COMO Uma Bhutan Punakha

COMO Uma Punakha is a beautiful resort, perched on a hillside overlooking the Mo Chu River. The hotel overlooks the Punakha Valley with lush-green paddy fields and rolling forested mountains. This low-lying valley serves as an interesting destination for both summer and winter touring. In this beautiful and interesting destination, Uma Punakha offers just 11 rooms, all spread out along a ridge, taking in the valleys fresh air and offering jaw-dropping views.

The COMO Uma Punakha luxury lodge has just eleven light and airy rooms. There are eight Valley View rooms, some with private terraces and breathtaking views. Those seeking more space and privacy can opt for the resort’s two COMO villas, set away from the main building. There is a two-bedroom COMO Villa, ideal for families and a One-Bedroom Villa, perfect for couples. Both have privacy and views of the forest, mountains and the surrounding valley.

Punakha, once the capital of Bhutan, is now an important holiday destination for foreign travellers. It has the country’s most impressive Dzong and the surrounding valleys offer many treks to nearby monasteries and villages. There are opportunities for whitewater rafting, cycling and meeting locals at weekend markets. Archery is common game here and you fill find villagers invite you to a free practice. But more importantly, what you will find here in abundance is peace and tranquillity.

Stay COMO Uma Punakha has just 11 rooms and Villas. The Valley View Rooms have an outdoor terrace and some on second floor have large windows. There are two elegant standalone COMO Villas, both located away from the main building, with an expansive terrace. These have one bedroom or two-bedrooms with living and dining room, a large outdoor terrace and a private garden. All rooms have air conditioning, satellite TV, deep bathtub and tea/coffee making facilities.

ChildCare Children are welcome to stay at COMO Uma Punakha, but there are no specific facilities available. The resort has two villas which have two-bedrooms that are ideal for families. Although some of the trekking may only be suitable for older children, there is much to do in the surrounds.

Dine Bukhari is the main restaurant at COMO Uma Punakha, named after the traditional Bhutanese fireplace. Menus are based on seasonal, local produce sourced by chef Tshering Lhaden, who delivers both Bhutanese and international dishes with strong flavours and finesse. Private dining can also be arranged.

Relax COMO Shambhala Retreat at the Uma Punakha, offers a range of holistic, Asian-inspired treatments including signature massages, facials and body therapies. Located in woodland glade, it has two treatment rooms: a double for couples and a single room featuring a traditional Bhutanese hot stone bath.

Experience In the Punakha town is the Punakha Dzong. Built in 1637, it was the seat of government when Punakha was the capital of Bhutan and the first king of Bhutan, Ugyen Wangchuck, was crowned here. There are loads of thing to do around COMO Uma Punakha, but we recommend the Chhime Lkahkang. Every year hundreds of people make pilgrimage to this ancient monastery, to get blessed by a symbolic phallus which represents the sign of fertility.

Location Uma Punakha is located along the Mo Chu River from Punakha, overlooking the valley.

Getting There Flights to Bhutan are either from Bangkok or New Delhi. Bangkok is the best place to connect if you are coming from North America, Australia or Asia. Delhi is the best place to connect if you are coming from Europe, Middle East or UK. Flights from Delhi fly via Kathmandu. We will arrange your flight tickets and visa clearance details. Punakha is located about 3.5 hours from Thimphu and 4-5 hours from Paro where Bhutan's international airport is located.

When to go Winter in Bhutan lasts from November to March. The spring months of March, April and May, are best for treks, flora and the many birds of Bhutan. The Monsoon occurs between June and August. The two-month window between October and November are arguably the best months with clear skies and chilly nights. It is also a good time for trekking into the Himalayas, sitting around a camp fire and seeing the high Himalayas in the morning and evening golden light.
