Songtsam Tacheng – Serene Tibetan-Style Lodge in Yunnan

The Songtsam Tacheng is a boutique lodge, set in Hada village, a small village in Northwestern Yunnan. Buffeted gently from all sides by fertile, low mountain valleys, Tacheng is home to Tibetan, Naxi and Lisu ethnic minorities. The lodge is part of the collection of lodges that provide a circuitry tour of Yunnan, each offering a unique experience of the region, allowing travellers to really capture the magic of the land.

Small and intimate, Songtsam Tacheng features just nine spacious guestrooms. All are elegantly decorated in modern style and furnished with hand crafted furniture and Tibetan artefacts. Each are light and airy, and come with a shared balcony, perfect for morning tea, when mist often envelops the valley. There is a lovely dining rooms with large picture windows screened by twisting pines, that serves a fusion of Tibetan and Western cuisines prepared with ingredients from their own garden.

Nestled in a mountain valley and surrounded with stunning natural scenery, Songtsam Tacheng lodge, offers a perfect destination for trekking. The region is home to Tibetan, Naxi and Lisu ethnic minority communities, each of which have an extremely hospitable and unique culture. The area is also rich in vegetation and wildlife and home to the Golden Monkeys. Facilities at the lodge include a beautiful outdoor swimming pool, a restaurant and a bar offering a range of beverages. 
 


Stay Songtsam Tacheng features just 9 spacious yet cosy rooms. Each room’s decor captures the very essence of local art, blending sturdy Chinese antiques and Chinese art with modern comforts. Expect locally handcrafted furniture, oak wall panelling and plush king size beds on polished timber floors spread out with Tibetan rugs. Rooms have sitting areas beside large windows with views awash with fertile rice paddies and vineyards and modern ensuite bathrooms have quality toiletries.

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at the Songtsam Tacheng lodge but there are no specific facilities available for children. 

Dine The in-house restaurant at the Songtsam Tacheng serves traditional Tibetan cuisine with some Western favourites prepared with locally sourced ingredients. The menu may include rainbow trout, from the nearby rivers, ham from the wild boar that are abundant in the area, greens sautéed in garlic, aromatic mushrooms and strips of yak. The lodge provides 3 meals a day, as well as soft drink, tea and coffee. Experience locally crafted beer, founded by a Swiss-based Tibetan émigré.

Relax Facilities at the Songtsam Tacheng include a beautiful outdoor pool overlooking fields of wheat and barley and green mountains in the distance. With such a stunning backdrop, there is plenty to keep you enthralled during your stay here. Guests can also pick their own fresh produce in the organic vegetable garden.

Experience Tacheng is also home to the endangered Yunnan Golden Monkeys, which make it an endearing wildlife environment, popular for family excursions and romantic getaways. Songtsam Tacheng can arrange private guided hikes through the Baima Nature Reserve to see the Golden Monkeys. Guests can also visit beautiful Tibetan, Naxi and Lisu villages and experience their local culture and see bee hives, which produce some of the most celebrated wild honey in China.

Location Located in the heart of the mountain valley, Tacheng is perhaps the most fertile terrain around, ensuring an abundance of wildlife and vegetation to absorb your senses.

Getting there Fly into Beijing and take a domestic flight to Shangri-La Airport. The airport is a 3-hour transfer from Songtsam Tacheng. Lijiang Airport is a 4-hour transfer from the lodge.

When to go The best travel period to Ringha is April to October, during the summer months. Winter is cold. here is also a big temperature difference between day and night. If you want to experience the most beautiful scenery, April and May is the best time for you to arrive.
