The Lakehouse, Cameron Highlands, Malaysia - Asian Geographical Adventures

The first impressions of the Lakehouse Resort are of a typical English Tudor country manor house that is beautifully decorated with artefacts. The hotel is full of common spaces like a library and lounges that gives a feeling of staying in a home of a rich English nobleman. The cosy living rooms are perfect for spending quality bonding time and the outside facing terraces for relaxing or feeding on cool mountain air. There is a fireplace in one of the living rooms and I am enticed to use on a chilly night.

Accommodation in the Lakehouse Hotel includes just 19 Tudor style rooms. These are furnished with antique furnishings nicely spread out throughout the room. In the privacy and comfort of the Resident House, the grand Foster Suite affords a traditional old English charm with a log fireplace, intimate dining area and lavish en suite bathroom complete with a sunken bath. The decor of the rooms and suites at the Lakehouse hotel – with open spaces for relaxation – provide a quite delightful experience.

The Lakehouse Restaurant offers English cuisine from the a la carte menu, complemented by an impressive collection of the finest wines available in the Highlands. Enjoy traditional English afternoon tea on the sunny Lakeview Terrace. Relax on comfortable chairs during the day, play badminton on the terrace and take short leisurely walks in the surrounds, listening to old stories about the place. Also visit local farms, rose gardens and tea plantations.

Dine Breakfast at the Lakehouse Resort is served at The Restaurant; a semi-Continental buffet. Enjoy lunch or the afternoon high-tea at The Lakeview Terrace, and bask in the afternoon sun. Alternatively pick a book from the Reading Lounge and relax by the log fireplace. It’s nice to spend an evening in the Highlander Lounge area where there is a fire place and a small but well stocked bar. Dinner has both a set menu and a la carte. Try the steamboat dinner.

Experience The Lakehouse Resort organises complimentary guided jungle trekking. Although the trek is only about an hour, it does have steep sections and good walking boots are recommended. The Cameron Highlands is a mystic place steeped in natural beauty with something for everyone. Famed for its scenic view and outdoor activities, the hotel can arrange tour packages to visit Mossy Forest, Farmlands or sightseeing tour.

One More Thing The ‘Cameron Highlands’ was named after Sir William Cameron who in 1885 discovered a number of plateaus in the area. But it was Colonel Stanley J. Foster who decided to live on one its plateaus and have his own Bed & Breakfast, much enjoyed in his own country – especially in the Lake District and Cotswold. Today, The Lakehouse still retains its colonial charm, a jewel high atop the Cameron Highlands, towering above the majestic and historic area.

Location The Lakehouse is an exquisite English Tudor styled country manor hotel atop the Cameron Highlands.

Getting There Cameron Highlands Resort is located 200km north of Kuala Lumpur and can be reached by a 3-hour and 30-minute drive. The Lakehouse resort is about 30 mins drive from the main town. The hotel offers a free shuttle bus departing at 11am with collection at 3pm. There is not a great deal to do in the town so a good walk around is recommended.

When to go Cameron Highlands are good to visit all year round. The highlands enjoy cooler temperatures than the rest of Malaysia. Light rain showers are common in the afternoon.
