The Danna, Langkawi, Malaysia - Asian Geographical Adventures

The Majestic Malacca is located on the banks of the Malacca River, which in the past teemed with Chinese junks and spice-laden vessels from all over the world. Today, the Majestic Malacca provides a glimpse into the splendid saga of an extraordinary empire. Steeped in a rich tapestry of multicultural influences reflected in its heritage architecture, diverse lifestyles and eclectic cuisine, this classic hotel is an integral part of Malacca’s colourful history.

At the heart of the Majestic Malacca is a restored 1920s mansion of a tycoon. In the early 1950s and 60s, the clientele comprised mainly of British planters and it even played host to Malaysia's first prime minister. Sparing no expense, the historic building is fully restored and sympathetically extended to house 54 air-conditioned rooms and suites as well as an award-winning spa, a reflection of that era, melding luxury, modernity and tradition.

The rooms and suites at the Majestic Malacca are spacious, with floor-to-ceiling windows and views over the Malacca River. All come with a four-poster bed, plush silk fabrics, polished ebony floors, and a retro black-and-white tiled bathroom with a claw-foot tub. The restaurant overlooking the river offers Nyonya cuisine in a casual atmosphere. The outstanding five-room spa provides therapies based on Baba-Nyonyam techniques. And, there’s a health club and an outdoor pool.

Dine Dining at the Majestic Malacca is at The Cuisine restaurant that serves an eclectic menu influenced by its rich multi-cultural flavours contributed by the Nyonya, Portuguese, Malay, Chinese and Indian cultures. The Mansion is the main restaurant for breakfast and dinner. The Lounge, presents an inviting space for midday refreshments or an afternoon tea. While the bar, designed to resemble an old-fashioned European saloon offers an extensive range of whiskies, cocktails and refreshments.

Relax Spa Village at the Majestic Malacca is the world's only spa to base its therapies on the healing heritage of the Peranakan culture - a unique combination of Chinese and Malay influences. Spread across two levels, the traditional Peranakan Chinese day beds are bathed in muted sunlight from floor to ceiling windows in the relaxation lounge while private treatment rooms exude refined luxury through fine porcelain wall tiles, ornate silverware and intricate traditional wood carving.

Experience The Majestic Malacca hotel provides complimentary guided walks around prominent historical landmarks of this 600-year-old coastal port. Experience the legacy of the Malay Sultanate, Chinese, Indian, Portuguese, Dutch and British, evident in Malacca's own charm, picturesque buildings, multi-racial population and narrow streets. Also take the interesting 45-minute cruise up the historic Malacca River, passing narrow old shop houses and river warehouses. The foodies are suggested to delve into the intricacies of authentic Peranakan cuisine with a cooking class at the hotel.

Location The Majestic Malacca is a stunning 1920’s colonial mansion, located on the banks of the Malacca River in Malacca.

Getting there The best way to get to Malacca from Kuala Lumpur airport is by private road transfer that takes about 4 hours followed by a 15-minute shared speedboat ride from Marina Island Pangkor. You can take a taxi or chose to limousine provided by the Resort, which is more expensive but super comfortable with good leg room and air-con. The service includes pick-up and drop-off from your hotel in Kaula Lumpur.

When to go Malaysia has a hot and humid climate year-round, interspersed with tropical rain showers. There is a clear east-west split in the weather. The wet season on the east coast is between November & February, which is when the west coast experiences sunny, dry weather. Conversely, the wettest months on the west coast are April to October, which are the driest months on the east coast. The capital, Kuala Lumpur has less rainfall during June to August.
