Dwarika's Resort, Dhulikhel

Dwarika’s Resort Dhulikhel is a luxury mountain retreat, set on a hillside village of Dhulikhel, about an hour's drive, east from Kathmandu in Nepal. The concept here is to maintain harmony between body, mind, spirit and earth, in order to enjoy a peaceful, healthy and balanced life. The resort has been built using natural materials; stone, wood, earth, and its interior spaces designed with natural fibres and colours, in the hope that guests staying here would enjoy a greater sense of peace.

Perched at an altitude of 1,700 metres in the village of Dhulikhel, Dwarikas Resort has 39 suites in nine, four-bedroom cottages. Built in traditional Newari and Gurung style, it spreads over 20 acres of pine, rhododendron and cherry blossom trees. Three well-placed restaurants offer a choice of Himalayan, vegetarian Japanese, and Zen Buddhist cuisine. There is also a helipad for guests who may like to watch the sunrise with a glass of Champagne at the Everest base camp.

Guests come to stay at Dwarika’s Resort in Dhulikhel, to enjoy panoramic views of the high Himalayas. For relaxation, there are meditation and yoga halls, chakra sound chambers and a maze of 84 Shiva Linga carvings. The most extraordinary, is the Himalayan salt therapy room with translucent walls of pure rock salt that admits daylight from outside – filtered, softened and imbued with a lovely pale-pinkish glow. Alternatively, just relax in the infinity pool with majestic views.

Stay The Dwarika’s Resort Dhulikhel has just 39 spacious suites. Each suite offers private indoor and outdoor living and sleeping spaces with spectacular views of the Himalayas. The décor is traditional in style: terracota tiled roofs, open beamed ceilings, mud plastered walls and wooden floors. It’s a concept for integrating with Nature but without compromising on comfort. Plush beds are draped in fine linen, there is air conditioning and ensuite bathrooms come with shower and bathtubs.

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at Dwarikas Resort Dhulikhel but there no specific facilities available for children. However, children will enjoy the open surroundings and outdoor activities.

Dine Guests at the Dwarikas Resort Dhulikhel, have a choice of three restaurants, serving a variety of traditional and Western cuisines. Nature's Flavours, whose name is more than indicative of the surrounding Nature offers international cuisine. Mako’s Zen serves vegetarian Japanese cuisine, that is light on flavourings and the striking wood and glass-panelled Poolside Restaurant offers a range of flavours from Nepal. All meals are prepared with ingredients sourced from their organic farm.

Relax Facilities at the Dwarikas Resort in Dhulikhel include an infinity swimming pool, a vedic library, and a hilltop lounge that feels like it’s suspended in space. For ultimate relaxation, there is Pancha Kosha Himalyan Spa set in the lush woodland, offering treatments, meditation and yoga classes. Wellbeing activities include a meditation maze, chakra sound chambers and energy giving Navagraha (planets) Vana gardens. Alternatively, take in the minerals of Himalayan rock salt at the salt-house.

Experience Dhulikhel is one of the popular places near Kathmandu, from which to observe the high Himalaya and Dwarikas Resort, set on a 1700-metre hillside in Dhulikhel, offers some of the best views. Activities on offer include nature walks in the surrounding areas and the legendary Namobuddha Monastery. Cultural walks include visiting Panauti, a traditional Newari village working farm near Darimbot, offering an insight into organic production and the abundant local vegetation.

Location Located on a hill above Djulihkel city, Dwarika's Resort offers panoramic views of the mountains in a peaceful location just a short drive from Kathmandu.

Getting there Fly to Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport, followed by a 45-minute drive to the Lodge.

When to go Nepal has a Monsoonal climate with four main seasons. Autumn and Spring are the two most favourable seasons for visiting Nepal. Autumn (September to early December) brings in clear weather with sunny days and warm nights. Spring (March to May) is clear and bright, with occasional rain showers. From June to September is the monsoon season. During this time the skies can be overcast and so the Himalayas are rarely visible from Kathmandu or Dhulikhel. Due to the hot weather and daily rainfall, this can be an uncomfortable time to visit.
