Cameron Highlands Resort: Luxury Stay in Malaysia

Cameron Highlands Resort is a boutique hideaway, with a forested mountainscape. Set amidst tea plantations and rolling hills of Cameron Highlands, at 1,500m, it is a long extension of an existing 1930s cottage. Promising splendour, romance and nostalgia, the interiors hark back to its grand colonial heritage with tall French doors, timber-beamed ceilings and plantation shutters combined with the colours and textures of Jim Thompson’s famed Asian silks.

Strategically located between 2 small towns, Tanah Rata and Berinchang, at Cameron Highlands Resort you'd easily feel like being in an English countryside home as the cool weather greatly instils that scenario. Endearingly known as the 'little piece of England in Asia', the cool climate on the picturesque plateau and its hilly greenery are tailor-made for rounds of golf, nature walks and rejuvenating life.

The Cameron Highlands Resort is rustically gorgeous and beautifully set opposite a golf course with hills in the background. Just sitting on the balcony sipping a cuppa of the local tea (one of the best in the world) is invigorating. The public areas at the hotel are delightful with an elegant colonial era decor. A fine piano sits in the corner of the lobby – referred to as the Jim Thompson tea room as they serve afternoon tea there.

Dine Dining at the Cameron Highlands Resort is at the semi-alfresco Gonbei, a great Asian restaurant that serves a very substantial steamboat. Breakfast is a buffet with a range of fresh baked breads. Indulge in the age-old ritual of English Afternoon Tea with oven-fresh pastries and homemade scones, at Jim Thompson Tea Room. The British elegance of comfort and decadence is evident at the Highlands Bar; snooker table and an extensive selection of whiskies, cocktails and other beverages.

Relax The Spa Village at the Cameron Highlands Resort, is a branded spa outlet. It offers a range of traditional spa treatments in beautiful, tranquil yet luxurious surroundings. Every treatment is preceded by tea, a soak and scrub in a hot tea bath and a little nap with a warm buckwheat pouch applied to your back and tummy. Post treatment, you are invited to lounge in their pavilion while being served tea and oat cookies. Amazingly restful!

Experience The Cameron Highlands Resort organizes complimentary guided nature walks and we participated in one called the Jim Thompson Trail that is highly recommended. It’s a one and half hour trail along what is said to be the last trail that the legendary Jim Thompson took before he mysteriously vanished. It’s not a long trek but you will need decent walking shoes, as it is steep and narrow in some parts and slippery, especially if there has been rain.

Location Cameron Highlands Resort is located in the state of Pahang, north of Kuala Lumpur on the east side of the border between the states of Perak and Pahang in Malaysia. Set in a forested mountainscape, Cameron Highlands resort promises splendour, romance & nostalgia.

Getting There Cameron Highlands Resort is located 200km north of Kuala Lumpur and can be reached by a 3-hour and 30-minute drive. The resort is about 30 mins drive from the main town. The hotel offers a free shuttle bus departing at 11am with collection at 3pm. There is not a great deal to do in the town so a good walk around is recommended.

When to go Cameron Highlands are good to visit all year round. The highlands enjoy cooler temperatures than the rest of Malaysia. Light rain showers are common in the afternoon.
