Tiger Mountain – Mountain Lodge Near Pokhara, Nepal

Tiger Mountain Lodge, Pokhara lies south of the Annapurna Conservation Area on the Kannani Danda ridge. The view of the Annapurna Mountains in the morning, simply took my breath away! The clouds were still settled in the base of the valley, and above the green ridges were great massifs covered with snow, ice and glaciers. But when the morning golden sun kissed the peaks, it was so spectacular that I stood there in awe; a reminder that this indeed is a beautiful world!

The Tiger Mountain Lodge, is a two-story building, with only eleven rooms and its own little garden. The individual lodge-style bungalows are spacious and well positioned with spectacular views of the valley and of the Annapurnas. Every room is incredibly private, well-furnished and elegantly decorated with Tibetan hand-woven carpets and come with a veranda. En-suite bathroom were lovely with beautiful stonework and a large shower.

Meals at the Tiger Mountain Lodge, are served in the main dining room or al fresco in the garden or beside the infinity pool. Both Nepali and Continental food is prepared mostly with ingredients sourced locally or grown organically in the garden of the property. A range of massage treatments are available in the comfort of your own room. In the surrounds are plenty of walking trails to the nearby villages or you take a sightseeing tour of Pokhara.

Stay Tiger Mountain Lodge, Pokhara has just eleven rooms. The main building is an attractive single storey stone building, surrounded by attractive well-kept gardens, with gorgeous stone walkways and plants. It houses the bar and restaurant. The rooms, set out in independent bungalows with a veranda, cool slate and parquet floors, are designed with rich Tibetan rugs, handmade wood furniture, and original artwork. Large windows and glass double doors provide glorious views of the valley and the Annapurnas.

ChildCare Children are welcome to stay at the Tiger Mountain Lodge, Pokhara but there are no specialist facilities available. However, babysitting can be arranged, if requested.

Dine Meals at the Tiger Mountain Lodge are amazing for a place that provides set meals. For breakfast, everything is fresh and homemade, with tables set out to make the most of the views. For lunches, there is Nepali food or you can get a packed lunch if you are out which was also very good.

In the evening, there are pre-dinner drinks with complimentary canapes by the blazing wood fire in the main lounge. This is followed by a delicious three course dinner with vegetables and salad from the garden. In the morning, tea is brought to the room, with a wakeup call to see the sunrise over the Himalayas from our balcony and the beautiful day begins again.

Relax There is a small spa where masseurs offer a range of Ayurvedic and shiatsu therapy. There is also a yoga and meditation sessions are held with views of the high Himalayas. The infinity pool at the Tiger Mountain Lodge is located at one end of the resort and there can't be many places where one could swim in view of a couple of eight-thousanders. I understand the pool is also popular with local wildlife, particularly leopards, who occasionally visit for its therapeutic effects and are known to utilise the sun loungers.

Experience There is plenty to do here. The Tiger Mountain Lodge provides some excellent activities including long, nature and bird watching walks in the surrounds. Closer home, don't miss the tiny but gorgeous sunbird that lives in the red hibiscus by the terrace. For the adventurous, paragliding and micro-light flights against Annapurna’s backdrop are thrilling options. Trips can easily be arranged into Pokhara for shopping (try the Lakeside area).

Location Tiger Mountain Lodge is a boutique property located on hilltop above the Pokhara valley. It offers spectacular panoramic mountain views of Machhapuchhare, and three of the world's 8,000m Himalayan peaks, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manaslu, in western Nepal. Altitude: 1,056 metres.

Getting There Kathmandu has an international airport from where there are regular 1-hour flights to Pokhara. Try to sit on the right-hand side of the plane for views of the Annapurna Range. Alternatively, it's a 4-hour drive to Pokhara. Avoid travelling during festivals.

When to go Nepal like the rest of the Gangetic plains has four seasons. Autumn and spring are the two most favourable seasons for visiting Nepal. The Spring (March to May) is good for treks when forests are full of rhododendrons in bloom. The heat wave runs through May until monsoon arrives in mid-June and stays until August. But in September, when the rains stop, the weather is balmy, the air is crip and the sky is clear; it is the perfect time to visit Nepal.
