Your trip starts with your arrival in Lhasa, the spiritual heart of Tibet. After being picked up from the airport, enjoy the scenic drive to your hotel, with great views of the Yarlung Tsangpo River and snow mountains. The afternoon is free to acclimate to the high altitude or explore the Barkhor Street and Chongsaikang Markets, the heart of Tibetan culture and commerce. The day ends with a welcome dinner and a traditional Tibetan show, to get you started with the rich Tibetan culture.
Immerse yourself in the culture with a visit to the Potala Palace, the former residence of the Dalai Lama and the symbol of Tibetan Buddhism. After that, experience the spiritual atmosphere of Jokhang Temple, the holiest site in Tibet, where you can participate in the ritual of lighting butter lamps. The afternoon is to Sera Monastery, where you can watch the monk debates, a living tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. End your day with a local Lhasa restaurant dinner and enjoy the authentic Tibetan food.
Today you will visit Samye Temple, the oldest Buddhist monastery in Tibet, situated between the Yarlung Zangbo River and Habort Mountain. Then to Yumbu Lhakhang Palace, a historic site of Tibet’s first king and, time permitting, Trandruk Monastery, famous for its Thangka paintings. Overnight at Tsedang Hotel, with comfortable rooms and a chance to reflect on the day’s spiritual and cultural experiences.
Drive to Gyantse, passing by the beautiful Yamdrok Lake, one of the three holy lakes in Tibet and the lifeblood of the region. Enjoy a walk along the lake and a picnic lunch in the stunning natural surroundings. The day also includes a stop at the Kharola Glacier, with great views and a moment of reflection on nature’s grandeur before arriving in Gyantse in the evening.
Start the day with a visit to Pelkhor Monastery and Kumbum Stupa, to explore the peaceful complex and its unique blend of Tibetan architectural styles and Buddhist sects. Drive to Shigatse, en route visit Shalu Monastery and in the afternoon visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, a central spiritual site for Tibetan Buddhism and the seat of the Panchen Lamas, founded in the 15th century.
Early departure for Tingri, the gateway for mountaineers to Everest. Along the way visit Sakya Temple, a significant site for the Sakya school of Tibetan Buddhism. Arrive in Tingri and check into the New Tingri Everest Hotel, where you will meet climbers from around the world, sharing stories of adventure and anticipation of the challenges ahead on their Himalayan expeditions.
The highlight of your trip, a visit to the base camp of Mt. Everest, today. Arrive at Rongphu, the world’s highest monastery, and hike up the nearby hill for a stunning sunset view of Everest. This is the opportunity to take great photos and appreciate the mountain up close, spend the night surrounded by the Himalayas.
Early morning wake up to see the sunrise over the Himalayas. After breakfast, trek back down to Rongbuk and drive back to Shigatse, with the memories of the stunning views and spiritual presence of the highest peaks.
Back to Lhasa marks the end of your journey through Tibet’s heartland. The drive back gives you time to reflect on the experiences and insights gained during the trip. Check into your hotel in Lhasa, rest of the day at leisure and prepare for your departure.
After breakfast in Lhasa, it’s time to say goodbye to this land of spiritual and natural wonders. Check out from the hotel and transfer to the airport for your onward flight, with the memories of the roof of the world.
