Sala Lodges Siem Reap | Luxury Holidays in Cambodia | AsianGeographicalAdventures.com

The Cambodian heritage style Sala Lodges is a unique concept by two Swiss and French couples, that originated with an idea to preserve local village architecture. Over two years, eleven traditional stilt houses where disassembled and transported to Siem Reap where they were reconstructed and transformed into boutique bungalows. The result, the hotel has an authentic village ambience albeit with modern style.

Each of the eleven Sala Lodges date back to the 1950s and were home either to a farmer, fishmonger, soldier, civil servant or a garrison Colonel. The original architecture and design has remained but interiors have been spruced up and fitted with modern luxuries. At the heart of the hotel is a large swimming pool surrounded with manicured lawns and tropical gardens, perfect for cooling off in the hot-and-steamy Siem Reap.

There are two restaurants at the Sala Lodges serving both Western and tradition Khmer cuisines. Guests have options for fine dining at the Monolith Restaurant or enjoy communal dining at the Long Table where Western cuisines and wines are served al fresco. Bespoke excursions include private tours with expert guides to the Angkor Archaeological Park, traversing the well-worn jungle paths, boat rides on the Tonle Sap Lake to visit floating villages and Prek Toal Bird Sanctuary.

When to go Cambodia is hot all year round and the best time to visit is during the dry season, which runs from November to April. It starts to get wetter in May and the wettest months are September and October. It is still possible to visit during this time as rain usually falls as short sharp storms. November is a fantastic month to visit Cambodia as it is very green after the rainy season and the lakes and rivers are full of water.
