raffles Grand Hotel D'Angkor are newly renovated to former glory. Each room is decorated with its original fittings and 1930s Art Deco furnishings including claw-footed baths. The State and Landmark Rooms are meticulously designed; the State Rooms in the new wing are large, with classic French doors and windows, and most come with a balcony but the Landmark Rooms are definitely worth the upgrade.

If you want to avoid the crowds that flock to Angkor Archaeological Park, the opt for a sunrise tour of Angkor Temples through Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor, so you can return to the hotel for breakfast before it gets too hot. At the night markets in Siem Reap, foreigners bargain over handicrafts before taking rest with foot massage. Slide into a booth at Miss Wong, a tiny ruby-red bar behind Pub Street, for late night conversations over dim sum and martinis.

Stay Raffles Grand Hotel D'Angkor has 119 Rooms and Suites, all tastefully appointed with Cambodian object d’art style furnishings. Every room has views of either the pool or the expansive gardens and many have balconies. Rooms are available in two types; Landmark Rooms with Angkorian ambience are complete with high ceilings, wooden floors, historic marble bathrooms. While, the State Rooms in the hotel's new wing provide a comfortable balance of modernity and classical elegance.

Studio Suites are perfect for those who want to feel at home, and Cabana Suites with access through the gardens to the pool are the most romantic. Colonial Suites provide extra living area but for more space, enjoy the Personality Suites which take their names from some of the well-known luminaries associated with the hotel. Spacious poolside two-bedroom villas are also available, located in the inner gardens, and a private balcony overlooking the pool.

ChildCare Children are welcome to stay at Raffles Grand Hotel D'Angkor. The rooms are spacious for cots and there is a children's pool and dining menu. Babysitting service can be arranged with prior notice.

Dine The Restaurant Le Grand showcases Royal Khmer cuisine and Western fine dining in an elegant setting. While Cafe d’Angkor, in a bright air-conditioned room, is a more casual option. It serves a wide variety of Asian and Western dishes from local noodles to gourmet burgers, on the patio overlooking the pool. The nearby Conservatory is good for traditional afternoon tea. The best place to go in the evening is the Elephant Bar where fine wine and cocktails, including the signature Airavata is served.

Relax After our day of exploration, hit the pool, which is extremely large and with wonderful pool boys who even clean your sunglasses. The Frangipani trees around the pool seem to be a Raffles design feature and an evening swim as the day's heat diminishes is as near perfect as it can get. For those interested in pampering yourself, should visit the Raffles Amrita Spa which has 5 private rooms and is said to be one of the best in Cambodia.

Experience The front desk at the Raffles Grand Hotel D'Angkor can arrange a sunrise tour of Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom followed by Bayon and nearby temples. Tour start at sunrise so you can explore the temples before the bus loads of tourists arrive. Return for breakfast at the hotel and then venture out again. Four our trip, we had an air-conditioned car for the trip stocked with plenty of water and cold towels and an extremely knowledgeable English-speaking guide.

Located Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor, set across the royal palace is full of original charm & treasures. This 1932 building with French colonial architecture is located at 1 Vithei Charles de Gaulle, in the heart of Siem Reap. Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor is just 8 km from the famed Angkor Wat.

Getting there There are no direct flights to Cambodia from the UK, but good connections are available from major Asian destinations. You can fly with Thai Airways to Bangkok and from there fly either to Phnom Penh or Siem Reap on a one-hour flight. Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor is 20-minute drive from Siem Reap airport.

When to go Cambodia is hot all year round and the best time to visit is during the dry season from November to April. In May and June the southwestern monsoon brings rain that lasts until October but it rarely rains all day. Although, this is a low season for tourism, it has its own advantages. It is when the Angkor complex is at its most beautiful, the vegetation is lush, the moats for full of water and there are less tourists so you can explore the temples in peace.
