ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

YOUR TRIP DESIGN, PACE & FLEXIBILITY: Discover Japan is a guided small-group journey on a fixed 14-day route Tokyo to Tokyo, designed to give you a balanced mix of cities, heritage and landscapes without rushing. The itinerary uses high-speed rail to keep travel efficient and includes time in Kanazawa, Takayama, Hiroshima & Miyajima, Kyoto, and the Mt Fuji (Kawaguchiko) region, before returning to Tokyo. Because this is a scheduled departure, the day-by-day structure and key visits follow the published plan, with built-in free time in major centres so you can explore independently or opt into suggested activities.

PRIVATE GUIDES, DRIVERS & ON-THE-GROUND SUPPORT: You will travel with an experienced group leader, supported by knowledgeable local guides for key city touring and cultural visits. Group size is capped at 15, which helps keep the experience smooth on trains, in busy districts and at popular sites. Your leader handles day-to-day logistics—rail connections, timings, meeting points and practical arrangements—so the journey runs reliably from region to region. Where local conditions affect sequencing (weather, transport disruption or site access), we adjust the order pragmatically to protect the core experiences while keeping the pace comfortable and the group well looked after.

ACCOMMODATION STANDARDS & MEAL BASIS: The tour is designed at a Casual service level, using well-located, good-quality hotels that support an efficient sightseeing flow. Accommodation is primarily twin/double share, with a single-room option available where possible (single supplement applies). Meal inclusion is as stated in the itinerary: you will usually have breakfast included, with a mix of included group meals and opportunities to dine independently—particularly in Tokyo, Kyoto and other food-rich stops—so you can explore local cuisine at your own pace. Dietary needs are generally manageable in Japan’s main centres; on travel days and in smaller towns, options can be narrower, so it helps to flag requirements early.

FLIGHTS, VISAS, HEALTH & TRAVEL INSURANCE: This is a light-to-moderate activity programme with regular walking, steps, uneven surfaces and some early starts to make the most of rail schedules and sightseeing. Travel is primarily by Japan’s rail network (including a JR Pass element), which is efficient but involves station navigation and luggage handling, so packing sensibly matters. Entry requirements depend on your passport and routing; you remain responsible for meeting visa and entry rules, and we will provide practical guidance on typical requirements and timing. Comprehensive travel insurance is essential, including medical cover and disruption.

COSTING, PAYMENTS, CHANGES & CANCELLATIONS: Group tour pricing reflects fixed-date operations, pre-planned logistics, and allocated accommodation and transport, so availability can tighten on popular departures. Costs are most influenced by seasonality (especially cherry blossom and autumn foliage periods) and demand in cities such as Tokyo and Kyoto. Once booked, changes can be more restricted than on tailor-made trips and may trigger supplier amendment fees or fare differences, particularly where transport and hotel allocations are involved. We confirm deposit, balance deadlines, single supplement terms and any optional activity costs at booking, and provide clear documentation of cancellation terms and key deadlines so you can commit with confidence.
